has stodel in 10 years ever demonstrated his “success at spotting unique and dynamic material”? I can’t recall the last film he bought at New Line. Can anyone?
really?
REALLY?
Stodel’s a nice guy and well versed in film, but I can’t recall him EVER buying ANYTHING.
Not sure where or when he’s demonstrated those “creative instincts etc”
As one person put it, looks like PV is out of the acquisitions business.
Good to hear. Stodel was one of the (few) really Good Guys there at NL, and without a doubt the writers’ friend. Good taste, low key, very on top of things. Happy to know he’ll be doing his thing at Par.
Guy made New Line a lot of money with the acquisition of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which he fought for when a lot of people (including me) thought was a bad idea. He actually tried to buy a lot of things that his bosses didn’t want that turned out to be hit elsewhere. I’m hoping he turns that place around and actually makes the place profitable. Turning it into a place like a Screen Gems or Rogue is a pretty good idea. Rogue’s The Strangers is probably one of the most profitable movies of the summer and Screen Gems has been one of the most consistently profitable divisions of Sony.
Nikki, I have a suggestion. When you post news items like this, why not turn the comments button off? I feel like sometimes you post these things and just wait for the sharks to bite with their negative comments. And this being Hollywood, there are always negative comments. Wouldn’t you feel better not to give these kind of people a voice? I knew Guy, worked with him years ago, and I’m thrilled for him. Maybe not a newsworthy comment, but it’s the truth.
Stodel is truly one of the good guys in town… very savvy and completely down to Earth. He deserves this and I’m thrilled for him.
Wait a minute, Paramount Vantage is still in business?
Like many in the industry I know both Amy and Guy. These are two high quality people and there’s no reason to cut one down at the expense of the other. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s rooting for both of them, and I bet they’re rooting for each other. Not everyone in the business is an asshole.
