When your soundtrack isn't even completed much less released (not until November 4th), yet it's already in the Top 5 Best-Selling Albums on Amazon based on pre-sales alone, you know you have a hit. When Borders makes an exclusive calendar and sells out the first printing in a matter of days, you know you have a hit. And when the new trailer to your movie surpasses 3.5 million views less than 48 hours after its online debut, you know you have a hit. Which is why Summit Entertainment's CEO Rob Friedman is already readying a Twilight sequel -- even though the vampire tween/tween movie isn't set for release until November 21st which is the date vacated by Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. Oh, and did I mention that Twilight has the fastest selling licensed merchandise since -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter?
But the comparison with Harry Potter ends at cost: Twilight came in at only a $37 million negative cost. This notion of a low-cost blockbuster for a start-up studio just doesn't happen often in the film biz. So if the movie lives up to the advance hype, Summit will be sitting on a big new franchise. How big? Well, the new Twilight trailer played with Quarantine this weekend and as soon as the title came up, a chorus of high-pitched screams of joy emanated from the women in the audience in one Southern California theater. Only to be properly drowned out by a loud chorus of male boos. It's conventional wisdom that boys won't go because there's not enough gory fang action. But Summit is also marketing to an online contingent called Twilight Moms because of the chaste love story set in the picturesque locale of Oregon and directed by thirteen's Catherine Hardwicke. Still, I think Summit is lowballing by hoping for a $20M North American opening weekend from 3,500+ venues.
Like Potter, Twilight has a built-in audience of book fans with, a total 7.5 million domestic sales for all four Stephanie Meyer novels in the series which was a New York Times #1 bestseller for 59 weeks. Not to mention big sales overseas like Italy, Germany and the UK. That's one reason Twilight is opening day and date in 10 territories, including the U.S.
Summit may spend in the high $30sM for P&A. That's a bargain consider skyrocketing marketing costs in the movie biz. That's because indies these days must spend more efficiently than studios by not just attracting long lines at Comic-Con but almost solely relying on My Space and other social networks instead of costly TV ads. Look, for example, at how Summit rolled out the new trailer. First, Nancy Kirkpatrick (one of the best in the biz) heightened fan anticipation by creating a countdown clock to the widget. Then came the trailer's free debut on Entertainment Tonight. That night, Summit gave fans a special opportunity to see it online first as a way of thanking them for their support. The trailer was streamed through Twilight's widget from 8 PM to 9 PM for fans, then debuted for the general audience in HD on MySpace Trailer Park at 9 PM. The result: 2 million views in the first 24 hours on MySpace alone and 3.5 million views in cyberspace within the first 48 hours.
i don’t think anyone other than 14yr old girls want to see this…
I suppose its not the first time so much money and effort has been wasted on such horrendous writing.
I myself being a man have no problem admitting I like the Twilight series though I loathed myself a little due to it being aimed at a younger audience. That movie is going to make such a profit it’s not even funny.
20 million…no way. It will have a HUGE opening.
I am not in the movie biz, but there are 6-10 people in my office alone who want the day off to go to an early matinee. They each know 1-2 other people who want to see it then also.
We are all 21-35…so that is not even counting the tweens and teens that will overflow the theatres.
I’m curious to see how the movie does, given a lot of fans’ reaction to the characterizations in the last book and its no-longer-chaste content.
But then, I’m amazed at the fan passion for the series. I picked up the first book on the recommendation of a friend and was so bored I barely finished it. I see a lot of movies, especially genre ones, but I’ll definitely skip this one in the theaters rather put up with squealing tweens.
It’s going to be huge. People who have never read the book are underestimating the fandom.
I’m a 37 yr old mom and I know other 30 something friends who love the books/series and are dying to see the movie. So for it to open in the 20 million is an understatement…it’s going to be huge!
Not to pick (and I don’t know where the movie was shot) but it is SET in a locale in Washington, not Oregon — namely, Forks, a small town on the Olympic Peninsula, which is currently seeing a huge TWILIGHT-related tourist boom.
I am a huge Twilight Series fan and I am 22. I am not ashamed to say it and I am very excited that they have decided to Pick up New Moon for production! I think this will be a very popular and great franchise, like it isn’t already, and these actors can show even more of their wonderful talent.
The only thing I ask is that they please keep the original cast. I absolutely hate it when the switch the cast members! I personally know some of the actors who will be staying so I hope they don’t change anyone because that will be a major disappointment.
