The CBS News writers' strike authorization vote will take place tomorrow, November 15th and Friday, November 16th. The WGA East will announce the results on Monday, November 19th. The WGA-CBS members have been working under an expired contract since April 2, 2005, and without a pay raise since April 2004. The contract covers more than 500 newswriters, editors, desk assistants, production assistants, graphic artists, promotion writers and researchers in New York, Washington DC, Chicago, and Los Angeles working in television and radio on the national and local levels. Today, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer visited the newsrooms of CBS Network Television, WCBS-TV (Channel 2), local News radio 880-AM, and Network Graphics to "lend his personal support" to the newsroom writers, according to WGAE.

Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
In the good old days reporters went out and then wrote a story themselves about real topics. Now it’s just a few moments of hype and Hollywood gossip about some ding bat named “Brittany”..or who got drunk showing up on “The Evening News”…Who needs writers for that?
It’s a shame with all we have found out,( not from Media) that media still assumes it is un-patriotic to question this administration when all we should have is questions about not “if”, but “When is the impeachment”..I wish the News media would catch up and do their job themselves. They don’t need writers to report what is going on, just some guts.
Ljlu, before you get all bent out of shape over this strike, you have to know that TV News reporters do their jobs and do report things whatever they may be. They just need writers to create scripts, shots, and news reports including the CBS Evening News. The CBS Evening News itself requires a lot of writing. This includes the blocking of individual segments, deciding which stories to run, and writing Katie’s script which could include possible questions for any guest she might have. On the local level it includes adding segments for weather and sports. Looking at the entire TV news industry, they deserve a raise even though it may be a bit above cost of living. One thing though, they will not get Daily show payment though it is put together in the very same way, the focus is just different. Hopefully the News writers will go on strike, if that will force an end to the overall writers strike.
Seems to me that writers are shooting themselves in the foot by bringing in Scott Stringer, one of NYC’s worst hack politicians. He’s seen as even worse than his predecessor, C. Virginia Fields, who was a laughing stock. It would be like getting a President worse than George Bush (well with Giuliani that might happen). ut you get the idea. Stringer is pandering because he wants to run for NYC Public Advocate. Otherwise he’s done nothing good as Borough President.
