I’m told that Paramount’s EVP of integrated marketing and national publicity Michael Vollman is jumping to MGM to become EVP of worldwide marketing as well as take on the title of prez of worldwide marketing for United Artists. He’s now the senior marketing guy overseeing both studios, reporting to chairman of MGM worldwide motion picture group Mary Parent as well as to UA CEO Paula Wagner.
Meanwhile, United Artists prez of worldwide marketing and publicity Dennis Rice is exiting the studio as well as MGM prez of worldwide marketing Perry Stahman. Rice has been at UA since April 2007 after leaving Disney’s movie division as senior vice president of publicity. Stahman has been at MGM since April 2006 after coming over from 20th Century Fox where he was SVP for creative advertising. (FYI, I filed this very early AM but a website crash prevented it from being posted.)

Mike Vollman is one of the nicest, hardest working guys you will ever meet– he deserves this 100%.
Does MGM still make movies? OK, James Bond, but those market themselves (pec shots, fast cars, commercial tie-ins, hot theme song etc.). I think Mike will need to work a full-time miracle on “Valkyrie”. I don’t envy him one bit.
No name here- don’t want to be accused of sucking up- but I have to agree- Vollman is the best- professional- brilliant and a word you don’t ever hear- LOYAL. I know this site is where people pile on the negatives- but this is a HUGE win for MGM/UA. They will be far better at what they do with Vollman there.
When Dennis Rice went over there I thought he was supposed to be ‘the greatest’ too. What happened? Consolidation?
What a huge loss for Par. They’re idiots. Vollman is a treasure. Although… all these nice comments are freaking me out. How unusual for this website.
I think MGM has Bond and don’t they have a stake in The Hobbit(s)?
Vollman is great and Paramount sucks a big one for letting him go. Way to go, Brad Grey. You fucking moron.
Vollman came over from DreamWorks. Maybe he has been purged by Paramount, now that their relationship with DW is unwinding? Plus MGM is not a big deal anymore and whatever his merits, I can’t imagine this is going to be a challenging experience for him.
PS He’s a nice guy but has a wicked temper.
Sony released the last Bond and is releasing the next one also.
Maybe, just maybe, a person who deserves kudos is getting them (re a couple comments that are surprised that positive reactions have sprung forth from this site) and that Josh G. might have deserved some of the comments he got.
And maybe, this might be the only honest place for such assessments when people do not give their real names.
I got my start working as Vollman’s assistant. I would not be where I am today without that time I spent learning from him. He is one of the smartest guys I have ever worked for. A great move by MGM.
Michael Vollman is a huge win for MGM/UA. He is really talented and creative. Paramount was insane to let him go but if anyone can get MGM/UA moving in the right direction, he is the man!!!
