George Clooney this afternoon just responded to published reports that he is phoning and texting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on everything from the Middle East to body language. FOXNews.com today posted an account by the London Daily Mail claiming Clooney and Obama regularly chat by email and text message, speak by phone at least twice a week, and have ”struck up this amazing affinity”. The paper also claimed the actor is informally advising the candidate on Middle East issues, including advocating unconditional withdrawal from Iraq should Obama win office. In recent days, Republican presidential candidate has been trying to use Obama’s “celebrity” status against him in a series of TV ads aimed at getting the most media exposure possible. And they have.
But Clooney just issued this statement through his publicist denying all the claims: ”I have never texted or emailed Senator Obama. And I’ll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise. In fact, I’ve only talked to the Senator once in the last year and a half….on the phone. I’ve spent more time with Senator McCain (he did my TV show) then I have with Senator Obama. I would hope that my friend John McCain would join me in condemning this kind of politics. Although I support Senator Obama, I would never be dumb enough to offer policy advice to either candidate. They seem to be doing fine without me.”
The two photos of Clooney and Obama (shown above) were taken on April 27, 2006, as they arrived for a National Press Club program and prss conference in Washington DC to discuss the situation in Darfur.

I’m sorry but I’m at a loss as to why anyone should give a shit about what George Clooney has to say about the Middle East or any other issue and why Obama would even pay attention. I can’t stand either of those smug assholes. Perhaps Georgie Porgie ought to concentrate on his faltering film career and leave actual politicians to decide on the fate of the planet instead.
Geez, Crystal Diane, who peed in your grits?
A more literate person would have noticed the part where Clooney responded to the ridiculous story. A less gullible person would see the source, FOXNoise, and know what a steaming pile it likely is. The humor with which Clooney responded is an indication of the absurdity of the story.
Maybe Crystal Wistle ought to focus on her own lack of a grasp on reality rather than insult the stellar careers of people who didn’t want to be dragged into the story in the first place. Talk about smug.
Crystal, are you sure you’ve read and understood the above article?
The Daily Mail is not exactly a credible source, to say nothing of Fox News….
Crystal, did you bother to read the article? Clooney said, “I would never be dumb enough to offer policy advice to either candidate. They seem to be doing fine without me.”
It’s a good idea to read the story before adding your Hannity-inspired two cents.
This absolutely kills me. Before George Clooney or anyone in Lala land starts advising anyone about anything on a national level, he should start integrating the film & tv industry for starters or get another HOBBY. Having worked in Cali in the business for many years, I am still perplexed and have been so since day one how segregated and closed minded the industry is too color. Here is a city where many latinos reside and there are absolutely very few of them and black people in the business. And the ones that are, are not a real representation of the masses.
Hey George, again, why don’t you try to change the industry just a tiny bit before you try to change anything else.
nameless & shoeless,
read the four or five posts above yours addressed to crystal. then read the article instead of just the headline. and then realize what ass you just made of yourself.
Nameless, shoeless, and senseless.
Is it any wonder right-wingers are so stupid? They don’t f-cking read.
This posting is turning out to be a great intelligence test!
Learn to read the entire article before you post people!
First off, the original story was obviously a silly fabrication. Secondly, you can take or leave Clooney’s politics, but the man was nominated for 2 Oscars in March, and the film he directed/produced garnered several more noms and an acting win for best supporting actress.
Fanboy-wise, he’s in the going-to-be superawesome Cohen Brothers movie that’s coming out in September.
If that’s “faltering”, I would like to know how to make my career falter, ASAP.
@ nameless & shoeless joe It’s really not talent’s job to increase diversity in the industry. Your beef is with the studios, who believe that middle America (and the foreign markets) won’t see films with a minority lead, unless it’s Will Smith. If you want to change that, pick up a camera and make a movie. Good luck.
you forgot to add “brainless”, joe… do you & crystal finish reading anything before responding? Unbelievable.
I wish I had a nickel for every pointless rant I’ve read on comment boards (including mine!) Hell, I’d have enough to buy a tank of gas at least once a week – considering how much “hot air” gets thrown around maybe I can use it as an alternative fuel!
In one respect I have to agree with shoeless and Crystal – celebrity doesn’t automatically give you the credibility to make commentary on politics (yea, I’m talking about you Paris).
But I think in Clooney’s case, he at least reads the newspaper and keeps informed on current events before he does open his mouth – most of the time. He has had his cringe-inducing moments.
As to Crystal’s comment that Clooney “ought to concentrate on his faltering film career and leave actual politicians to decide on the fate of the planet instead..” I have to look back at the last 8 years and see what “politicians” have done with the fate of this planet and wonder if maybe it might be better left to “actors with faltering film careers.”
Hell, Reagan did a better job than this current bozo!
What will she do if Obama gets elected? Move to Canada? The fate of the planet (and more importantly to me – our country) is not just in the politician’s hands. It’s in all our hands and if we don’t want 8 more years of the same bullshit, then we’d all better get off our asses and get out there and vote.
But for godssakes, please listen to what these guys are saying and watch what they are doing. Do some damn research! I swear, I think some people go to the polls with their two party blinders on and don’t think for themselves – just do what their party leaders tell them to! Hell, I’d even settle for commonsense, but we don’t seem to have much of that either!
Okay, it looks like I just bought myself a tank of gas.
Ya’ll have good evening!
