A DHD reader who received the survey from Variety being conducted by Frank G Magid Associates "to better understand how readers feel about the WGA strike" tells me "your site features prominently in the questions". Huh? Here's one question:
How have you been following strike coverage? Please select all that apply.

SOMEBODY is running scared. I’m a subscriber and I haven’t canceled yet, only because I’m lazy. But I will.
You’re the last one? C’mon. Like anyone cares about those other ones.
Yeah, I answered that survey and the “Deadline Hollywood Daily” Box was the ONLY one I checked.
I find it interesting that the major media coverage on this strike is decidedly slanted towards the AMPTP side but opinion surveys indicate the majority of Americans side with the writers despite all of this. That tells me a) Americans might be learning not to believe everything big media tells them and b) big media is starting to lose touch with its consumers. I think it also reflects America’s respect and admiration for the writers of their favorite movies and TV shows — perhaps the AMPTP is underestimating people’s loyalty to the creative minds behind their entertainment?
I took that survey as well. No where in the survey did they bother to ask what we thought of THEIR coverage. Was it balanced? Was it fair? None of the above. Long live DHD!
Here’s the best way to understand how “readers” feel about the strike: READ NIKKI FINKE!
Nikki, maybe you should run your own survey, see how it matches against the results of Magid Associates. Maybe it’ll help them out and give us all a big laugh… Maybe we can have a “burn your Variety” party on the beach at some point…
Nikki,
I just like reading your blog more than the trades because you actually use words that people use in real life.
Or, in other words, you are a great “scribe” and a great “helmer”. You are a really good “topper” for this site. Man, I feel really smart when I use words like these to describe everyday happenings in the entertainment industry. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go come up with some more ways to sound “different”. I’m sure I have a thesaurus around here somewhere.
Seriously though, I wish they would just give me the meat and potatoes. I’m just going to eat it and shit it out later anyway.
Sincerely,
A Scribe Helmer who is skedded for unemployment
