UPDATE: The newly edited by NBC “Bailout” skit that ran on SNL is live online now.

Reediting the skit and put it back up isn’t going to help NBC at all. I expect NBC to get criticism for caving into the legel aspects of this. Becouse the parady was legitmate. I didn’t President Bush complaining about it? No. But Herbet and Marion Sandler and George Soros have been drawn up into limelight and who knows perhaps thier angles of the bailout will be exposed. Alec Balwin who was on Bill Mahr’s HBO show came criticized his party and well it times for more of u out there to raise your voices of rage. Becouse it cuts across all political lines.
But NBC shouldn’t have taken down the video.

Just like the meida protecting the Democrats again, can’t you guys treat everyone the same. If your not going to do it to one party then don’t do it to the other.

I don’t understand. Were the Sandlers defamed by the skit for being shown to be greedy unscrupulous people? Was Soros defamed for being shown to be the financier of the illiberal organizations? Or was NBC suddenly made aware of the fact that there’s a danger in making fun of the rabid left? There was no such problem with skewering Gov. Palin on SNL, and if she wasn’t defamed, I don’t know what the word means.

A little fact-checking never got in the way of the Right Wing. While not vouching for Wachovia, based on a conversation with a former, longtime World Savings loan dept. employee, World, when owned by the Sandlers, did not make subprime loans. While World did make option/ARM loans, it did so based on real appraisals and real credit scores. World also held onto its loans. It did not bundle them to be resold on the market. Bundles of bad loans were one of the precipitating causes of our current financial crisis.
While watching the SNL skit in real time, my first thought was of the defamation action the Sandlers may have against NBC.

Believe what you want, but this is as creditable as the need for the $700B to bailout us Americans! That was a lie, and so is this need to ‘edit’ that more than poignant skit. I think SNL writers thought it was funny. What was funny was just how TRUE to life the skit was.

What a bogus excuse. They can’t be sued, parody is protected under the first amendment and a lot of case law.

So the network declared that the skit “did not meet its standards.” I understand that to mean that it usually only bashes republicans/conservatives/Christians, and they know that those groups will not sue as they truly understand what freedom of speech means. The loons on the left, now that is a whole other story.
I really did enjoy the sketch, especially the part where George Soros was identified with Moveon.org as “Owner, Democratic party”. Seems like SNL had a sudden rush of brains to the head and also got a sense of fairness temporarily. Would be great if it continued, but I think the left-wingers who run NBC will stop that fairness nonsense.

==It was a lawsuit waiting to happen. Because SNL labeled Herb Sandler and his wife Marion, the real-life former owners of Oakland’s Golden West Financial (aka World Savings), as “people who should be shot” and accused them of predatory lending that brought down Wachovia Bank even though no charges have been filed.==
It still could happen cuz it was up, and that is “publication,” an element of libel. That NBC took it down doesn’t relieve it of that responsibility. Publication happened, and that’s all you need, even if the “victims” could be labeled “public figures” and actual malice is in play.
Not only that, but republishing the libel, if it is a libel, puts the republisher in jeopardy of liability action.

Satire is well-established as protected Free Speech. NBC’s “legal” excuse is simply a made-up reason to censor content that is critical of well-known American left-wingers, all of whom are public figures anyway. Just more evidence of the MSM’s being “in the tank” for Obama and Democrats. I applaud SNL for running a piece on Democrat complicity in our current economic woes and showing that making fun of Democrat corruption can be hilarious. I’d suggest Letterman, Leno, et al give it a try once in a while.

Fact is, with NBC/MSNBC so low in the ratings and plummeting due to their catering to the far Left fringes in this country – by starting to show reality and balance, it indicates a business decision.
See, the vast majority of Americans are far more conservative. We are not the kook fringes that somehow make it to celebrity status with a fringe of followers.
They are on their way to bankruptcy by going the Olbermann, Matthews, Maddow route, just to name a few of the Left Wingers over in that nuthouse.

NBC screwed up and they were (initially) right to yank that sketch. Saying that private citizens “should be shot”, no matter how corrupt they are, is a call for lynch justice and does not belong on the air. Even bloggers know better than that.
You wish this was just a comedy skit….By-the-way,how does the saying go? For something to be funny, it has to be truthful?

Just shows to go you, I was thrilled to see equal time for others in power who are culpable. Thank you S.N.L. for hitting it dead on.

You mischaracterize the exchange between Bush, Pelosi, and Frank. Bush indeed says what you quote him saying, but it’s Pelosi who speaks next, denying Bush’s accusation. It’s then that Frank jumps in to say that Bush is “actually sort of right” about it, only to have Pelosi whisper back, “Shhh…he doesn’t know.”
I’m so thrilled that NBC is being so careful about not offending anyone who may have been responsible for this bailout mess (i.e. Frank, the Sandler’s (crooks), Pelosi, et.al). God knows we wouldn’t want NBC to hurt the chances of their chosen candidate Barry.

Censorship! NBC wants to censor this skit so as not to lay blame for the Financial Meltdown on sub-prime loans pushed by Democrats and Obama. Corruption at Fannie Mae was shielded by Obama and Democrats because they were getting fat contributions from Fannie Mae, and because their friends were running Frannie Mae.
The Fannie Mae angle is being suppressed by the Obama loving “tingly legged” Main Stream Media.
Funny how the left is always telling us to “chill.” Maybe the left should take it’s own advice.
Soros is always ‘johnny on the spot’ to complain. NBC (includes MSNBC) is the ‘house organ’ of the Obama campaign, and the secondary outlet — after the NYT — for the Dems. My guess is the multiple Obamanation members at NBC went nuts when they saw the skit, and started shooting memos around.
Some times “sketch comdey” hits too close to home, and the ‘powers that be’ don’t like it.

You mean the politically far left have a problem with the truth. What’s the matter? It’s a FOIA and Freedom of Speech issue. SNL has long lambasted the Conservative movement vigorously, now when suddenly they slip and bash the “good guys”, everyone has a problem?
Give me a break!

I just have to ask this “Bailout Skit” didn’t meet the standards of NBC/SNL but accusing Mr. Pailin of incest does? In those famous words of Led Zepplin… “oooohhh it makes me wonder???”
Bout time someone called it like it is. To think that this wasn’t taken down by the elitist libs is a travesty, but not suprising. I’m surprised that the liberal ‘writers’ on this website actually posted anything resembling the truth by sharing Malkin’s quote. Maybe some of you do have balls after all. Coulda fooled me.

Obama cannot tolerate criticism and neither can the democrats. At least, the republicans take their best shots in good humor. Not so the left wingers.
Big surprise. Meanwhile go ahead and have a skit where you accuse Todd Palin of having sex with his own kid.
Oh wait, you already did that…
Hypocrites. That’s all the networks are anymore Democrat run hypocrites.
What a shame.
Chill what? Sounds like Malkin was dead on. There were legal issues and legal threats.
