Strike.TV is up and running. There was even a press breakfast about it held this morning with some of the participants, including CEO Peter Hyoguchi and CCO Ian Deitchman. It was formed in January 2008 during the writers strike as a way for top Hollywood writers, direcors and actors to exercise their independence from Big Media employers and create, control, profesionally produce, and distribute their own made-for-web original series and other programming. So far, its “Most Watched” product is writer Mary Feuer’s (Lonelygirl15, Dante’s Cove), series With The Angels, a fish-out-of-water story of a small town Arkansas girl swimming in the freak-infested waters of Venice in SoCal. And its “Highest Rated” show is Joe & Kate, written and performed by Joe Kelly (How I Met Your Mother) and Kate Purdy (Cold Case) about a couple living somewhere between dating and marriage.

Sounds like a wonderful idea, bring me more “Dr. Horrible’s Sing a long Blog!”
Is there a rule that when doing online content the characters have to talk to the camera? Why are you talking to me? StrikeTV while a nice idea is a pretty poor collection of “entertainment.” So I’m sure people will get big deals off of it so they can create more expensive suck that will never air on the real tv…
Are these “shows” supposed to be taken seriously? I only read the loglines but most of them sound terrible. Not exactly a good thing for their cause.
How are shows submitted for this thing?
Didn’t like everything, but overall great stuff! Can’t wait for more!
So how much are the writers, directors, actors and crew being paid for this. Are they all WGA, DGA, SAG, IATSE and Teamster productions? Isn’t it hypocritical if they are non-union in any way?
Horrible stuff, funny stuff not funny, I’ve seen better from High school kids on youtube. The Writer’s guild should not be proud of this. Sad, really. It ain’t exactly Arrested Development or Mad men.
I was totally unimpressed, to be honest. I was expecting a lot more. Great idea, great look to the site, poor quality of content.
The one show I really love is “With the Angels.” I will go back to see this one.
A little something for everyone. Bravo! As a writer who created on-line content during the strike I salute everyone who picked up a camera, called in their markers and made something happen. This is one of the reasons we were on the picket line for 100 days. And before anyone is critical of the look or style or content, I encourage you to try to do it yourself — with no money or studio or network behind you. Creating and owning your own content, without having to answer to anyone is freeing. And will help you remember why you started to write and create in the first place. So embrace your indie spirit and do what you love with those you love. 3WayTV.tv
Okay, Nancylee, I’ll take you up on your encouragement, to “…do it yourself.” And I did. Want to see? Check me out at http://www.thewriteenvironment.com/