We need another book series to take over for POTTER & CO. This must be at least a $30M opener. I’m somewhat curious but it looks alittle dull. But pretty young vampires doing vampire things seems to be the rule of the day (whether they suck blood or not).
After reading your entry, I watched both teaser trailers. It looks like something the Sci-Fi Channel would run on a Sunday afternoon! At least it’s nice to see the Pacific NW being used as a backdrop, but that’s about it.
I don’t believe that it is simply 14 yr old girls that want to see these movies. I am 20 and in a book club that consists of girls 18-40 that are in love with the book. My boyfriend even loves the books… so it won’t bee just teeny boppers there…
I can’t wait for this to come out! I’m 19 and i’ve loved this book series since twilight came out! My boyfriend is a fan of the series too so atleast one boy will be seeing it : )
I’m 20 as well, and I enjoy the books. Though they are not the greatest fiction, they are addicting and fun read. I’m very excited for the films, and i find it hilarious that Summit is low-balling it for 20 mil. Lowest I can see would be 50 million, and with the budget 37 mil, of course they would go to the next sequel.
I do admit though, Summit needs to get some of these previews on the Television, there are still many whom have not heard of this film as of yet, So we’ll just have to see.
But I know there is a fan base, I was astonished when I saw a 40 woman on transit reading it, it proved to me that this film could be bigger than I thought.
I’d like to say I recently dealt with a small management company called THE MAK COMPANY. I believe this is a future powerhouse. They treated me, a no name writer with dignity. Just wanted to give them a shout out.
Im a 32 yo mum of 4 kids and married for 12
I LOVE TWILIGHT and am sooooo excited to see this film and cant wait for the next film…
I BOW TO CATHRINE H she is a legond
I am in my thirties and I am a big fan of the books and really looking forward to the movie.
I have passed the books along to some of my friends in my age group and everybody have loved them. As far as the audience for the movie goes, I believe it will be definitely mostly female but it will include every single age group.
I´m 27 and i´ll to see Twilight at least 5 times ^^
This will likely be a profitable (here defined simply as grosses exceeding production and P&A costs – not participation agreement profitable) film, but no one should confuse this with a giant B.O. winner.
It smells like a “Hulk”-type of performance in regards to audience attrition. If it’s 2nd weekend loses less than 65% of the first, I will be surprised.
Well, I’m 31, and yes, if it wasn’t opening on Black Friday I would be at the midnight showing. Just because these books are aimed at tees, doesn’t mean the “rest of us” do not completely enjoy them. For some of us trapped in our day to day lives, these books were an escape into an alternate reality. For many women my age, these books have even brought a new spark into their marriages, and if you don’t believe me, go look it up yourself. There are several websites dedicated to these books set up by women my age and older, including my own Myspace site. There are plenty of movies out there that I won’t go see this year, and I’m sure to some people, those movies are what they have been waiting to see. My point is, one needs to give everything a chance, and not judge a book by it’s cover, a movie by it’s trailer, or an alternate reality by a large portion of it’s fan base. I also read the Harry Potter books and found them fascinating as well. You people that think this is just something that only teenagers will like also need to consider something else–7.5 million copies of these books sold means a lot of kids are off the streets and reading again, and as a mother I am going to support that ideal as best I can.
Everyone in the fandom knows that there are people who are not into Twilight and would not even consider maybe reading the book or watching the movie first before making any comments but like almost all Twilighters, people are underestimating the fandom.
Im a 30 yr old mom and I loved the books. And will love the movie. Hope they will make all the books into movies. To those who are so decisively against Twilight, here’s an word of advice:”Stop posting! No one wants to hear your whining…”
I have never read Twilight, but I will go see the movie just to get the taste of the dreck that is TRUE BLOOD out of my mouth. ANY Vampire story would be superior to that crap.
And I hope TWILIGHT will be done with some class and smarts, two things TB is missing as well.
On one hand I’m thrilled. For a start up like Summit to have such a potential franchise smash hit on their hands of this size (something a post Lord Of The Rings New Line never managed) less than a year after they opened their doors is incredible.
I really hope that Summit can build on the success that Twilight brings them. Now, more than ever, we need another place for people to take their work.
And with New Line Cinema reduced to nothing more than a filing cabinet in some itnerns cubicle at Warners Summit are perfectly positioned to be the edgy, interesting place that New Line once was all those years ago.
On the other hand… this film looks hideous. From the trailers it looks like some cheap Toronto shot pilot that The CW passed on.
I realise that this isn’t a film aimed at me (a man in his 30’s) but even still.