George Clooney advising Obama is sure to do a lot for his foreign policy credentials. LOL. Just at a time when Obama needs all the credibility in foreign affair expertise they come out with this fiasco. A bozo advising the Professor. Probably make a good remake.
douchebags to the left. douchebags to the right.
who can even distinguish the two sides anymore, at this point in time?
Keep Paris the fuck out of this- she had a right to respond to the spurious inuendo espoused by McCain. He used her image, without consent, in a political campaign. He had no right to do this. Especially when the Hiltons were a financial supporter of his campaign. She could be (and many argue is) the most talentless hack alive, but she still has a god and constituional given right to say ‘back the fuck off’ and give a retort. And she gave a funny one at that.
Seems we have a lot of Clooney and Obama fans on this board.
Funny how a news network reports the story, then a movie star says it’s not true and most of the posters here seem to agree with the star. God…celebrity is great isn’t it?
Anyhow…I think there’s probably some truth to the story, but the question is will Obama throw Clooney under the bus. If Clooney had confirmed the story and stolen a bit of the limelight from Obama, I bet Obama woulda denounced him immediately.
Remember poor little Scarlett Johansson? She tried to play her Obama card around town. She’s was claiming her and Obama were pen pals with e-mails and texts. Obama threw her under the bus…said not only does he not communicate with her on any regular basis and that the one e-mail reply she did get from him was written by his assistant. What a fool…he actually threw Scarlett under the bus. He lost my vote right there!
So maybe the Scarlett denouncement was because he didn’t want to add any credence to what we we’re all thinking we’d do if Scarlett was on our jock.
Either way, there’s some truth to both sides of both stories…I’m not ready to say it’s all bull because it was denied by a movie star and a politician.
(Let’s all remember The National Enquirer was the one who broke the John Edwards story.)
with respect to the story being a fabrication, great. again I repeat, lets see clooney put some of his money where his political contributions are and try to change the biz which is totally out of whack with the real world be before he attempts to do anything else. like i stated, he should try his influence peddling with the industry first or get another hobby. lets see him do something about that the biz deserting so cal to save and costing plenty of people their livelihoods.
you damn hollywood libs ready to lose again?
get ready
TOLDJA! Clooney for veep!!!
On the contrary, sd, this right-winger has read a great deal about Senator Obama in all sorts of publications — left, right, and center. Enough to know that I wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstances.
Dear Hollywood,
Such a pity that all this space and energy gets wasted on comments which will have little, if any, effect on the future.
Too many people think that once they ‘vote’ that they’ve done all that’s required and their candidate will take care of business for them.
Just like the Governator has done for Hollywood and California.
You’re in better shape now with him at the helm, right?
This is like the parents who blame ‘those other kids’ that their child hangs around with for their brat getting into trouble.
Your politican needs constant monitoring, just like your child. Once you let them off the leash, they’re gonna do what they want.
So, it’s always ‘those other politcians’ that cause the problems, not your long-term, bought and paid for by the corporations, local political hack.
Sorry to be so blunt, but our current problems started way back BEFORE Reagan. He set the game in motion to help crush the unions and it’s been a downhill slide for the American culture every since.
Enjoy the faux election. You can vote, but how do you know if it counts?
Don’t worry, the already chosen candidate will win.
You want results, you better be ready to raise hell, each and every day with our so-called leaders.
They are counting on you to vote and go away.
Don’t you have TV, the internet or a movie to watch?
Now this is a real publicity blunder on GC’s part. Becouse of public perception. In the case of present conflict in Russian Occuppied Georgia Clooney should’ve kept his mouth shut. I believce this star publicist’s nightmare when a celebrity comes out to be an advisor for a presidental canidate no matter what party. Becouse there are consequences to this. Like Clooney being subjected to Leno,Letterman and tonight on the O’Reilly Factor to Dennis Miller. This could become a nightmare before its over with. For any publicists. Honestly in public statements like this George should’ve been for straight forward and honest on this subject in the press. Forign policy advisor? Now could hurt in the end and I believe this has embarrassed the Obama campaign.
Listen I like George Clooney. U know I saw in Person when I worked on Oh Brother Where Art Thou? I disagree with his politics but I still think he’s cool.
Wow, You buncha loser liberals should drop the blinders. Of course the demi clooney is showing Nobama how to perform, thats all it is too, a performance. He’s just another liberal liar like his daddy clinocio.
If Nobama does win, I dont want too hear you buncha yeahoos whining that its the republicans fault.
Leave “Crystal” alone.
Just because Clooney denies quietly advising Obama, doesn’t mean he isn’t. He has a history of arrogantly injecting himself into elections, as do several “celebs.” Problem is they realized their involvement might’ve created a backlash because their candidate always tanked. Clooney has even commented on that.
Both guys are smug, and Clooney’s acting career has seen better days.
I always laugh when people try and knock politicians who talk to people who might have good ideas simply because there considered a celebrity. If you have ever heard Geoge Clooney speak its quite obvious he’s a highly intelligent guy. As far as getting are troups out of the Middle East- DOES anyone think that shouldn’t be are goal? Personally who ever becomes the next president they better come up with a real alternative energy plan and quickly. If we continue to rely on foreign oil we will see WW3 sooner than later. There is no more IMPORTANT issue than alternative energy. If Obama does speak to Clooney and get advice I say good for him because if I were running for president I would speak to everyone I could who had a brain and learn as much as I could, and I wouldn’t care what side of the political spectrum it came from.
Intelligent dialogue is imperative for the future of this country.
