The winners of the 2008 AltWeekly Awards were announced yesterday in Philadelphia at a luncheon held as part of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies’ annual convention for alternative newsweeklies across the United States and Canada. The contest administered by Northwestern University’s Medill School Of Journalism seeks to “promote excellence by recognizing work that is well written, incisively reported and effectively challenges established orthodoxies.”
I’m pleased to announce:

Congratulations and thank you very much for the quality of your work, your precious efforts, your sense of humor, your tone, your freedom of speech an your first-class information daily dose.
Hollywoodland would only be a bonfire of vanities without you.
Congratulations, Nikki, you have the best inside-the-industry info in the media.
Congrats, Nikki.
Congrats Nikki
You so deserved the awards.
Cheers!
You deserve it! I think of you as another Walter Winchell without the baggage.
I guess congrats are in order. Well done! I guess this is pissing off guys like Peter Bart.
Congratulations! Well deserved. I rely on you for my daily industry fix….
Congratulations Nikki…You are consistently and enthusiastically specific about the truth as you see it..No corporate bias..just you…I love it…
I couldn’t be more proud of you (than you are).
Seriously, though, don’t pull a muscle patting yourself on the back.
Well done, Ms. Finke. Congratulations and keep at it. We need your style of journalism so badly in this industry, it’s not even funny.
I thank you for your excellent work and offer sincere congratulations on being recognized for its quality and perception.
Your combination of inside knowledge, personal insight, and measured use of confidential information has alerted a very wide audience that somebody is struggling to write truthful entertainment-industry news. Principled argument is back, thanks in part, to you. The controlling, traditional media should understand that they must reach beyond industry press releases and machine-written, one-sided coverage, if they want to maintain a serious following.
My daughter is in the early stages of her lifetime dream, being part of the movie industry. Your columns during the writers’ strike hooked me. I understood more and worried less about her career. Things were changing for the better in so many ways.
What I enjoy most about your writing is your warm obituaries on accomplished, well-liked people in the industry who did great work in their fields. I don’t find this anywhere else except in William F. Buckley’s writing about his friends.
When I start to lose motivation because of health problems, I look at Clint Eastwood’s career, among others’, for hope. Please stay healthy and motivated.
I’ve only been reading this blog for about a month now (Thank Jeremy Smith at CHUD for tuning me in) and I do enjoy this destination and check it daily now. Big congrats to you Ms. Finke for winning not one but TWO categories. ^.^
Congrats, Nickie!
YOU’RE THE BEST!!!!!
(and the LA Times is trash)
should be called “the only real journalist left standing” award. congrats!
Not to be too repetitive . . . mucho congrats, Nikki!!!
