EXCLUSIVE: Fandango, one of the Internet's biggest movie ticketsellers, is currently polling moviegoers interested in seeing W, the new Oliver Stone biopic about George W. Bush opening this Friday. Here are a few preliminary results based on nearly 2,000 respondents who answered its survey from Friday through 2:30 pm today:
57% are male
58% are ages 25-49
66% say they want to see W because of its controversy surrounding the film
34% say they voted for George W. Bush in a previous election
27% say they will vote for McCain
53% say they will vote for Obama
80% have seen at least one of Oliver Stone’s previous movies
I’m glad Fandango did this survey, but I’m pretty sure that -unfortunately- we are still very far from knowing what does Average American think about ‘W’. (Maybe a survey at Wal-Mart, anybody?)
fuck Oliver Stone and fuck “W.” i am insulted that Oliver Stone think that the whole 8 years of the Bush administration is funny, because there is NOTHING funny about thousands of American soldiers, Iraqis, and Afghans dying in the name of oil, greed, and capitalism!
the fact that people don’t take Bush seriously is what bothers me so much. He LIED and nobody has bothered to impeach him, but we impeached Clinton for a blowjob!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!
Oh great. A new source of faulty debate material for the MTV generation.
I like Bush, but going to see because I’m assuming it’ll be more like a SNL skit..should be good for some laughs.
Why doesn’t Oliver Stone do a movie that about a true former President that would be full of all kinds of salacious stuff — the Bill Clinton Story. Do you think Stone would have the nerve to do that as long as Clinton is alive? He is quite comfortable taking shots at conservatives, but i doubt if Stone would take on the Clintons.
Everyone loves a train wreck…they want to see Bush get lambasted to make themselves feel better and Oliver Stone is as good at bashing as anyone.
Why does Hollywood continue to think they need to get involved in politics by producing mocumentaries
Just goes to show that controversy sells. I was so disappointed with Oliver’s attempt at JFK. Why not come right out and expose some of the players that he uncovered in his research? Why did he have to hide desktop name plates behind plants and shrubs in the office scenes of the movie? Too afraid to tell it like it was? I am so sure Oliver will be as fair and even in his potrayal of an unpopular sitting president.
Can’t wait for Friday and can’t wait to buy the DVD! Thanks George for screwing something else up. Everything you have touched has turned to crap! Fool!
You missed a metric. 85% should have their heads examined for actually wanting to waste 2 hours watching the drug-soaked products of Oliver Stoned
Yet ANOTHER pile of limo liberal sh*t I’ll avoid. Oliver Stone’s lips are firmly planted on Castro’s a**.
I would watch this film if someone paid me $1000 to enter the theatre and there was an option to walk out after the first 5 minutes. Is this movie really necessary? I am tired of the reality show version, so why should I pay for a fictional account directed by someone that has not tried to hide his true feelings about the subject? Maybe in 20 years, when my memory is fading and I want to relive the Bush hatred of the 2000’s.
100% say this movie will do NOTHING to tilt the election towards Obama’s favor since everyone who goes to see it has already made up his or her mind.
BTW, does anyone think it would be ok for someone to, say, make a movie about Obama and release it right before the election at the end of his first term should he become president? Unless it wasn’t completely gushing over him and praising him, I doubt it would ever stand a chance of being released.
As a native Texan, I am offended at the caricature acting I have seen in the previews to this film. Love the Talking Heads song, but the promos probably showed all the “good” lines and action. The actors all said they weren’t trying to play caricatures–my a$$!
Who Wants To See Oliver Stone’s ‘W’?
No one I know…
If I want to see Bush bashing, I can watch MSNBC for free.
I am not and I bet most people will not pay money to see this Stone film. Why? Because , it is old news and should be available for free on the Obama web site as a campaign ad. I am sure it over plays the bad and plays down any good and has a predicable outcome. The image that has been painted for the past 8 years by the Democrats and others is what you will PAY to see. Boring.
Maybe Stone can actually make an entertaining movie one day that is a pleasure to watch or does he know how?
Oliver Stone is a traitor and should just move to one of his Utopian nations, for example, Cuba is just a short flight away. Europe becomes him..WHY does he stay here in America??!!!
and we should care about this why? Everyone knows who and what Oliver Stone is and with money tight these days who would want to waste their money on a left wing slanted Bush hit piece they can actually see a good movie about some funny little dogs?