Blargh.
This is going to be absolutely huge, especially due to the repeat viewing appeal it has to the huge obsessive fanbase.
Although, they should make it a trilogy – the fourth book was awful and would make a terrible film.
HELLO???!! 14 YR OLD GIRLS? WTF?! IM 22 AND ID KILL TO SEE THIS MOVIE! ITS NOT A TWEEN MOVIE, THERE ARE A LOT OF OLDER FANS! ITS LIKE SAYING MOST OF MILEY CYRUS’S FANS ARE UNDER 13, NO, NOT MOST OF THEM, SOME OF THEM SURE, BUT THEY ALL HAVE OLDER FANS! THATS JUST STEREOTYPING!
I Love the way they say about the opening day being in 10 countries. yeah, not at the same flipping time! the uk get it in december! thats just not fair! eh, i might well download it then lol naaa who am i kidding, i’ll see it on cinema, 5times! lol
I know 35 people coming to watch the movie on its premier on the 21st :p (friends and officemates ages: 18-25). That’s just me, think about the number of people who’ll tag along XD
Twilight’s not just popular in the US and in European countries. The LOVE for the Twilight Saga is evident here in Asia as well ^^
13-year-old girls?
I’ll be 40 in 2 months. I’m there.
And it appears I might have my 15-year-old son hooked on the books, as well.
Twilight is ageless.
We’ll show all of those naysayers.
And I look forward to all the follow-up movies!
Twilight should do great business for the first week or two, and then disappear. Honestly, no movie can live up to the expectations of the fangirls. And the general audience won’t care enough.
I borrowed the first book from a friend’s 12 yr old daughter and I must admit I felt a little foolish. However, I am now absolutely addicted. I can’t wait for the movie. I just hope it lives up to my expectations.
I think everyone, including all the naysayers and “experts” are underestimating the demographic, the appeal and the opening numbers. While the fandom is, by far female, it is NOT teens and tweens only. Many 20, 30, 40 and over women love the series as much as, if not more than, many of our daughters!!! (Call it a case of midlife lust for youth and romance). That being said, there is a growing number of male fans who are anxious to see this movie too!! Are the numbers comperable to SPIDERMAN or IRONMAN, in terms of fanboy adoration? No. But a fair number began reading the books because their girlfriends, sisters, mothers, wives all got hooked and they were tired of being TWILIGHT widowers. And Summit has amped up the action and suspense based on the things Bella doesn’t necessarily witness, but is alluded to behind the scenes.
I hope the opening numbers are gigantic!!! And I hope it’s seen as the little movie with the big heart proving the cynical studio heads, critics and “blog experts” who have been so quick to judge, wrong.
Do I expect the critics to love it? No. Critics don’t like fantasy in general, and the smaller budget will be an issue in the effects department. But the true test will be the translation of the romance on the screen and the chemistry between Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. That’s why we fell in love with these characters to begin with.
I hate to burst everyone’s bubble…but “squealing teens” are not the only people lining up to see this movie. In fact, I think the adults are sort of taking over…and we don’t squeal nearly as loud.
In my office alone (granted, we’re mostly female…but we’re Twilight mad) our boss has finally issued a memo saying no more leave will be granted for November 21st. “There has been an unusually high number of annual leave requests for this date. I am afraid at this time we cannot grant any additional requests.” HA! Good thing I put in for mine a week ago.
Yes…we’re all adults…aged 19 to 57…and we’ll be there…along with some husbands/boyfriends. And no, my boyfriend is not going kicking and screaming…he actually finally read the book and is looking forward to it. It will definitely be an estrogen-filled fest, though, I am sure.
I think they have a problem with New Moon. The book’s middle section only focuses on Bella and Jacob so Robert Pattinson who plays Edward wont appear for the vast majority of the film. If they stick religiously to the book a lot of Pattinson fans (already excited to a frenzy by Twilight) will be disappointed. Hardicke the director really needs to make sure she has more slack to go off book. Throw in another plot to cover Edward and the Cullens when they are away from Forks. Even better spend a bit more money and have more footage filmed in Italy. Show Edward with the Volturi in Italy. Some atmospheric catacomb scenes would work well. That of course requires a bigger budget but I think they need to shake that book up if they are to sustain momentum. I hope Hardwicke does some location scouting when she and the lead actors of Twilight hit the Rome Film festival later this month.
I’m 30 years old, and I adore the Twilight series. I demanded my friends to read the books, and I am bringing as much people as possible to see the movie in the theathers. If other fans are behaving like this, you can count on a huge box office.
