I’ve just been given this statement from New York members of the SAG Board:
The New York members of the Screen Actors Guild Board of Directors unanimously disavow the decision of SAG’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to mount a campaign to persuade AFTRA/SAG dual-card holders to vote “no” on the AFTRA Primetime TV Contract.
This unprecedented action should only have been considered by the full National Board of Directors, which is charged with the responsibility of setting policy for the Guild. We are amazed that the National Executive Director and the President chose, instead, to bring this proposal to the much smaller and less representative NEC, over the objections of nearly half of the NEC members present. There was absolutely no reason that a full Board meeting could not have been called.
More importantly, the NY Board opposes this unconscionable attempt to interfere with the internal business of a sister union because it has no strategic value for our negotiations, because it will waste $150,000 of the members’ dues money, because it may result in costly legal battles for the Guild and because it will forever tarnish our image as a union. We feel strongly that AFTRA members have the right to decide for themselves whether this contract is acceptable, without interference from any outside organization, and we believe it is imperative that SAG leadership focus on our on-going negotiations with the AMPTP and not divert any more time, energy or dues money to attacking a union upon which 45,000 of its own members depend.

At my last count, there were a total of 37 collective bargaining groups negotiating separately with the AMPTP under the label of two labor unions, WGA and SAG
WGA West, WGA-East-Screwed by WGA West, Working-Class WGA Thrown-to-the-Curb Between the Two, WGA Worldwide Pants, WGA Non-Blacklisted Fi-Core, WGA Blacklisted Fi-Core, SAG Conspicously-Absent-Hollywood-Elite, Membership-First SAG, Waiting-Tables-and-Kinkos SAG, AFTRA-Only Cardholders, Dual SAG-AFTRA CardHolders, AFTRA-Beaten-Up-by-Membership-First-SAG, SAG-Screwed-By-Lousy-Deal-AFTRA, and now SAG-LA and SAG-NY because of SAG-Membership-First beating up on AFTRA-SAG New Yorkers.
Did I miss anyone? I’m sure there’s more to come….
Playing the role of “France” tonight will be SAG-East.
Although post #1 is pretty funny (seriously) …

Below The Line would have more of a life if the AMPTP stopped screwing around and made fair deals with the unions.
Just sayin…
Thank goodness there are some left in SAG with a brain and with some integrity.
Thank you, New York Board.
It sounds like SAG East is more pissed off that they were not included in the decision, and therefore want to punish the President and Exec Director. What else is new?
We’re all stuck in defacto strike mode while these fools fight amongst themselves? This is embarrassing. Then again, we’re talking actors… not exactly the smartest bunch.
New York was included in the decision. They were simply outvoted 13-10, with two Hollywood members who disagreed with the Allens too frightened to actually vote against the idiocy they’d spoken out against.
So really, the NEC was 13-12. And on that the Allens launched another war, and spent another $150,000 on their political campaigns.
Sound familiar?
