Inbetween sneezing and sniffling and gulping Theraflu, I’ve been told that the WGA-mogul negotiations get a kick-start on Friday when Peter Chernin returns from London and rejoins the talks in person. He’s also cancelled his Super Bowl tickets for Sunday in order to stay in town. I can’t post a lot today because I’m flu-ish. Stay tuned.

Hope what you have to post includes a lot of comments.
Kidding, of course. Thanks so much, Nikki. Hope you’re feeling better and that this kick start gets us somewhere fast.
I hope these negotiations are for real, and not just a ploy by the AMPTP to get a waiver for the Oscars.
I also hope you feel better and quick Nikki. You do some of the best work in understanding Hollywood.
Get better soon.
And thank you so much for the honest and insightful postings!
Get better soon. Hasn’t been the same without you!
I had that flu earlier this month. It was a killer. Just drink a lot of fruids. Hope you get better soon.
It blows my mind that this guy has the time to go to London, while the rest of us wonder how we are going to pay rent this month because this strike has cost us our job.
They should be stuck in a room 5 days a week, hammering out a deal. Total BS.
GET IT DONE!
Now that is the nicest thing I’ve read about Peter Chernin since the strike started. Let’s hope the rest of the moguls catch on and do the same.
I want my people of The Unit back to work!
SD, yeah, god forbid that the President and COO of the biggest media/news company in the world fly to London to conduct scheduled business…
Wow Chernin finally deigned to come back from London (and God only knows what he did there for a *week* and not simply the promised weekend his sycophants told Nikki which she of course dutifully posted about earlier) plus he’s making the supreme personal sacrifice of not going to go to the Superbowl?
Color me thoroughly underwhelmed.
You want to see impressive action, come to DC where a bunch of us (writers, fans, viewers and Congresspeople) are taking real steps to settle this nonsense now and forever.
I’m giving up my Sunday afternoon to talk with the DC area WGA writers and a bunch of other people so that more things like this happen:
http://unitedhollywood.blogspot.com/2008/02/congressional-committee-urges-ceos-to.html
I firmly stand by my recommendation that the shareholders of News Corp help Chernin the wussy get a new ‘day job’ if he’s not up to the task of making a fair and reasonable deal with the writers (and later with the actors).
And I also recommend that those shareholders consider hiring a lawyer experienced in something called shareholder derivative actions.
Game on Chernin…I can’t wait to see your backside and those of the other moguls parked in a chair in front of a Congressional committee talking about real money.