I hope Nancy Kirkpatrick please get Rob Pattinson to shave. I’m really not going off topic here. If she’s one of the best in the business she’ll understand that the gorgeous lead actor known for his formidable jawline needs to look good when doing pr. Yet for his recent interview e.g E online he’s unshaven and a bit of a mess. Young girls and women immediately screamed merry hell on you tube saying they hated his look. It seems madness to not try and live up a little to the look in the film so the PR people need to get him to shave and dress reasonably for the Rome Film Festival and the New Hollywood Award that he’s receiving later this month. Its common sense not to burst young girls dreams before the film has come out.
If you don’t like the book or the movie stop complainig. I love the book and I’m sure allot of others do to. Wo don’t need yoer feisty criticism in places where it’s not needed. Twilight is gong to be an amazing movie and I’m sure it will live up to the book, and the rest to follow!!
Ok I am almost 22 years old and I LOVE the Twilight saga. I agree with Rebecca in the fact that I am not ashamed to say that I loved these books. I couldn’t put them down when I started reading them. I know a lot of people older than 14 that want to see this movie. I’m in college and a lot of my friends loved the books and are super excited for the movie to come out. This movie is going to be huge. My boyfriend is going to see the movie too and it’s not just because I want to go see it. He hasn’t read the books but he has seen all three trailers and he thinks the movie actually looks interesting. Don’t judge a book by its cover people. If you haven’t really read the books, try picking them up. The writing is wonderful. Plus, give Stephenie Meyer some credit. These are her first novels. So of course, they’re not going to be absolutely perfect. But for first novels, they are pretty amazing. Also, give the movie a chance. Don’t just pass it off as a stupid tween movie cuz that’s not what this movie is.
The fanbase has gone well beyond the teen market. Older women are really attracted to the film because of Robert Pattinson. Its meant to be about a 17 year old but Pattinson in real life comes across as a hot and quirky up and coming actor (being compared to Depp because of his work in other roles e.g Salvador Dali in Little Ashes). I dont think when Hardwicke chose Pattinson they realised the older female fans would latch on. They themsleves probably thought it was a teen flick. New Moon is a tricky book to film given that the main draw is absent for 3/4 of it. A bit of a headache for Hardwicke and the scriptwriter. The middle portion of the book dips badly while you wait to see what happens to Edward Cullen.
I don’t think people are taking into account the repeat business this movie will do. No true Twihard will only see this movie once. My friends are each banking on seeing it 3 times in the first weekend.
it bugs me that twilight fans can be so obnoxious that it makes other people not want to read the series or see the movie. they are great books and im sure the movie will be pretty good, but people dont give it a chance
I’m 25 and I am absolutely obsessed about this series. I can’t wait for the movie to come out. My bf has never read the books but he offered to go see it with me and my brother also. So, they’ll be at least 2 guys in the movie theater that day hahaha.
I’m part of the 25+ yr old group and I know there’s going to be hundreds of us seeing this movie. We’re already under way on planning our movie premiere parties nationwide. I think it’s great they’ve made a movie that fits for all age groups.
I am excited about a sequel! I’m 20 and in college, and I am in love with these books as are all of my friends, girls in my classes, etc. I certainly don’t think that it is only teenage girls who are into it as I know many older people who enjoy it as well.
to BRY- none of the movie was actually shot in Forks, kinda disappointing huh?
Meyer had them locked down with Twilight so they couldnt make many changes. I hope in New Moon there’s licence to add Cullen scenes because the Bella/Jacob section is very repetative. A dramatist should realise where the real drama of her story lies. Meyer chose to put the Cullens to one side and focus on the far weaker part of the story. The producers need to think carefully about the script for New Moon. If it follows the book it will be like the Harry Potter stories suddenly losing Harry for the vast majority of one film.
I am excited to see that they are going to film New Moon. All the major characters have signed a 3 film contract with Summet so there is no worry about replacing characters. I love the books and I’m 27. My husband has also read all of the books and he is 32 so their is proof that not just the tweens and teens love these books.
I have to say that I absolutely cannot wait for this movie to come out. I’m even counting down the days to go…
That however does not mean that I think that its going to be anything great. I’m seventeen and I’m a RABID fan of the series. I love the cast, and I’ve watched the teasers and final trailer more than a hundered times in total. But….we (fans) got to face facts that this movie is not going to that great. Sure, alot of people are going to see it. Its going to make a huge profit but unless people stop hyping it up and raising everyone’s expectations so high everyone is going to be severely disappointed.
