Chace Crawford just won the Teen Choice Award for breakout TV star last night. (The awards show will air on Fox tonight.) So naturally ICM is trying to hang onto the 23-year-old media darling. But CW's Gossip Girl hunk has just let the tenpercentery know he's taking meetings with other agencies: specifically CAA, Endeavor and Paradigm.
He also plans to come in and talk to the top guys at ICM now that his longtime agents there have left or been let go. In the agency biz, you either grow stars or steal stars. ICM has had more success with the former than the latter right now. Case in point: ICM's Mad Men leading man Jon Hamm, thanks to showrunner Matt Weiner. Hamm is already receiving shout-outs for his role in Fox's upcoming big movie The Day The Earth Stood Still which Hamm did during his hiatus between seasons. ICM also reps other Mad Men breakout stars now in demand January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, and Aaron Staton.
IT MUST BE A SLOW NEWS DAY, IF YOU ARE BLOGGING ABOUT ICM. ARE THEY STILL IN THE TALENT BUISNESS?
NICE TRY ON THERE END PLUGGING MAD MEN
Who cares? Obviously those who care enough to post such an innocuous reply to a legitimate (in Hollywood, anyway) news story.
Man the CW likes putting these people out in the public eye. Cause no one is watching their crappy show.
Who really cares, Gossip Girl is a has been TV show that will never take off.
Josh Schwartz was ignored at CAA and left for Endeavor. Hence, The OC and Gossip Girl. Enough said.
Ha- This guy is a star for only as long as his show stays on the air. He’s got about 10 minutes (maybe 8 minutes) left of his 15 Minutes of Fame. This guy is gonna go the way of the Coreys (Haim and Feldman) which is– just another pretty face that the girls
outgrow. (Zac Efron–also is in this same category).
Wow, pretty astute 23 year old when even he can realize the utter joke that ICM has become in the last few years. Or maybe it was obvious, seeing the flies swarm around a dead carcass that is the “new” ICM.
ICM pretty much deserves every bit of their recent (mis)fortune the way they treat their agents & employees like dirt. What did you THINK was going to happen, boneheads?
They should start focusing on the documentary market…like “How to Run a Company Into the Ground”, etc.
It’s hilarious watching this ICM slow-motion train wreck.
Glad to see a blue-eyed actor can still get some work these days.
Love how shows like 30 Rock and Gossip Girl get so much buzz within the industry but underperform in the ratings by almost any metric.
Chace needs to understand that there is a difference between fame and being able to open a movie. Paris Hilton is famous enough to be used in a republican attack ad but look how House of Wax did, look where Orlando Bloom’s career is, etc etc etc.
Now this shows how screwed up Hollywood is. The ratings of Gossip Girl are tied with a PBS documentary called “Fertilizer: Our Silent Friend in the Garden” yet if you listen to the media, you’d think it was the biggest thing in the history of television.
Yet here are all these agencies sniffing around and kissing up to someone like they’re the second coming of Clark Gable with a side of Cary Grant, when the reaction of the general public would be “who the heck is that guy?”
Maybe Hollywood folks should, you know, pay attention to the people who watch the TV shows and buy the tickets? They might know something the folks in Hollywood don’t.
Such nastiness directed at Crawford and Gossip Girl. And so unnecessary. The article is really about the rise and fall of ICM. And whether it’s illustrated in the transition of John Hamm or Chace Crawford is irrelevent. Many here are missing the point.
While I think this kid will have a limited career, still time to move from ICM. My dealings with them have been incredibly frustrating, and they act like they don’t give a sh*t.
“Gossip Girl” is an underrated show that it’s creative successes are primarily due to the writing. The real break out stars of the show are Leighton Meester and Blake Lively.
Taylor Momsen, Ed Westwick, and Penn Badgley round out the rest of the kids decently. But Chace? He is not an asset to the show. His acting is stilted. His character is bland and underwritten. It’s like he is the “Duncan Kane” of “Gossip Girl”. You wonder aside from looks why the girls on the show would be attracted to such a bland personality.
This dude better be grateful for what he has going on right now and not get too ahead of himself. If you ask hardcore teenybopper fangirls about Chace on the show you will see that he’s not important to the show’s success.
And as far as ratings are concerned, The CW is a mess. This show barely get’s 3 million a week, eventhough it’s the top downloaded iTunes show that is still LOW. It’s a shame they let “Veronica Mars” go when none of their followup shows have been mega hits.
Who is he to demand changing. CW show gets 1.2 ratings, doesnt’ he know that without some real long standing talent, they’ll use you him up faster than you can say Hilary Duff.
The teen market is fickle and a gold mine, so when it dries up, so do yoou. He bettert get into some acting classes and than try to get into a scorsese movie if he wants real clot. I swear, where has this business gone, when you report this as news. Anonymous was right.
“…now that his longtime agents there have left or been let go”
Anyone care to name names and lay down a timeline?
To – so there
You only watch Gossip Girl why? It could have been a better show had they focused on teenage life, not sex, drugs and parties.
I happen to like my shows with depth, shows that make you think, and make you go wow, they didn’t do that.
I watch Supernatural for your information. It is one of the best well acted, written and directed shows on the CW. Too bad Dawn doesn’t get it.
Gossip Girl will fade away like The OC did after 4 seasons if even that. Gossip Girl can’t even get 3 million viewers. *chuckles*
i have posted on this topic before. ICM is a sinking ship and the captain needs to figure out where bottom is because as soon as you think they’ve found it, they sink lower. there are a few good people left at ICM and even they are looking to jump because there is really no direction from the top…a shame really…and to preempt ICM HR monitoring the blog, i am not an agent from a competing agency
I KNOW FOR A FACT. THAT SEVERAL ICM MP AND TV TALENT AGENTS ARE WAITING FOR CONTRACTS TO END SO THEY CAN JUMP THE SINKING SHIP.
ICM took in Broder’s TV lit department, so that part is still among the strongest in town.
The ratings speak for themselves. These are the highest rated shows in America last week:
1. America’s Got Talent
2. Wipeout
3. So You Think You Can Dance (Wed)
4. So You Think You Can Dance (Thu)
5. Two and a Half Men
6. NFL Pre-Season
7. House
8. Old Christine
9. Family Guy
10. Primetime: Last Lecture
11. Big Brother (Sun)
12. Big Brother (Thu)
13. I Survived a Japanese Game Show
14. Big Brother (Tue)
15. The Simpsons
16. American Dad
17. Baby Borrowers
18. Celebrity Family Feud
19. CSI: Miami
20. Law & Order: SVU
Then we wonder why the Studios had no problem strong-arming the unions.
The best actors on Gossip Girl are Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick. But the real breakouts are Blake Lively, Leighton and even Taylor Momsen…but none of them have proven that they are box office gold. They have proven that they are tabloid gold on a pop culture heavy show. Chace is very bland on the show and I would be surprised if he turned into a big film star like Shia or Zac Efron.
These actors do not have the potential of January Jones or Jon Hamm on Mad Men.
People, wake up. You may think Gossip Girl is a terrible show and this or that CW show is much better. But the truth is: the show IS a hit by CW standards. OK, obviously it isn’t doing spectacularly on the ratings but it is an UBER seller in iTunes, gets lots of media coverage and much more buzz than every single other CW show. So whatever, they have no reason to cancel it or to cut the budget.
C’mon, TadAllagash, it is the dog days of summer and the networks are always reality-heavy at this time of year.
Gossip Girl is the best show!
well apart from skins ^_^
Gossip Girl is a GREAT show.
I LOVE HIM
