This is the fourth of the Writers Guild Of America member-conceived Internet videos for Project "Speechless" featuring A-list Screen Actors Guild talent. They are being hosted exclusively by DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com over Thanksgiving Weekend. For the first time in the TV and movie industry, high-profile SAG actors are together taking their talents directly and exclusively to the Internet, the very medium which is at the center of the current WGA labor strike against the Alliance Of Motion Picture & Television Producers. The project, conceived by director/writer George Hickenlooper and writer Alan Sereboff, will be releasing three videos here in the morning, afternoon and evening throughout this weekend. See them all!

[In the interest of fairness and objectivity, I would be pleased to also debut a similar campaign conceived by members of AMPTP. But, as a journalist with a journalism outlet, I couldn't pass up any opportunity to have an exclusive.]
at least no one speaks in this one.
but that goes to figure, jeff garlin seems like a smart guy and probably understood that speechless means no words?
Being a computer tech support person in my day job, that made me laugh. I’ve had to crawl under the desk of a few media CEO’s to get at their printers. (their REAL printers)
As someone who has not seen the previous episodes, I was hoping for Garlin to let out a trademark “FUUUUUUUUCK!”
I support the WGA 100%, but these ads don’t impress me. They’re not the least bit informative- Plus they fail to stress the seriousness of the situation the writers are in.
If they want to have A-listers do these kinds of ads, they should at least use people that appeal to the mass audience. I’m not saying Sean Penn doesn’t have his audience, but he is somewhat known for protesting issues, which somewhat lessens the strength of his ad.
But if they took someone like Johnny Depp, who has already had films canceled because of this strike, or Denzel Washington, beloved by just about all…and showed them being forced away from public eye…all because the studios are refusing to compromise at all on this issue. I think more support would be readily available for WGA’s cause.
sorry, i have to agree with LL.
these ads are the worst kind of advertising for the WGA’s cause. they’re uninspired and uninspiring. it would have been so much more powerful to let these talented actors talk about a favorite script, a favorite role, the power of the written word…
this ’speechless’ campaign would be more aptly titled ‘flaccid’.
Yeah, I have to agree as well. These videos would be better if they actually spoke out and said something. Don’t get me wrong; they are well-done…but I don’t think the power of celebrity alone affects the AMPTP that much. The power of celebrities actually spelling it out and saying that they support the writers and why, maybe.
I think the ads are doing their job — stirring up talk, bringing attention to the fight. At least these folks are doing something. I always get irritated by the folks who can find fault with anything, but never get off their ass and help the cause.
It’s easy to criticize others. You think these are ineffective? Where’s your contribution? Let me know when you finish it…I’d love to critique it.