Totally tastesless to show a movie about a current president. I wonder if Hollywood would have given us a Clinton/Lewinski movie during his presidency. This is unacceptable and I will boycott every single Oliver Stone film from now on.
82% say they are dumb asses
Sheep.
All 10 of them?
‘W’has to be better than the 2008 sequel ‘WTF?’
Yes but what is the interest level?
When is Mr. Stone’s movie about Bill Clinton’s adultery, perjury, lies, sex scandal, resulting legal wranglings and disbarment coming out? Oh that’s right – everything about Clinton was true. Where’s the controversy in that?
I want to see the movie for several reasons. it looks like its going to be a funny movie and it’s always good to kind of pull back the curtain and get an idea of what’s really going on, whether good or bad. Plus, although JFK missed the mark, I do like a lot of Oliver Stone movies. Ignore the liberal/conservative rigmarole and just watch the movie for its own sake and enjoy it.
They better get the people in to see “W” immediately because he’s going to be out of office and into history and then who’s going to care. It’s yesterdays news.
I’ve never really watched much O. Stone, but this is something I want to check out.
I’ll wait until a friend gets it via Netflix – I certainly wouldn’t PAY to watch the painful experience that is any Josh Brolin movie…
This movie will be a piece of shit just like the rest of Oliver Stone’s fims.
NO ONE
yeah I just love movies that get blown away by the pre-screen trailers.
boooo
hisssssss
boorrrrring
I wnat to see it because he’s a dirty wanker and I want to see him look bad. I hate GW’s Presidency and I want a good laugh at his expense. Dirty Wanker, sod off, what.
I predict Oliver Stone will spend more money advertising this trash than he will make. However, he did not make this for profit. He made it because he is a blinded by his hatred for Bush.
Piece of garbage movie by a piece of garbage director who like all of Hollywood..supports… along with Oprah…their man Obama.
I could care less about this movie. However, I might have cared more if Good ol’ Ollie had made a better choice in an actor that LOOKED LIKE W. Good Lord! Pics from the trailer have done nothing for me at all.
Go ahead and see it folks. Support bad casting and bad movie choices in general.
Nothing like a pol to find your audience. Hopefully the script and the acting are worth wasting the 10.50/ticket. What the heck they may even get the facts right – though doubtful.
This should be about as fun as an awl gore or michael more film.
99% have first name of Oliver
99% have last name of Stone
99% have directed a movie
99% are extreme liberals
99% are trying to make a cheap buck during an election cycle on ‘controversy’
What a joke…. Oliver Stone showing the real thing. I don’t think anyone realizes how far left this guy is….
I’ll go see it if and only if someone can promise me that the private conversations in the film weren’t just invented for dramatic effect.
Who cares? The movie gets mixed reviews and the poll notwithstanding, this turkey is done before opening.
movie is going to be good. i hope it doesnt make bush into something he wasnt though. it needs to be true to the core.
There are things Known and There are things unknown. And in between are THE DOORS.
Sounds like a flop to me.
I believe in free speech so I have to accept the fact that Stone has the right to make such trash, but I hope he looses his shirt financially on this despicable film.
Where was this eruditious masterpiece four years ago, when it could have done some good? Thanks Oliver, but I’m afraid it’s too late. Now scholars and historians have W’s lagacy in their hands, instead of network news nit wits and Hollywood kooks who failed us when we needed them most.
A movie courtesy of the great American who lauds Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Please stick your movie where the sun doesn’t shine, Mr. Stone.
I don’t need to pay to watch left wing biased entertainment, I can just turn on NBC for free.
everyone who voted for GB should be made to watch it
total propaganda. Bush is the worst president in the history of America; but I would not watch this garbage. Just the facts, please.
If you want to see the film but refuse to contribute to Stone or the other liberals in the film, buy a ticket to another film that is non-political and walk into W. Call it a “quiet protest”.
Thank gosh for Oliver Stone. In ‘04 we had the other idiot Michael Moore who may have single handedly gotten W elected. (Him along with Letterman, Stern, Streisand, Sarandon/Robbins, ad nauseum)
You go Ollie baby!
and please take Sean Penn with you.
I’ll be there Friday afternoon.Oliver Stone makes great movies. The are called contraversial only because he tells the truth and isn’t afraid to do so.JFK is a great film, people that still believe the official lies called The Warren Report are the same people that believe that 9/11 was caused by a dozen Saudie with box cutters.LoL.
