Yah, his Steve Irwin Halloween “costume” was a real laff riot.
Maher is lame.
Mr. Maher appears to have a smarmy, arrogant “I’m so smart and cool” attitude about himself when he is, from my perspective, neither. More importantly, in so much of what he does there is a rude, vile, angry, unpleasant subtext that is more than off-putting. In truth, Mr. Maher is a sad and pathetic man whose comeuppance, when it comes as it inevitably will, will be well deserved.
To put it bluntly, Maher is a bigot – period. He paints all persons of faith, any faith, with a wide brush and then judges them negatively. The curious issue is why HBO tolerates bigotry. If David Duke were to produce a “comic” documentary about people of color, would HBO then offer him a talk show, too? Doubtful. But bashing Christians and Jews is just dandy and is promoted by HBO as acceptable, reasonable and responsible.
I canceled my HBO subscription last year because of all this. And, guess what – the earth still turns, the sun comes up and the sky didn’t fall. Besides, you can get any of the good HBO stuff from Netflix anyway.
Do you think if Sarah Palin was black she would be getting this much heat from the likes of Bill and others? They are all hypocrites.
Waaaaaaa! Quit picking on our dingbat! Waaaaaaaaa!
Comparing being black with being religious is like comparing apples and….corvettes – it doesn’t make sense. Following a religion is a choice and being born a particular race is simply the way you were born. Not comparable. Saying Maher is a bigot, and if you’d actually seen Religulous, like I have, Maher has civil discussions with the religious figures he interviews and really, really, asks them to explain why they believe what they believe. Yes, he questions them using logic, and if they can’t stand up to it, that’s not his fault. The movie is very funny, smart, well-produced, and thought-provoking. Sure, his HBO show is not for everyone – but neither is listing to Palin/McCain spread lies about Barack Obama. Notice that the film footage of Palin being blessed by the pastor who drove a supposed witch out of a Kenyan village – poor woman – he decided to blame her for traffic accidents happening in the area and convinced her neighbors to drive her out of the village (!) – isn’t being shown on the corporate media, but the Jeremiah Wright footage, filmed at times when Obama wasn’t in the church, was everywhere. As an atheist, I can only hope that one day I will be able to live in a civil, moral, free society unencumbered by superstition, governed by reason, logic, and science. There are more of us than you think.
Most of you need to remember Maher is an entertainer and for some of us he is entertaining. If you live a faith based life I could understand you not liking him. What is great about America is you have the right to choose to turn the knob off. Or better yet prove the rest of us “sinners” wrong. Prove without any doubt that there is a higher power. the problem is you can’t. So maybe you should call for censorship in gods name, thats real American
Rock on, Bill!! Bill Maher puts it out there in pple’s faces and tough if you don’t get it and/or can’t handle it!! At least someone’s courageous enough to speak the Truth!! Keep shining the Light in those Dark Places, Bill!! Lots of us love ya’!!:)
Ok Bill, admit it, you are really ET grown up and now uglier than when you charmed audiencies 26 years ago. It’s either that or the baby was thrown out with the bath water and the placenta evolved into your butt-ugly face. How sad it must be to look in the mirrow and have that thing look back at you. I think by criticising others it makes you feel better and you call that comedy. Please see a plastic surgeon and see if he can perform a miracle – good luck
I find it funny that people defend this guy. Apparently political correctness is like nightclub, if you’re not on the list then you’re not getting in the club. Why is okay for liberals to make racist remarks and stereotype any group simply because they think differently then they do. Think of this, tell a liberal that you are a vegetarian because you are a budist then the liberal shows you respect because he likes the idea for vegetarianism. Tell the same liberal that you are pro choice because you are a christian and they will get red in the face and tell you that you are backwards. I have canceled my HBO subscription not because of Bill Maher offends me, but because HBO allows this selective and hypocritical political correctness. This is company policy and not limited to Bill Maher.
How sad is it when Bill Maher can have his own American T.V show and call us Americans stupid and we still have his show on the air in America!!!Wake up and kick his anti-america but out of here!!!!