I’m still going to watch it (and the sequels) multiple times
I just want everyone to be more realistic.
I’m in my fifties, and I know women from 70 down to girls of 12 who are enamored with this series of books. Sure, they have some grammatical errors and typos, but the story is engrossing. The author takes you into her world. I think the last book definitely was for older teens and adults, and it got a bit bizarre at times, but it was necessary for the story line.
The last book leaves open a world of new possibilities in the future for books about Jacob and Renesmee, the Volturi and their lust for power, the alliance with the shape-shifters, and also how Renesmee’s unique abilities affect society as a whole in the future. Just a world of possibilities, and I hope Ms. Meyer fulfills them with more books involving these characters, now that she’s finished the love story of Edward and Bella, and can concentrate on the bigger picture.
I’m a 26-year-old mom, and I will be part of a varied group going to see the movie: a 15-year-old girl, a 22-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man, and my 60-something mother.
The books are actually very enjoyable, and I think the fans are interested in seeing if the movie can live up to the first book. If it gets anywhere close to creating the same feeling of new love and excitement the first book created, then they’re going to bank on the movie.
The only people that will see this crap are women. There is no male interest. It will do fine for Summit but people are grossly overestimating this film’s box office potential.
I am 26 and my fiance is 27 and all of our old high school and college buddies have read the books, and we both agree that they deserved the top spot and that the series deserved to be made into a fabulous video! Catherine (FROM OREGON) has completed a number of wonderful movies, why not this time? The cast is amazing, other than Kristen and Robert, its mainly a low un-recoginized cast that will move on up hollywoods scale, and I believe they lived up to the task they all are un believeably beautiful and all have excellent skill, if you have doubt check out the newly released trailer, you won’t be disappointed! The movie will be a hit, for my generation, my younger sisters, even my moms, there are even fan sites for guys! My fiance is at least on there once daily! This book is labeled YOUNG ADULT, but it is only catoragized that for SALES….It can be read for any one, any age, and my money is betting they’ll like it!
Soooooo before you people go whining and complaining and saying “its not for me”, give the movie a chance, who knows…you might just like it!
I am a 23 year old professional and I happen to love these books and are more obsessive about them then my 14 year old sister. Actually the Twilight audience ranges from very young 9-10 year olds to 80 year olds. Sure the primary audience is teenagers but I belong to the TwilightMoms and Twilight20somethings blogs and I can assure you we will be out in full force just like the teenagers. If you think about it really, the older audiences are the ones that take road trips to Forks and went to the set during filming. I am already allocating money in my savings to see it at midnight, opening weekend, and several more times over the month following it’s release–and trust me, I will enjoy it every time.
I am 40 years old and love the Twilight series. I am very excited about New Moon being made. Hopefully, the film adaptation will appeal to all ages, but I will definitely be there opening day.
My greatest hope is that this is another Snakes on a Plane and bombs.
The trailers looks *horrible*. I really don’t have any idea how this movie became to something that everyone is talking about.. I think it will have a nice opening weekend (more than 30 million), but after the bad reviews it will fall very quickly.. I hope so.
Maybe it is just me, but did anyone actually inject some taste into that trailer? It looked positively direct-to-home video with the shot structure, the music, editing, and acting (especially those “bad” vampire guys). Perhaps Mr. Friedman should consider regulating the sequel as such? Although, yes, I do agree it is going to make a few dollars…
“put up with squealing tweens” ?
Im a 56 yr old Mom and Grandma, and I loved reading these books. Im so hooked on the Twilight series, that I can barely put my books down. And since there are 4 books, ( at this time )why not.. have more than one movie ? I also have to agree with what Silver said.. Never underestimate of the power of fandom. And how modest of hoping for a 20 mil weekend opening. If the movie stays true to the book, I think that amount will be much much more than they anticipated it to be.
I can´t either wait for the movie to come out!!
I don´t think it wasted off money to do the movie..
OMG!!!! I cant wait to see this movie and anyone who bags on this movie should go out and get the books!!!! Beacuse you seriously have on idea what your talking about.
Um… I’m 19 and I love these books. I really wish everyone would stop saying only 14 year old girls like this series. People of ALL ages and even GUYS like these books… people underestimate how huge the fanbase for Twilight is… just wait to November 21 and you’ll really see how popular this is… and I can assure you the theater won’t be full of just tween girls.
