Jon Hamm was wonderful on SNL last night. Who knew he did impressions? Here’s the skit about “Don Draper’s Guide To Picking Up Women”:

Wow, I thought it was actually one of the worst SNL’s in memory. The writers can barely manage a good sketch or two under normal circumstances but now that NBC is putting a 30 minute SNL Thursday show the writing (besides Palin spoofs) is dreadful. They do get points for last minute craziness because Poehler’s stuff had to be axed when she went into labor Friday night.
@ nyguy:
Nope, your wrong, Nikki’s right. It was a terrific show. Hamm’s James Mason impression was spectacular. It’s all of the recent shows leading up to this that were crummy. Although I thought giving Coldplay so much time sucked big time. How long before U2 sues those guys for ripping off their sound? Christ, they even hired Brian Eno to produce the new CD!
Hamm was the best host this season. Better than overrated Anne Hathaway. Better than the other medicore hosts.
There’s been talk about Hamm hosting again. I hope he does, but he has to boost his profile a little before he gets another hosting gig. Ala Alec Baldwin. And look how he turned out. The best SNL Host, IMO.
Worst political sketch from SNL this season.
Coldplay gets to play 4 songs? Please save me….
But the real test begins for Seth Meyers now.
Amy’s gone, can he carry Weekend Update by himself?
Will his jokes just be lame as always or get worse?
I say losing Amy is the beginning of the long downward spiral for SNL.
Loved the show too… but wished they hadn’t wasted the MAD MEN sketch like that… I would have rather had PAT or THE CHURCH LADY walk through that door then those two…
SNL has blown for years, and all this recent publicity only highlights their diminishing returns (and please…Fey: go away).
As for Mad Men, it killed its first season, but last night’s finale was pretty weak — I smell a one-trick pony.
An uneven show, but I died laughing twice:
- his portrayal of James Mason;
- “Jon Ham”
PS Kristina Wiig is pure gold — someone package a movie around her!
January Jones and Elisabeth Moss better get some recognition by The Golden Globes. They both did some incredible work this season, as did Christina Hendricks and Vincent Kartheiser.
I have to agree with Nikki. SNL has been on something of a roll recently, and this one is the first I’ve seen in a while where it was a) short, b) on point, and c) had a solid ending. Their writing and performing is generally good, but without those three they tend to meander into blah. This one rocked.
Season finale was one of the best episodes of television I’ve ever seen…oh man…
For me it was a terrific show.
Jon Hamm was great. But Will Forte as the creepy sexual offender in that early sketch… BRILLIANT!
The second season Mad Men finale was one of the best tv episodes in years. The Art Direction in particular, is flawless. Kudos for achieving the best period continuity ever seen in Hollywood.
I thought it was a very good episode. Jon Hamm was a great host. I would expect to see him again. James Mason was “gold”
