UPDATE: I’ve confirmed now. Season 8 of what I consider the best of the Law & Order series was supposed to debut on November 7th. But last night the rumor on the set was that that Criminal Intent is postponed until sometime in 2009 on the USA Network. And, yes, the show is now delayed until first quarter of next year. CI has certainly undergone a lot of change in recent months: showrunner Warren Leight left to run HBO’s In Treatment and two Law & Order vets took his place — Walon Green exec producing the 8 episodes starring Vincent D’Onofrio, and Robert Nathan exec producing the episodes starring newcomer Jeff Goldblum. So here was USA’s thinking: First, the network had great success pairing CI with In Plain Sight last summer, so now USA wants to find another compatible series to be CI‘s partner. And USA also was looking for an uninterrupted period of time to air the series, and that’ll be first quarter 2009.

Is this an official announcement from USA network? Why no confirmation on their website, also ads are still showing the Nov.7th start date. Please give your opinion on why the show is being delayed until 2009. Thankyou.
Oh no! And I’m with you on this one Nicky. No doubt the best of the franchise.
That’s weird. I’m already seeing the commercials for it. I was really looking forward to Jeff being on it. It’s the only one I watch too. (despite having to trip over their trailers when they film in my neighborhood every month) Vincent D’Onofrio’s character is, I think, the best depiction of someone battling to keep their sanity on TV. He’s brilliant but in a realistic way, not that TV way.
I’m guessing it has to do with the mandated NBC Universal budget cuts…
Gee, Vinnie couldn’t be pulling another time-wasting stunt, could he? Anyone remember the “breakdown” he had when Bush got elected last time? That lead to Chris Noth joining the show to do half the episodes. While I enjoy Vinnie as an actor, he sure knows how to play the diva more than any female costar he’s had.

Bonnie Hammer is not a viewer friendly executive. Whether that’s a good or bad thing, I don’t know. But she makes decisions without the audience’s happiness in mind.

CI is my favorite of the group and was looking forward to seeing it sooner. Goldblum? Goldblum? I don’t see this one working out.

Hey Cheryl – If CI was on NBC again, it wouldn’t be! NBC did not promote the show at all and then wondered why the ratings weren’t as good as SVU. I’m sorry you can’t get CI but it is much, much better off running on USA. They appreciate the show and the actors. Especially, Vincent, the best actor in the world!
Is anyone going through withdrawal over missing the best detedtive show on tv? I have been watching Bobby and Eames since day one, and none of the other shows can claim the intensity these 2 charactors create. NBC and USA have really blown themselves up not putting this show on the air. The original L&O has none of the charactors left from when they first aired, SVU can say the same. Yes, CI has had a few changes, but bobby and eames are the original pair and prove they are in one mind set. The stories and plots are worked out like real detectives. Hopefully, Jeff will work out with Julianna. She needs a partner that isn’t afraid to let her take the lead. Please give me my weekly dose of CI. You’ve even stopped running repeats on a regular schedule so that’s even hard to find! When????????
Can anyone tell me why Seasons 4 thru 7 is not on DVD yet? Most other TV series have already brought out their recent seasons. Why is Law and Order: Criminal Intent not releasing anymore seasons on DVD? Inquiring minds would like to know!!
I’ve got a friend who’s going to go postal over that. I’m not so happy about it myself…I’ve been looking forward to Season 8 for months.