I am a 50 year old mother of two teenaged daughters. I read the first book because both my girls loved it – bad writing but great story and it pulls you in. Not only do I want to see it on its opening day, but so do my work friends who are also in their 40’s and 50’s. Hollywood is going to be really surprised by how many “women” are going to support this film. It is going to be HUGE!!!!
I loved these books and got caught up in the obsession of each of them. I was glued and I’m in my 50’s. Then along came Breaking Dawn and it ruined all the previous books and obsession. She phoned it in and it was horrible. She didn’t care about the fans at all, she even said she wrote what she wanted, well she lost me Makes me not want to see the movie now that I know how it ends. Yec. I’m sure it’ll do well for the teens.
I read all 3 books with such a passion I was obsessed. I got all my friends to read it. Then along came Breaking Dawn and she ruined the entire series for me. I wanted to throw it across the room, and by the time I was done, I was done with the whole outer body experience I got reading the saga. I closed the book and said thanks Stephenie now I don’t want to see the movie. You took such a great saga and ruined in completely. I’m sure the teens will be out in droves. I’m in my 50’s and up until Eclipsed was just as excited as them. Breaking Dawn took the air out of my sail. Glad there is a sequel, but if Catherine isn’t directing it’ll fall to the waste side.
I know more adults waiting for the Twilight movie then teenagers and I’m the mom of two teens. A boy and girl, only my daughter has read the books, but my son liked the full trailer, said it looked fun.
One of the earlier posters commented on the less then chaste content of the last book and I have to smile. Most commercials are less chaste then what is described in Breaking Dawn in regards to their married life.
My daughter is 13. She has the Twilight calendar, the poster, two bookmarks, three shirts, all the books and all the books on CD. She has already watched the trailer more than 30 times, and she has friends who have watched it more than her. They are currently pressing our local theaters to run a midnight showing on a school night and then they plan to see Twilight again over the weekend and again during Thanksgiving break. Can you say teenage fans with disposable income?
I’m 40+. My friends and I planned to be there right along with them. To see a movie that is romantic at its core with action and just a hint of horror has us swooning already. Plus at a PG-13 rating we can see Twilight with our daughters without shielding their eyes or sending them out for popcorn at the inappropriate moments. If Catherine and cast stay true to the essence of the book and deliver the visuals to match, who cares who produced it and how much it cost to make, we’ll go see it over and over.
No one knows Twilight in here.So I had no love or no hate for Twilight. But I saw on the Net Twilight fans attacked people who didn’t like Twilight many times.Even worse some Twilight fans trashed other young actors to just praise that lead actor.(Other young actors were just my favorite)It’s not devotion.I never saw such a offensive fans.
But I found there are also many Twilight haters.(probabry most are male moviegoers though)
I feel I’m one of them now..
Glad to hear Twilight was also booed at theater.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE I AM SUPER EXCITED I AM 23 YEARS OLD AND I LOVE STEPHANIE MEYERS…SCI FI AINT GOT NOTHING ON TWILIGHT….
After i saw Stephenie Meyer promoting her books on Ellen Degeneres i had to have them, i didn’t hesitate to purchase the first 2 reading them with a few days which lead me to quickly purchase the last 2 knowing i throughly would enjoy them finishing all 4 within a week! I can not wait till the movie comes out in november and a sequel im an hoping for definetly, This series reaches many ages male and female alike, Im sure there will be many non avid twilight readers that attend the movie possible going out and making a book purchase just to understand what they have just seen. To each their own if you don’t like what you see then dont bother going to the movie. And for all my fellow twilight fans Rock on!!!
This will be a total hit!! I’m 30, I have an MBA and I’m a financial analyst; and I’m totally watching the movie and dragging my husband along with me! I don’t know why people are under the impression that this is a “teen” series, trying to imply that anyone with something important in their brain wouldn’t be interested in the books!! It’s excellent writing… Very descriptive and compelling…
Now if Summit could only open SEX DRIVE which looks like a big fat bomb. I think anyone could open TWILIGHT. Let’s see how they fare with their other product.
Judging from the reaction from my own 17 year old daughter, who quite literally shreeks in anticipation in viewing the trailers online….I’m guessing this movie will do well….I saw the trailer myself and I gotta tell you, I’m a bit intrigued as well and I’ve not even read the books….
IT will be huge. I work at a hospital with thousands of employees and students and majority of them are reading the books waiting to see the movie…already wanting a sequal to the sequal!!! i cant imagine how they arent going to be able to keep from making more then 3 movies!!!
