California governator Arnold Schwarzenegger is so useless — and not just because nearly every morning he sits around drinking coffee in a Brentwood cafe instead of tending to state business in Sacramento. Now, instead of helping the California economy by stopping the networks’ and studios’ runaway production, he’ll seek headlines tomorrow by announcing a “major Hollywood anti-smoking initiative” with the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
And read up on the similarities between Hellboy and Arnold. Separated at birth:

Bad public policy, The Schwarz should know better.

Isnt he a cigar smoker!!?? What a douche. Maybe he should spend a little more time on the State Budget problems…
I would say, well, what did you expect, you guys elected him governor, but hey, the rest of the country actually re-elected Bush, so… at least there’s always the next election.
Uh, isn’t the whole state like, on fire and smoking?
Maybe we should start a recall on this moron?
I remember when he was running and told IA members he wouldn’t forget the business when he got to Sacramento. Yeah, right. And he’s the greatest actor since Olivier.
Just keep fiddling, Arnie, while CA economy (espically the film industry) burns and runs away.
And then they wonder why there’s a low voter turn-out.

Somebody please call Jerry Brown and ask him to come back to office and revive our beautiful state.
What? A smoking ban? Why is an image of ARNIE circa ’87 in PREDATOR burned into my brain – him exiting an APACHE Chopper with a HUGE STOOGIE between his shit eating grin. What the fuck is this garbage – BAN smoking in Hollywood films?
A. Doesnt our state reps in Sacramento have more important business to attend to.
B. Arnie – don’t forget your roots – its only a MOVIE!
Christ – focus on passing some legislation that will actually make a difference in this recession ridden economy – I mean, with the morgatge crisis only about half of California has lost their home. Maybe time to PRIORITIZE instead of wasting time worrying about a ciggie here or there on the silver screen. Oui Vey!
Are you kidding me? Arnold has a huge tent set up outside of the governor’s mansion that has a full office inside – so he can smoke cigars while he works! What a fucking hypocrite. Can we please have Gray Davis back?
Evveryone complaining about runaway production (Nikki) what should he do? Please explain how a state that blows money like it’s going out of style (don’t forget to blame the state legislature who routinely override Arnold’s spending vetos) is going to ‘solve’ runaway production?
CA can’t offer tax breaks like other states do due to having no money. LA operates on a big deficit at the moment (thanks, Antonio) which is a BIG ‘no no’ for a city so they can’t do anything. Every union got a raise this year raising the base costs. Every studio save for one has expereienced double digit stock losses in terms of percentage so it’s not like they can ‘gift’ extra money to remain in CA since shareholders will be pissed, dump the stock and push the companies towards insolvency.
There are a billion other things that need to be fixed (we could start by not spending more money on social services for non-tax paying illegal immigrants and cutting some of the other ridiculous entitlement programs for everyone else; novel idea I know) before they can even get close to addressing runaway production (which desperately needs to be addressed) CA has always been the most poorly run state in the US and it continues to be that way. New York is a close second. Must be something about the coasts.
Peggy, LOL. I think you nailed it.
Smoke got in his eyes.

State spending is out of control, illegal immigrants are flooding the country, the public schools are broken, taxes are taking 50% of your income, gasoline is at $5 a gallon, half the state is on fire, movie production has moved to Canada, but, boy, we’ve got to do something about smoking!
It shouldn’t be a surprise. Governors around the country are using this as a “smoke screen” (pun intended) to make it look like they’re doing something. Hamburgers, fries and milk shakes will be next to be banned while doing nothing about the real issues.
I guess John & Ken at KFI are real proud of themselves right about now.
As usual in L.A., cigarettes are worse than pot and violence.
That shouldn’t stop Hollywood from making Harold and Kumar Parts 3, 4, 5…
…And of course don’t forget all the smokeless World War II movies. Kill everything in sight, just don’t light up a cigarette afterwards.
*shudder*
