The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced that they have formed a "strategic alliance" with the William Morris Agency to identify potential title partnership opportunities in the marketplace. The announcement was made by Dodger Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dennis Mannion. As part of the agreement, WMA will be granted the ability to formally approach potential partners for naming rights on various physical properties around Dodger Stadium, including several new areas that have yet to be built and are expected to be part of the franchise’s “Next 50” project, which is scheduled for completion in 2012. Naming rights to the actual stadium are not expected to be sold.

Boy, have the Dodgers made a bad decision. What expertise does William Morris have in this area? Again, it is obvious they are trying to take the focus off the major issues within the company by issuing some BS press release.
This is a perfect example of the kind of deal that makes WMA money and is currently the bread-and-butter of the agency. It’s also illustrative as to why getting Teresa Peters out wasn’t bad for the agency. Face it, people — WMA isn’t quite a talent agency anymore.
2 poorly run companies. Huh, this will be interesting. Free tickets and parking for WMA clients and employees? How about the $8 beer?
I smell a freaked out agency trying to give you something to try to turn the tide…and boy, this is a real game-changer…give me a break. Wiatt and his drones in the corporate consulting department love to spin out these deals, but if anyone would look at the history of these things with WMA, almost nothing has stemmed from them. Seriously, I would love for someone to look back at the announcements WMA has made over the past two years and look at how many have amounted to anything. Agency 2.0??? Starbucks??? Any fund Cassian has been part of??? Miami??? China???
These two have a lot in common…both losers. Dodgers are about to lose miserably to the Phillies and WMA continues to lose miserably to every other agency in town. Manny Ramirez is as big of a prick as everyone at WMA who thinks their shit doesn’t stink.
Some naming rights ideas:
Upper Mezzanine is now: “The eagle’s nest” (sponsored by Lens Crafter’s)
Bleachers are now “The Holding Tank” (sponsored by Chico’s Bail Bonds in association with A&E’s “Dog The Bounty Hunter”
Box Seats above dugout: Willie Morris Way.
Behind Home Plate: “Billionaires Cove” (sponsored by the U.S.Treasury dept.)
I’m sure they’ll have Phillip Button oversee the business. He’s such a strategist. I am sure he’s promised the world. He’ll deliver zippo – nothing – nada. Guy is about as smart as a bat. I don’t think he could figure out how to get to third base without a map and directions. Actually, not sure if he could read directions. Big Blue – if you are paying a retainer, RUN. RUN FAST.
Was Smoller the mastermind behind this idiotic deal? Sorry Dodgers, you’ve been duped.
Word on the street is that this stemmed from Frank McCourt’s love of the entertainment biz and William Morris. Dennis Mannion does not want an agency, especially one that has zero credibility in sponsorship, representing the Dodgers. Big problems over at Chavez Ravine, despite their winning ways this season.
Not to stick up for WMA, but they do rep the NFL as well as many other top 100 companies in their consulting division.
BTW… does End. hire entires to leave comments here?