I am in my mid 30’s and have never been this excited for movie to come out!!!
Its annoying that some people only think that this movie will appeal to a younger audience.
Thats like saying that only younger audiences should watch movies like The wizard of Oz (wich is a major classic)The Chronicles of Narnia,Liminy Snickets,Stardust and ect and so.
who do you think came up witht he ideas for all these wonderful stories? children? no mosst adults write them so why cant we ALL open our minds and enjoy it?
It’s for ANYONE who has an imagination!!!
Where would we be without one? A very boring place if you ask me.
I am in my 30’s and have NEVER been this excited for a movie to come out!!!
It’s gets tiresome when people think a movie only appeals to a certain age group.I mean…thats like saying that only children enjoyed or should watch movies like,The wizrd of Oz,E.T,Stadust,The Chronicles of Narnia and so on. The people in the past who have written these amazing stories I’m sure didnt come up with these stories for only children. They are for anybody who has an imagination.Whre would we be without it? A boring place if you ask me.
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE TWILIGHT!!!!!
This will be huge! I know men and women from 12 -70 that are in love with this series. That is the beauty of it. It reaches across the age lines. I think it will have enough action that if men go see it they will decide they really liked it! I just hope that while Taylor playing Jacob will be fine for pre Werewolf scenes they need Steven Strait for after he is a Werewolf. Taylor just can’t pull off looking like he is 25 and isn’t big enough.
i’m afraid that you are sadly mistaken. people of all ages enjoy the books, and i believe that the same will go for the movie.
i am a fan, but i dont want to go see a movie with a bunch of screaming idiots. long live books! and i think they will make their money back, but not tooo much more after that. people will be dissapointed. fer sure.
I’m 27…all my friends are around the same age, and we’re nothing short of obsessed with the series and are counting down the days to the movie release. I know people in their 30s and 40s who are also anxious to see the movie as they’ve been in love with the series from day 1.
It’s not just for teens or tweens….at all.
Well, I’m a long ways past 14 years old and I didn’t find it boring in the least. Yes, it was a bit slow to start but it developed quite nicely after it did. The series was wonderful. I will definitely be in line to catch the midnight showing–along with my friends in The Twilight Addicts Discussion Club–and I’ll be taking opening day off to go see it with two more friends. I can hardly wait until 11/21!!
I am a twilight mom, my friends are all twilight moms and our teens all loooooove Edward…. I can’t wait!!!!
I tried to read the books, they were awful, not story subject, the book. I bought, for my son -and read, the first Harry Potter book, way before it was on the best sellers list. There is no comparison, Twilght does not come from a talented writer, only one who hooked on to a genre and a time when there is not enough worthwhile viewing for that demographic.
I am 43 years old, and I’ll be going to see this movie on 11/21 with my 12 year old daughter AND my 69 year old mom. We all love the series and look forward to having that scary-hot Pattinson make us fall in love with Edward all over again.
I also agree that it won’t just be tweens in the theatres. I am a 20 year old college student who is DYING to see the movies and I know A LOT of people older than me (i.e.- my 30 year old sister) who are dying to go the day it comes out as well. I think people are definitely underestimating the fan base here. It’s not just 13 year olds.
I’m 44 without kids and am a big fan. And I know I’m not alone as I ran into an friend from high school the other day who I found is also into the saga. As for that, I have permission from my friends to keep their teenage daughters from school to take them to the matinee showings (or midnight showings if they’re available).
I think it will not only do well but will pull in from outside the expected target audience.
This movie is going to be huge! If you have read the books chances are you love them like the rest of us Twilighters of a certain age. It is not just for Tweens!!!I am 38 and I am so going to see this movie and the ones to follow with all of my girlfriends young and old.
The series was amazing..and I am a 27 year old woman. I cant wait for the movie to come out…especially the sequals!
I think the opening is going to have a great outcome,
every one that i know at school is try to get their hands ont he first books of the twilight saga and they are very intrigued by the book. many have read all four books within days i myself read them in 2 days tops. so i beleive the turnout for the movie will be very big. i also have guy friends who are reading the books and no they are not gay!
I am a married 24 year old woman who is obsessed with Twilight! I love all four books and have all the calendars, posters, keychains, etc. My whole family of 20 to 30 year olds including men love this book. I certainly don’t think it will only be teenage girls seeing this movie. I already have plans to see it twice during the first 24 hours alone. I truly can not wait until this movie opens!
