George Clooney this afternoon just responded to published reports that he is phoning and texting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on everything from the Middle East to body language. FOXNews.com today posted an account by the London Daily Mail claiming Clooney and Obama regularly chat by email and text message, speak by phone at least twice a week, and have ”struck up this amazing affinity”. The paper also claimed the actor is informally advising the candidate on Middle East issues, including advocating unconditional withdrawal from Iraq should Obama win office. In recent days, Republican presidential candidate has been trying to use Obama’s “celebrity” status against him in a series of TV ads aimed at getting the most media exposure possible. And they have.
But Clooney just issued this statement through his publicist denying all the claims: ”I have never texted or emailed Senator Obama. And I’ll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise. In fact, I’ve only talked to the Senator once in the last year and a half….on the phone. I’ve spent more time with Senator McCain (he did my TV show) then I have with Senator Obama. I would hope that my friend John McCain would join me in condemning this kind of politics. Although I support Senator Obama, I would never be dumb enough to offer policy advice to either candidate. They seem to be doing fine without me.”
The two photos of Clooney and Obama (shown above) were taken on April 27, 2006, as they arrived for a National Press Club program and prss conference in Washington DC to discuss the situation in Darfur.

Summary of article and knee-jerk responses.
Article:
George – “I didn’t give advice”
Idiot responses:
“Why is George giving advice?????”
How is it that the reactionaries on the right attacks / writes off any movie star who dares offer an opinion on politics or affairs of state, while lionizing Ronald Regan in the same breath.
Hypocricy much?
“BigSid”
You’re a lowlife. Useless men like you can only sexualize women which means you probably look like a toad. Scarlett J. is annoying (as is Clooney), but her involvement with Obama’s campaign shouldn’t be “heh, heh, wink, wink” and Clooney’s is applauded.
Loser.

Newsflash: Hilton didn’t write the response to McCain’s ad. It was scripted and directed and staged. Duh.
It also was kind of pathetic, an obvious attempt for her to recapture dissipated limelight, relying on tired old catchphrases that should be kept amongst the mothballs (I’m hot, Luvs It, etc etc blah blah snore)
Shame on Obama for taking advice from this Jack Abramoff partner in crime!
Oh wait, it’s the fossil doing that. My bad. Carry on with your manufactured outrage.
“Funny how a news network reports the story…”
Funny how you’ve mistaken foxnews.com for a news network.
Now to add to this is that the Senator Obama is miffed at Paris Hilton’s add. Frankly I got the impression she outsmarted him with her own energy plan. Even Paris would make Nancy Pelosi look stupid.
I would deny helping Obama as well. Obama is only 6 points ahead in the latest CNN poll. You would think he would be 20 points ahead at this point…
I see the “Paris Hilton” fans are on the board.
I just have one question. Thousands of tabloids have used her picture without her permission; entertainment and news sources use her pictures without her permission on a regular basis. Paps are selling her picture left and right. WTF is the difference if McCain used it?
I never said Paris didn’t have the right to respond. I said just because she’s a celebrity doesn’t automatically make her qualified to comment on politics. Just as any non-celebrity who DOESN’T DO THEIR HOMEWORK on the politicians, their platforms and the issues would not automatically be qualified to comment. Hell, we all know we do it, because it’s quite evident we live in a world of opinionated folks but that doesn’t mean we’re qualified to comment.
That was my point which seems to have been lost in the red haze of indignition spewing from the Paris supporter comments. Geez, I had to step back from the computer screen it got so hot in here! What next, a video on YouTube of a distressed fan crying and screaming to “Leave Paris Alone!”
Lighten up buddy – Paris doesn’t need you to come to her defense or her rescue. As you pointed out, she did that all on her own. At least we think she did. I still wonder… did she write all that herself or did someone write it for her?