W. looks pretty funny.A good back comedy about an idiot that had no business as dog catcher, let alone POTUS. The coporations and the pentagon wanted a stooge and they got him much to the countries detriment.
Most of these comments stem from ignorance. I have seen a few interviews of Oliver Stone regarding this movie, and he seems to play it straight. I believe he said that he thought that Bush was one of the greatest presidents ever.
The guy playing Bush looks and acts more like the SNL version then the real person. One of the worst comic renditions of a politician in my opinion.
This looks like a really cool movie. G. W. Bush is a terrible President, probably one of the worst in history. This movie should have come out before the last election because then it could have actually changed something. I hope all of you can view it without the red-tinged opinion lenses and maybe it will change your mind about this man and his legacy.
They didn’t make a movie about lewinsky because it was boring – he received oral sex – who cares. Bush started a war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Are these equivalent acts? I think not.
I CAN’T WAIT TO LAUGH EVEN HARDER AT BUSH!
All I know it that the song used in the trailers “once in a lifetime” by the Talking Heads is probabley the only enjoyable part of this movie. Everyone knows Dick Cheney has been president for 8 years and not that bad of one at that. So see for the whole week it lasts in theaters or buy it in the bargain bin at wal-mart in 6 months.
It’s really amazing to see how many fans Bush still has
considering that he’s almost brought down the financial
markets to its knees single handed!
….and before this crisis. We aren’t entirely out of the woods with Iraq……and he was beating the war drum with Iran….and North Korea. The same people would consider him a nice enough fellow to drink a beer with.
I’d be willing to bet that if he was allowed
a third term…….he’d get re-elected……
No surprise here. Hollywood hates America and loves to show it.
Heck at least a Clinton/ Lewinsky movie might be more interesting. LOL
Let’s face it, Oliver Stone hasn’t put out a movie worth watching since Platoon. I expect this will bomb just as badly as his film Nixon did. Maybe it should go straight to DVD so all those liberal zombies can own a copy and cherish it forever.
Oliver Stone sits back and knows that he can continue to sell crap to idiots and they will keep coming back for more…..What a country!
Trailer looks more like an SNL hit piece. It will probably amuse the lunatic left and make them feel superior like Michael Moore’s movie did.
Stone is not obligated to make films about both sides of the political debate. Neutrality is for respectable journalists.
And regarding “W”….. “yawn”
I predict it will make as much money as “Body of Lies”.
No one will go see this. I myself was going to try to SEE body of lies TODAY just for the acting but I got to the theater and it has vanished ALREADY. I am not joking. This movie will be the next “Redacted” and according to Rotten Tomatoes, less than 4000 people saw that movie.
No, I will not go to the theater to see such fictional trash. I will not rent this trash either. Oliver Stone
is laughable.
Just goes to show that Hollywood is definitely full of liberal morons who like to make up movies to make others look bad to make themselves feel superior. No respect for our President (whether you like him or not) and it is disrespectful–to say the least. I hope it bombs so bad. Oliver Stone is a hack and always has been. Just another crock of crap from the looney tunes in Hollywood…
I can’t wait to see it! Maybe there will be one small tidbit in the film that will make me finally like the guy.
90+ days and counting……………..
I can only thank God that in a few months there won’t be anymore blaming-accusing-mocking-ridiculing of Bush. Guess the Dems will have to come up without another gameplan to blame the ills of the world.
It should open in Nov. 4, and play continously through the entire day. Let all the crazies go see it, maybe they’ll forget what else happens that day.
No wonder the other countries hate us. It all started with Bill Clinton. He himself disrespected the office of President and ever since, our country has trashed Clinton, then President Bush. We have NO respect for our leaders, the media is running our country, and we will continue to trash our leaders. Respect has gone out the window and civility will never return in my life time.
My problem with any Oliver Stone or any Hollywood movie based on truth is they make the movie more interesting by adding things that are in fact not true. I don’t know if that will be the case in “W”, but unfortunately when young people watched JFK, like myself, we thought it was all true, conspiracies and all. Took a few years for me to come to my senses. Oliver Stone has made a movie that I only hope tells Bush’s story that we know and not fill in the blanks with behind the scenes dialog and creating fictional characters like he did in JFK.
Some of the audience will be traditional Republican voters like myself who believe W’s performance in office has done more to damage the Republican Party than any president since Hoover. He has made the word Republican a synonym for Stupid, and I, for one, resent it.