I will see this movie several times. Really looking forward to it! I also wanted to add: I loved the fourth book, Breaking Dawn. It was, in fact, my favorite of the series. I thought that it was clever, adventurous and still exuded the passion of the earlier books. Those who have had such a negative reaction to BD, I believe, did not really grasp the building storyline behind the romance of the earlier books. It was the perfect ending!
Like many other 30-somethings, I can’t wait to see Twilight come to life on the big screen. Personally, I think the movie will be a huge success, thanks firstly to Stephenie Meyer’s fantastic books, and secondly to the care given by the production team at Summit. My hope is that enough care has been given to make producing the sequels worth the time, money & effort.
As a fan, I will see them all, regardless. As with Harry Potter, I expect changes. I expect that certain moments that were important to me will be excluded. It happens. If they get the essence of Edward & Bella’s relationship right, and then Bella & Jacob’s, I won’t complain about too much.
And just a note about ‘mean’ Twilight’ fans: You have to realize that these are the minority. It only takes a little bit of yeast to spoil the batch, certainly, but there will always be mean, negative people in the world. Please don’t lump us all together.
I can’t WAIT for Twilight!
It’s funny to me that the most of those here who say “I’m not a teen and I love Twilight” are women… so it’s still not a general audience movie. That said, though, women seem to be the main reason why Titanic did so well
I find it funny that the people who don’t like the books or think the movie is going to bomb always take the time to post their comments. If you don’t care that much then why waste your time? Who cares if you don’t like the Twilight series?? Who cares if the movie doesn’t do well? I guarantee you that even if the true fans don’t like the movie – it’s not going to change their opinions about the books.
I’m 20, and want to see Twilight. But, I’m not anticipating it to be a great film. The trailers and acting is horrible, and I think they already killed the love I had for the book. Anyone else see “Blood and Chocolate?” I wanted to murder the director for messing up the story line for that, too.
Not to mention, only the first book was good in the series. Breaking Dawn was utterly horrible and killed the franchise with the demon baby, etc.
Just my humble opinon.
I visited the set and wrote up a set-report for a well known genre magazine. It was already pretty much set in stone that the sequel was green-lit. The following for this novel series is huge and goes well beyond 14 year-old girls. The fans gathered outside the Portland, OR set were plenty and varied in ages. This flick should do well. And I much prefer the November slot than the previous December slot.
This is how it’s gonna go down people—never underestimate the power of PTA soccer moms with good organizing skills and horrid lust for Robert Pattinson.
They can move mountains people!
They are going to fill up their minivans on multiple outings for Twilight…once with the SO, once with their daughters and their friends, once with coworkers, once with book club friends, once with friends who are dragged unwillingly.
Just you wait…you guys aren’t catching onto the adult female contingent here that spread the good news of TWilight that would put a Jehovah Witness AND a Mormon Missionary to shame!
It’s quite simple… Big book(s), big hit.
Those who read the book(s) will mostly likely see the movie.
Which means, movie = BIG hit. Hence why it was made into a film to begin with.
For all of those, who dislike it, don’t get it, or are bashing it… You simply don’t understand it. Take your negative commentary elsewhere.
If you feel the movie is bad, wake up call?!?! Worse has been made.
Come November 21st, people will be lining to see this movie, and YES, it will be a hit.
And yes, the majority will be women, amon SOME men.
I have a total of 15 friends and coworkers tagging along with me. And yes, there are males among them.
I’m sure the rest of the males, cynics and plain haters can just go see something packed with testosterone. I’m sure there’ll be something out as such for your viewing pleasure.
I am a 31 yr old mom, who absolutely loves Twilight!!! I am completely obsessed. I can not wait til the movies premiere in November, I may even go to the special premiere showing in Orlando, FL @ Universal Studios.
I just wish people were a little more positive and obtimistic. Since when does a book, describe who is reading them? A book tells a story all on its own, there is no need to tell a story about who reads it. This story is incredible, and I can’t wait to see more about it.
I’m 18 and I’m so excited to see the movie!! ill go see it multiple times! I also can’t wait for the production of new moon. I think this series will be great. Can’t waittt :]
i’m 25 and my hubby is 27…we will both be in the theatre that day…i’m soooo excited… do i think the movie coulda been made a little better with a little better special fx? sure…but either way i’m dying to see it
move over harry potter….who wants a nerdy wizard when u can have a sexy, charming, vampire!
holy crap i think this movie wants to be seen by every girl above the age of 13 at least it sholud be
I CANNOTTTTTT WAIT ANOTHER SECOND UGHHHHHH!!!!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!
