How often does this happen? Will Smith was on Letterman last night and noted that his 7-year-old daughter Willow’s film Kit Kittredge: An American Girl opens wide against his Hancock in U.S. theaters on the same day (July 2nd). Said Will, “I told her, ‘Daddy loves you sweetie, but I gots to stomp you at the box office.’ ” Then Dave snarked, “I’ve got a son, but even I know that American Girl thing is very popular.” But Willow was quoted as saying a few days earlier about her Dad, ”He thinks he is going to be beat me, but I think not. I think I am going to beat him.”

Gimme a yay! for nepotism.
Those kids are going to be majorly f*cked up when they get older. Why doesn’t anyone question Will and Jada or call them on whoring those kids out for the cameras and red carpet? Have you seen these kids being interviewed? They’re obnoxious and they aren’t even teens yet.
How about the fact that a couple worth millions feels the need to pimp out both their children? Yeah, yeah, I know: the kids LOVE acting and BEGGED to be in films. Whatever. If kids want to act, put them in community theater. Don’t force them to be child laborers. Sick.
Awwww! Now that’s a good dilemma to have. I’m betting on Hancock for opening weekend. But Kit will have legs.
Haha..love the piece of story Nikki. Seems like either way, The Smiths will win no matter
Just another proof point on how HWood puts business before family.
He may be joking, but in a “funny because it’s true” way.
Afterall, who is going to pay for little Willow’s 25k a year grammar school?
The Fresh Prince’s first dollar gross.
Over normal Americans there are more than one marrige/divorce in tinseltown. Work in the account how many custody suits as well. It gives the perception of tinseltown plays fast and loose with family. Some say the sitcoms satires family theme. Just some points to make one think. But not all marriges in hollywood end in divorce. I bet Will and Jada Smith are a good example.
this is NOT cute, Smith sticking his kids in movies when they whine for it is obnoxious nepotism to the worst degree
this biz has become an insulated circle jerk, no wonder it’s stagnant
Sounds like the plot of a Judd Apatow movie.
I just watched it (Australia gets it the following day) and it was all said in jest. It was actually pretty funny!
What is Willow’s position on the AFTRA contract?
They are a really grounded family and clearly are joking about something that is not serious and they are not taking seriously. Maybe reading a bit too much into this?
Sorry to break it to you, Willow, but at the end of the day you’re still the one going to the crazy Scientologist school.
“adorable”
Ahh, Hollywood! For Willow, you go grrrl!
I saw the same interview on Letterman and it seemed to be in jest. However, I kept thinking about Ryan O’Neal and Tatum during the entire exchange.
Now THAT’S a healthy family dynamic!
Wow!!!! there seem to be some really jealous sounding responses to this. I thought this blog was better than that.
This is GREAT!
wow, i too am surprised at all the (perhaps?) jealousy and self-righteousness.
i was a kid actor and really enjoyed it. I received a good on-set education, discipline and the opportunity to be creative. Then i went on to college and found other interests. What’s the problem here? I sincerely doubt smith is a smothering stage parent.
The scientology thing I don’t get but really folks, what’s the big deal with his talented kids wanting to be in a couple movies and the smiths letting them?
Will Smith has been in Hollywood too long. Smug jackass.
Jealous much. Will Smith is awesome. His kids, who I have met, are pretty down to earth. Get over yourself people. If you could put your relatives in your movies you would in a heartbeat. Who wouldn’t want their kids to follow in their footsteps. When my Dad was alive he would take me to work with him every now and then and it was cool. Will Smith is a really good guy who is raising a family in a very challenged society. We have all had nepotism in our lives. Some more apparent then others. Don’t be so jealous.
By the way, the Letterman interview was great. When he and Dave kissed, hysterical.
Good lord, it was a JOKE. The bitterness around these parts is staggering at times.
I thought I was on DHD but I guess I logged on to Perezhilton instead?
It’s in jest but to me it indicates a very creepy depth of perspective for a child that age that she even GETS the joke, as in, haha aren’t we all just ruthless animals out to kill one another as we whore for boxoffice dollars, hehe. And that Will finds it funny is gross too. Creeps me out. Shrinks and meds to follow when its dawns on them, why did you make me DO that, I was just a kid!
