EXCLUSIVE: I’m told Nicole Chabot is moving to BNC (Bragman, Nyman, Cafarelli) after six years at BWR (Baker Winokur Ryder). She’ll be a director in media relations. The reason this is interesting is because it puts BNC into the hot young comic business bigtime, adding to the flackery’s already heavyweight list. “This is potentially a significant shift in the personal PR business especially in the comedy marketplace,” my insider tells me. Chabot at Beverly Hills-based BWR (a cog in the big wheel of Ogilvie PR Worldwide) helped handle Rainn Wilson, Chris Rock, Jason Segel, Rob Corddry, Danny McBride, Jason Biggs, Andy Richter, Nick Swardson, Robert Hoffman, Clarke Duke, Craig Robinson, Sean Avery, Jay Hernandez, Jody Hill, Michael Rosenbaum, Dan Fogler, Terry Crews, Diora Baird, JR Bourne and others.
I’m hearing that Rainn Wilson, Rob Corddry, Clarke Duke, Craig Robinson, Jay Hernandez, Diora Baird and Michael Rosenbaum are probably moving with her to the Interpublic-owned ghetto of flackeries inside West Hollywood’s Green Whale. No word yet on the others, but more are expected to follow. BWR sent this statement to me this afternoon: ”BWR wants to clarify that Nicole Chabot was assigned day-to-day to many clients as she was recently promoted from her junior publicist position last year. She did not sign, nor is she taking, Chris Rock, Jason Segel, Danny McBride, Jason Biggs, Jody Hill or Dan Fogler.”
Her move is considered a coup for BNC which has been growing this segment of their business over the past few years under Lewis Kay and Amy Zvi. They already rep funnymen (and funnywomen) Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Jay Baruchel, Will Forte, Jenna Fischer, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (How I Met Your Mother EP’s). In fact, their client list has grown so fast they’re actually looking to hire — at a time when most flackeries are firing personnel. But here’s the downside: I’ve always been told that the problem with personal PR is that the clients pay next to bupkis and that ain’t funny at all. TV series, movies, production companies and corporate companies — now they pay for PR through the nose.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

her mentor, matt labov must be freaked. he created a monster.
BWR’s response is telling. They didn’t dispute one fact in your post. Who cares what she was a year ago? If BWR felt comfortable enough to have her individually rep those clients then that tells me (and certainly told BNC) she is ready for a bigger job.
I think it is a smart move by BNC. I don’t think Nicole will be the last to flee BWR as 42 West and PMK are on the prowl.
How is this a seismic shift? All of Chabot’s BWR clients (aside from Rock) were second-stringers at best, and the ones coming with her to BNC are strictly third-tier.
Emmy Nominee Rainn WIlson is “third-tier”? Rob Corddry? Craig Robinson (with Pineapple Express coming out and Office)? I don’t think it is such a bad start…plus who knows who else will eventually come?
Lewis Kay getting credit for doing anything other than avoiding calls is a joke and I can’t believe Amy is still with him. Lewis Kay can only handle pretty girls, much like David Lust, Amy is the workhorse in that combo. You gotta look at the obvious connection of having Amy Poehler, Will Arnett and Michael Cera. Jimmy and Sarah like Amy and Will package deals. Really overstating that this is some shift in the pr world. As far as 42 west and PMK poaching, you just made 42 west’s week by mentioning them in the same sentence as the machine that is PMK. Those broads run the PR world even with their short summer hours and their lunchtime mini lifts. Funny that you think funny folks don’t pay, if they had real pr reps, they would and still be walked by the assistant down the carpet and be invited to every party in town. Good pr is judged by what you can get into and out of.
You mean Rainn Wilson, star of such hit films as “The Last Mimzy”? Rob Corddry, who just played the second fiddle in “What Happens In Vegas”?
They may all be nice, decent funny guys, but let’s be honest, none of ‘em are getting the cover of GQ any time soon, and they’re not the wattage of talent that lures other big-name personalities to join your roster.
Matt LaBov handles Chris Rock…he has for over a decade.
Was the inclusion of Kimmel and Silverman under “funny” meant to be ironic?
BWR still has a monopoly on the comedy PR world. they represent EVERY member of the judd apatow clan as well as will ferrel, john c reily, adam sandler (not by labov though..he is by brad pitt’s cindy guagenti), steve carrel, jon stewart and jack black to name a few.
nicole chabot leaving BWR sounds like a big deal but in reality , along with gina hoffman’s arrival, is nothing to think twice about.
A couple of those clients mentioned by “matthew” aren’t with BWR anymore.
Seismic? Please. Flacks are only as important as the clients they rep and with that list, important is a real stretch. Honestly, who cares what these publicists think. Lewis Kay? Nicole? Makes me long for real strategists and image makers.