Someone else commented that voting is not the end of the process and I have to agree. But let’s start there – with voters who have listened to what was and is being said, who have watched what is happening, are using some common sense to determine what is real and what is PR bullshit (or SPIN) and then make an informed choice. I agree we don’t spend as much time holding elected officials accountable for their actions AFTER the elections. I’m all for that.
I’m still amazed that there are no performance evaluations REQUIRED of our politicians on a regular basis. Hey, have a set of criteria (definitely throw in ethics, how about some morals, a big chunk of honesty amongst other things — I’m still cringing at John Edwards’ screw up) and let’s evaluate them on a yearly basis.
Where is Bush’s evaluation sheet? Where is Arnold’s? Where are the sheets for all the politicians in Sacramento who can’t agree on a damn budget?
I love how the Dems have dug in their heels and won’t cut spending and the Reps have dug in their heels and won’t increase taxes. It’s basic fucking math folks! If you spend more than you take in you can’t pay your bills! Doesn’t take a college graduate to figure that out – those of us here in the trenches are dealing with that shit everyday and we still don’t understand how you all don’t get it!
And we, the taxpayers, will continue to pay for all the borrowing they have to do to pay the bills. Just put it on the tax payer credit card and let the next legislature or generation worry about it. Can’t pay those bills, hell, let’t put a bond measure on the ballot. And idiots keep voting for that shit. Who do you think pays those bonds? The same idiots who voted for it but were too stupid to understand that it’s just another tax.
Well, lookee here, I’ve just done my small part for the environment today – another 5 minutes of hot air. Now if we could just figure out how to harness it and put it in my tank.
**rolls eyes, shrugs, walks off…**
Just trust me on this one, I know people who have worked with Clooney and one guy who is one of his oldest friends. He is a stand-up, decent generous guy who is extremely thoughtful and funny as hell to everyone around him on the set, both above and below the line. He’s not a saint, but who the hell is? You can disagree with his politics ( I do), but don’t denigrate the man in the process.
Preston I’m with you on that one. I encountered GC when I worked on the set of OH Brother Where Art thou? He said to me directly:”Look’em,Kill’em.” That freaked me out after that. But I agree, just becouse one disagrees with his politics,he shouldn’t be chopped down. I like to know is all of this a publicity stunt?
As Paris she speaks for herself and I can tell you she made fools of both canidates over energy. I give her credit for that.
Clooney says he has spoken to Obama once in 18 months, and that was on the phone. Nikki Finke shows a photo of Clooney with Obama, seemingly to question Clooney’s statement. {Was that the intent?} Yet the caption clearly states the photo was taken 2 years and 3 months ago, which is obviously not in the past 18 months.
So Clooney’s honest as far as we know. Why do these right wing Bush-worshippers who are commenting here hate Clooney so much? Ganted, ER was and is an abominable show, but that was the fault of its George-Bush-loving creator Michael Crichton, who denies global warming and is a warped man in general.
But Clooney’s ACTING on ER was superb. You can’t blame him for the twisted and insulting direction that that televised travesty has taken since he left the show.
Jenius,
At least Fox News has the balls to not roll over and lick its lips whenever Obama’s name is mentioned. I’m sick of the media’s love fest over Obama. No wonder his numbers have plummeted. Whenever the media gushes over someone to such an extent, the backlash begins.
FYI, I noticed the part where Georgie Porgie denied the claims but I don’t believe a God damned thing that comes out of that smug asshole’s bourbon-soaked mouth.
It sounds like you’re the smug asshole…. stripper-name stevens…
As if a hack like you without an imbd listing is even fit to lick clooney’s bourbon soaked boots.
Besides, i always thought clooney would be more of a martini on the rocks kind of guy….
Clooney should sue the Daily Mail in England and give the proceeds to charity, let that right wing rag pay for trying to interfere in American politics.
I have always hated when Americans side with foreigners to believe and say the worse things about a fellow American, and at those times the word that comes to me is traitor.
The Daily Mail is a foreign newspaper printing trash about an American, and when called to choose some would side agains fellow Americans…traitors, turncoats, and self haters.
