I’m planning another piece on NBC for Sunday. But for now it’s fascinating to watch the network squirm.. Will BBC Worldwide America’s Paul Telegdy become EVP over just unscripted entertainment? Is Telegdy pushing to now or eventually be given a bigger job? Will NBC’s current reality czar Craig Plestis get shown the door despite Ben Silverman’s assurance? Will Jeff Zucker reup Silverman or could Ben decide to quit instead? What will happen to Katherine Pope, Teri Weinberg, Jeff Gaspin and Bonnie Hammer? One source today said it best: “NBC is a real mess.”

Get Ben Silverman to wear a fake goatee as his own “evil twin” “Ken” Silverman and I think we’ve got a hit.
While perusing TV Guide yesterday (which has been riddled with anti-McCain and anti-Palin drivel for weeks btw), I had to laugh when I saw the top ten programs. Five were CBS. Four were ABC. One was FOX. None were NBC.
Perhaps it’s time for General Electric to simply shut NBC down.
It was only five days ago that I, unlikelytohappen, first predicted that class act Craig Plestis would be going nowhere, and I have been proven right. Looks like Ben Silverman has figured out what I have been saying all along. Plestis is here, and here to stay. And for good reason…he remains a straight shooter and a pleasure to work with. He is going nowhere.
Terri will be fired. She should be. She does not belong there. Why would they reup Ben? Because he is rich and knows a lot of people and they want to be friends with him. Good reason.
Australia’s Nine Network is a pretty good soap opera, too. Used to be the crowning glory Down Under, now it’s a complete disaster. It’s like everyone running the place lost 100 IQ points in one quick swoop. Christine Spiteri, the LA correspondent for Nine a while back was let go because she was told “You’re just not f#$@-able enough.”
Wonder if NBC can beat that one?
Just remember that Jeff Zucker stays no matter how bad things get.
He wants to be the next Michael Eisner, Mickey Drexler or Carly Fiona in the “overstayed my welcome” executive club.
Of course, all those executives actually did actually have some successful years at the helm. Not something Jeff can actually speak to…
You want nbc stupidity, do some research on what they just did to their Sendmerss web users. Totally screwed them.
If you think Plestis is a straight shooter and a pleasure to work with then you must be just as crazy as he is. Try being in one of his meetings where he will start yelling and screaming like a 2 year old for no apparent reason. Craig is a horse tooth jackass who is a loose cannon and a grade A jerk off. NBC and reality TV in general will be better off without him.
But Nikki, have you been watching One Life To Live lately? Tess has Natalie and Jared locked in a secret room in the basement of Llanfair, Starr is pregnant and Todd is about to bed down with his amnesiac gang-rape victim, Marty. Oh, and Cain kidnapped Tina’s dog, Princess David Vickers. Now that’s what I call soap opera.
It’s not just NBC Entertainment. The whole place is fucked up, including TV Stations, Publicity, Theme Parks, Home Entertainment and even IT and Finance!
All executive leadership needs to go – especially Zucker, Silverman, Calpeter, Wallace and Eck. They’re running what used to be a great company straight into the ground. Plestis is not the problem.
Immelt…. get your head on straight and hand out a few pink slips!
unfotunately, when they tried this as a TV show, Studio 60was no fun at all. 30 Rock, however, is lots of fun. So perhaps it’s better as a sitcom (perhaps a soapy sitcom? Jeff Zucker, Jeff Zucker)
plestis’ demise has been on ben’s radar since he took the reigns. they had an acrimonious relationship, at best, when he was running reveille. he was just looking for the right moment and big bang replacement.
we all know that word inside is that Ben is a no-show and Teri is a no-do. replacing plestis may be a thing to do but this fish rots from the head. zucker is lucky to keep his job but if he’s smart, he’ll get rid of BS and crew and bring in real programmers instead of falling for empty flash.
Is unlikelytohappen Craig (see above)
Except for a race I viewed a week ago, I can not think of any NBC programing I’ve watched in over a year. By the way the presentation and content of the sportscar race stunk. So if NBC folded tomorrow it wouldn’t be missed. Not at all.
CLEAN HOUSE – Silverman, Weinberg, Graboff, Ingold, Plestis, Hansen, Dinsmore, the studio (except maybe Pope) and especially ZUCKER.
Go with people who like ideas, not deals, and will get a good creative idea when they see one (or at least recognize a bad one).
Hey what do you get when you change the first letter of Jeff Zucker’s last name from “Z” to “F”?
Zucker has really F***** NBC so badly that it’s a better network to read about than watch!
After working on and off for 20years @ NBC, i have come to the conclusion that Zucker and gang have steered this ship with Titanic conclusions.
I watch while ‘quality’ is derided and bufoonery lauded. Tartikof once told me on stage 9: “Talent will always shine, crap just stinks”.
Zucker has opted for the latter and guess why NBC is in the toilet?.
I used to be proud as a peacock walking onto the lot each morning, now, even the lot is disapearing.
Beyond sad…
