I’ve just been told that Jeff Leeds, the Los Angeles-based music industry reporter who was poached by The New York Times from the Los Angeles Times back in 2004,
is now a victim of the Gray Lady’s ongoing round of layoffs. I feel badly for him because he’s always had a good handle on his beat. He also writes regularly and breaks news. “It came as a surprise. H was upset to be cut,” an insider tells me. “But it’s an odd beat to cut because it’s not like there’s overlap. It says a lot about how the paper views the music biz.”
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

The NYT should cut its op-ed staff.
It’s become an embarrassment and unreadable.
Dowd, Krugman, Kristol are all idiots, but the music biz doesn’t need a dedicated reporter at the paper of record. That’s what the lame LAT is for.
fuck the nyt
C’mon people!! Who’s with me in standing up for the always classy and without rival NYT?
*crickets chirping*
Actually, I knew that. No, I really did. All it takes is to read just one article to know that this waste of ink, paper and the trees that made said paper is finally relegated to the unimportant and irrelevant stature it so richly deserves.
Speaking of rich, you forgot to mention the greasy sleazebag Frank Rich from you list of ne’er do well’s there, “T”…
Cheers!!
Um, the New York Times is a great newspaper. No other daily can touch it. Without it, all Sunday would mean is pro football and church. Ugh.
Sorry to lose Jeff Leeds, but he’s a good writer. I’m sure he’ll be fine.
