IATSE, whose General Executive Board last week named Craig Carlson -- the business agent of Chicago-based stage employees Local 2 -- to VP replacing Matt Loeb, made more appointments today:
NEW YORK , Aug. 5 – In his first executive move since being elected International President, Matthew Loeb has appointed two IA veterans to new positions. Effective immediately, Eighth International Vice President Michael F. Miller Jr, will take over Loeb’s former responsibilities as Division Director of Motion Picture and Television Production, continuing to be based at the IA’s West Coast Office in Toluca Lake. In the position, Miller will oversee all aspects of the International’s motion picture and television production operations in both the US and Canada, reporting directly to Loeb. In addition, President Loeb has appointed Dan Mahoney to the newly created position of Assistant Division Director of Motion Picture and Television Production. The IATSE is an International Union that represents members employed in the stagecraft, motion picture and television production, and trade show industries throughout the United States, its Territories, and Canada.

Great another group of nobodies from nowhere who will sell us out. There should be a rule that high ranking officers need to come from places that have work.
As we say in Chicago, “Plenty enough to go around.”
Really? Nobodies? Mike Miller has been running the west coast office of the IA for years. That office deals almost completely with issues facing studio employees.
He is a Short follower for sure, but the appointment was expected, and there is *some* hope that he might steer the International in a direction more representational of the west coast locals.
