The young thesp from Into The Wild left UTA's Shani Rosenzweig after his Speed Racer opened dismally in May. The tenpercentery had repped Emile Hirsch for seven years. The actor from Alpha Dog and Lords Of Dogtown and The Girl Next Door and the upcoming Gus Van Sant Oscar-touted Milk. He just wrapped Ang Lee’s film Taking Woodstock. After leaving UTA, Hirsch was parked with his manager Sam Maydew and attoney Robert Offer. And now he's signed with Endeavor. I love Emile. He is extremely talented; however, he doesn’t have the appeal (yet) to carry a franchise or high budget production. I do believe that Shani should be credited in attempting to take him in the right direction (like Megan Silverman has done with Shia LaBeouf). Unfortunately, this particular movie did not have the returns as Shia’s movies have had.
Speed Racer was, is…not a very good movie!!! In fact, it is one of the worst films ever made, and this comes from a relentless fan of the original Japanese anime, which was inspired brilliance, having influenced a generation of animators worldwide, for over 40 years!!! In Hirsh’s case, sometimes, it is up to an actor, no matter the rep of the filmmakers or producers…whom they are dealing with on a production, to stand-up and challenge them when said production is not being executed properly!!! Emile Hirsh failed to do that, and chose to talk-up the Speed Racer film adaptation, during…and after the principal production, when it was obvious, at least to me, as it should have been with any onlooker, that this was a bad film in the making, not because of its subject matter, rather…due to the poor execution of that very subject matter!!!
I’ll point out to you that Zac Ephron tried out for Speed Racer, and Hirsh was chosen in place of him??? If you look at the ratings of High School: The Musical…and now the advanced theatrical ticket sales of the 3rd, and last, High School: The Musical movie, in fore sight, and hindsight, the producers of Speed Racer, as well as WB execs, should have picked the more appropriate actor for the role of Speed Racer, that being Zac Ephron, this from a physical perspective, in addition to financial considerations related to Ephron being in the position to attract the Disney audiences to the Speed Racer film, the same demographic Warner Brothers was looking for (something I have said prior to, and during the course of the production of the film). The fact that Warner failed to do so, is poor planning and simple reckless negligence on the part of the studio…and the same can be said of Emile Hirsh for not insisting that the material reflected in the Speed Racer live action adaptation be elevated to something much better than what was being filmed, this…considering the fact that his career and reputation was on the line!!! Now, he has lost much of the respect and goodwill he had been building-up for years…proving, sometimes you have to stand up and use your voice if your name is going to appear on a product, and in this case, the film…”Speed Racer”!!!
this kid is the same douche who asked for $3m to be in a $15m indie 2 weeks after speed racer bombed.
good actor, bad guy.
He should have gone to a place like ICM or even met others at UTA and remained. ICM is version 2.0 wth actual teamwork, taste and a knowledge of how to break stars (their loyalty after is another issue). Shani killed for him and did nothing “wrong” as for the failure of Speed Racer…that goes to Warner Brothers or the filmmakers. Why did he go to Endeavor anyways? He’s not going to be a priority. It is all about the chase for these reps (and the actors) – sad. Oh well.
yup, he is still a jerk
CONGRATULATIONS, Emile
I figured you wouldn’t remain a “free” Agent for long.
Elliot, why do you say what you do, about Emile?
He’s just asking what he thinks the market will bear, and what is current fee is …
Lighten up, LOL.
And, if Emile asked for too much, then … he’ll just be turned down and someone will go who can work for a cheaper rate. That’s Hollywood, dear!
My earlier comment didn’t take … I hope this one does.
Lighten up, Elliot!
Emile was only asking for what he felt he could demand, as a B-list star, which he now IS!
If he ever gets too demanding, then he’ll just be turned down, they’ll go with someone else who’ll work for a cheaper rate, and then he’ll learn.
That’s Holly-weird, for ya.
I think Shani R. kinda MADE him take the part of Speed, folks. She really pushed for E. to accept it.
That’s what I have heard anyway.
She dates the manager, marries him, divorces him, but is supposed to stay in business with the manager and Emile because she did nothing wrong? Who is Shani anyway? What is her talent? Did’nt she just kinda get lucky for a while? She deserves it. UTA deserves it. Emile needs some brains behind the operation. He doesn’t have one and Sam is, well, Sam. Endeavor will a least apply some smarts to the process.
Dudes, what IS this?
A TRASH-talk Fest against Shani, Emile, Sam and etc.?
Jesus Christ *Rolls Eyes*
WHAT gives?
I smell THINLY veiled ENVY, truth to told ……
Personal attacks are beyond pathetic……show yourself shaniwho and lets see how your life’s going. Emile will now have the same glorious career that he always wanted; Ed Norton the 2nd!!! Go get em Mr. Swardstrom
And I guess Emile will be receiving the same Endeavor smarts that pay agents with no clients $1m per? That’s what I thought!!
But at least he’ll have Mr. Swardstrom…and no one does schedule F better!!
Pride and Glory…something Emile and Shaniwho will never possess. Shani you’ve got it in spades darling!!
