During the next few weeks you’ll read and hear Jon Favreau’s name repeated by the Washington press corps. It’s because Barack Obama’s favorite speechwriter has the same name as Jon Favreau, the Hollywood director, writer, and actor. Today, a Time.com posting of possible personnel in an Obama administration spotlighted Jon Favreau “the Hollywood actor and screenwriter and director”. I kid you not. (It was quickly amended.) For the record, the “other” Favreau is a 26-year-old jeans-clad staffer who worked in Obama’s senate office and who is no relation to the Iron Man and Swingers guy. But he’s writing Obama’s most memorable campaign speeches and will likely become the speechwriting director if Obama wins the presidency.

Still not as bad as when theater magnate Ted Mann died and Variety said in his obituary that in addition to owning a huge theater chain, he’d been a staff writer (in his 80s, mind you) for Law & Order and NYPD Blue.
DC Favreau is a hottie.
Wait… the One has a speechwriter? I thought it was only dumb Sarah Palin who read things off a teleprompter?
I only watch CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and read the NYT, LAT and WaPo, how come nobody told me this?
I’m glad you cleared that up. I had just read the Politico article about an Obama administration and I was a wee bit confused by that. I then expected to hear that Angelina Jolie would be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. We already may have one of the Emanuels in there. That’s enough Hollywood for me.
what’s with the crappy dell computer?
what’s with the crappy dell computer?
Looks like Obama’s requiring his staff to spread any wealth around, hence the crappy Dell computers. Not enough money for real ones.
I think the speechwriter needs to change his name to Jon L. Favreau ’cause Swinger Jon Favreau got his SAG card first. The new kid should do a cameo on the revival of Melrose Place, though. He and Vanessa Williams could trade stories.

Both Jons need a raise. Great work on both coasts…
I’ll bet the c-h-a-n-g-e keys are all worn down. A little confusion, though – aren’t Obama’s speeches all supernaturally transcribed on stone tablets?
wow, savvydude & DH, why try to come across as if you’re floored at the revelation of a speechwriter? Were you shocked when you found out movies and television were scripted too?
Actually, Nikki, he’s not writing Obama’s most memorable speeches. Those have been written by Obama himself — being “The Audacity of Hope” speech he delivered at the 2004 Democratic Convention that made him a star and his campaign-saving speech on race, “A More Perfect Union.”
That said, Obama of course does use speech writers for his daily speeches. No candidate in this day of endless campaigning has the time to write their own speeches.
And he’s a PC Guy
He looks a bit like Ben Affleck
A 26-year-old has been putting words in a would-be president’s mouth? So that’s why every Obama speech has been all flash and no substance, and completely devoid of a realistic worldview. He’s the McG of speech writing.
Seriously, you all have NO idea – Jon was a classmate of mine and a good friend who is talented beyond belief. Obama is lucky to have him.
^^^Steve sounds like he’s pissed he can’t fully comprehend something a 26 year old wrote.
Yeah, holykemp. It takes a real genius to understand “Hope and Change…Change and Hope…Hope, hope, hope, change, change change.” What a joke.
