I’m told FBC has picked up Joss Whedon’s new Dollhouse (20th Century Fox TV) for mid-season. Given his rabid Whedonesques, who don’t take rejection well, I don’t see how the network could have said no this time around.

So basically, over the course of the 08/09 season, Fox are going to debuting…
Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Fringes.
Dollhouse.
Virtuality.
…yeah. I can’t shake the feeling that the only one that’s going to be left standing next year is The Sarah Connor Chronicles with the rest going the way of flesh after six episodes or so.
But, the devious side of me is looking forward to the fans of Abrams’ new show cutting off their fringes and sending them to Fox HQ in envelopes in a bid to get it picked up for a second series.
They will not take “midseason pickup” well, methinks. They all expect Fox to run the show for three or four episodes – out of order – and then cancel the show with the remaining episodes unaired.
Well yea, but Mid season? That’s a wait, what did FBC put in instead?
Actually, I think TSCC will be toast unless the quality improves greatly. It only did well this year because it had a solid lead-in and no competition.
I would have greatly preferred a fall debut for “Dollhouse” instead of midseason and, to me, this doesn’t exactly say that they are as behind the series as they have stated in the past press blurbs.
ive been hearing that they will heavily promote Fringe for the fall, while they will heavily promote Dollhouse for the winter. Apparently, Dollhouse will be put as either a lead-in or led-out for 24/American Idol. This is good news, and shows Fox’s faith in the series because they are putting it in with one of its three major hits (house, 24, american idol). If i had to choose between heavy promotion and a great timeslot midseason, and shared (but lets be honest: lesser) promotion with Fringe in the fall, in a so-so timeslot, i would definetly choose midseason. Many midseason shows have gone on to become huge hits ( grey’s anatomy) and i since as of now, everybody who has seen Dollhouse’s pilot script has given it stellar, and i mean stellar reviews (televisionary, watch with kristin etc.) i think that we should expect great things from Joss Whedon’s newest show
We Joss Whedon fans are inured to the trauma by now. As long as this ends with 12 great episodes on DVD, we’ll probably be happy.
Why do I get the feeling this will go the way of “Firefly”?
Me too, how are they going to present Dollhouse midseason? If I was Joss I would pack my bags. This signals doom for Dollhouse.
Dollhouse is ASSURED a seven episode pickup.
They are only making like 7 episodes this season anyways, so mid-season make sense, they wont have enough content to air for a full season. Thats been long known by whedoneverse fans.
well, a little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a midseason show…and it did pretty okay in the end… =)
They ordered 7 episodes but that doesn’t mean they were never going to/haven’t ordered more, I wouldn’t say that was anything to do with being midseason.
On any other network, I’d say being held as a mid-season replacement is a bad sign, but remember that Fox’s fall season tends to be bad while they pretty much own the midseason with American Idol. This is probably a good sign. It’s JJ Abrams with Fringe who should be worried.
Here’s hoping Dollhouse tanks and Whedon can never again launch a crappy show.
7-episode order for Dollhouse? Oy, I could have *sworn* it was 13. Oh well. A 7-episode Winter order from FOX is what several of us call “pre-canceled” over on Usenet’s rec.arts.tv newsgroup. Doesn’t matter what the quality is, good (New Amsterdam) or bad (Jezebel James), if FOX gives it 7 episodes or less, there’s no point in watching it whatsoever.
Even when it’s Joss.

Joss Whedon? I wonder if he’ll put his freaky circus Sex Stuff in it.
