Forced IATSE Locals Merger Hits Big Snag

I’m told that the merger of IATSE locals 790 and 847 into Local 800 was supposed to be IATSE prez Tom  Short’s legacy before retiring. But it hasn’t gone smoothly to say the least. The two smaller locals recently filed an federal injunction to prevent Short’s forced merger and their case has gone to the National Labor Relations Board for resolution. Local 790 represents 200 illustrators, matte artists and storyboard illustrators. Local 847 represents 200 or so set designers and model makers.