I find it hard to believe that there are 2,000 people in the entire U.S. willing to subject themselves to this poorly-acted yawnfest. Brolin as W? Couldn’t Stone at least find someone with a shred of talent? The guy’s best work was in The Goonies! Toss in the guy from Close Encounters as the Vice President, and it’s basically a duo whose best work was back in the 80’s (and no, Mr. Holland’s Opus was not a good movie).
3 Questions:
Why would those who hate Bush pay to see someone play him? Why would anyone who loves Bush pay to see a liberal interpretation of him? And, why would anyone who doesn’t care either way suddenly start caring enough to buy a ticket?
So much hatred for a movie none of you have seen. Clinton? Really?Grow up. Clinton screwed the pooch so bush should get a free pass? Think once in a while it will do you good.
I would not go see this trash if the tickets were free.
I’ve seen better youtube videos, yet it will be nominated for at least 10 oscars.
Yippee another Hollywierd loser beating up on Bush.
So let’s say Bush never went to Iraq, and just how would the world today be any better?
What a tool Stone has become. Who wants to go see this crap?
no, I will no give a cent to a filmmaker is propagandist for the left
This movie looks like a bad joke – easy to tell it’s a parody resulting from Stone’s fantasy world and hatred of Bush. What a waste of time.
A movie on Clinton’s presidency could have been really funny and interesting, given the material a director/writer has to work with. Now that’s a movie I’d pay to see.
Someone should make a movie about what a s**thead Oliver Stone is… a biography maybe. Now THAT would be fun to see!
It’s a sure thing that the liberal left will hail this as an important film, and take everything that O. Stone puts into it as fact.
I wish the Hollywood elite would get off their holier than thou ladder and start using their brains every now and then.
I think there’s a huge backlash about to come around for Hollywood.
Tony I think that number should be closer to 98% are stupid
Another “Hollywood hates Bush” film. Blah Blah Blah.
I’ll bet my next paycheck that Stone didn’t interview anyone in the Bush administration before he made this film. Any takers?
I will rent it when it comes out on video only because I am and always have been loyal to my president who I happen to believe has done a wonderful job as president (as history will show regardless of what the liberal ass media has to say and all the people on the anti-bush bandwagon). I want to see the portrayal that Oliver Stone makes about him out of curiosity. All the problems we face today (including the war) were festering during Clinton’s presidency. They came to HEAD “literally” because of Clinton’s oval office shenanigans. Thanks to him, Bush is made out to be this awful president. Time will show otherwise.
I do not know what you people are talking about. There were a bunch of films mocking Clinton while he was in office. Primary Colors??
Oliver Stone’s films are usually brilliant, but after watching ‘Dubya’ ruin this country for the past eight years, I’m not sure I’m willing to shell out $12 to re-live it. Unfortunately, the people who need to see it(mindless conservatives)…won’t.
I think that I don’t want to see it, period. Hollywood has made me just about sick to my stomach. I really do despise just about anything about them at all. Oliver Stone could put the best movie out about anything and I would not give you 2 cents to see it. Much less him reviling the leader of the U.S.A. I hope that his whole empire rots. No joke! I hate to say bad things about people, but for another person to not be upholding a leader of his people, well, what can I say?
To Mike: Oliver Stone has the right to make movies about whoever/whatever he chooses—Remember? We live in a country in which the buyers market determines what movies get made and distributed. And, the movie-goers determine which movies earn money…Apparently, Oliver Stone movies have made a lot of money! So, you need to get some conservative-leaning director interested in making a movie about Bill Clinton. We’ll see if that director can make a really good bio-pic that makes a lot of money…However, I wouldn’t get your hopes up because it might tank at the box office like “American Carol”…
HAHAHAHAaaa!!! Get over it, girls — you lost 2 elections because you had WORSE candidates than George W. Bush!!! No one but a hate-filled old hippie will watch this garbage. Oliver Stone is a has-been. HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!
another great propagandist movie by the worthless filmmaker Stone. Still waiting for the movie on Clinton. he should be just sent to gitmo for crimes against humanity—that is, anyone that has to see the previews for his horse-shit.
if you are for bush or against bush, for obama or mccain or barr or nader or whomever, Oliver Stone is a propagandist and is anti-American. DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
Let’s keep this in mind: Stone is absolutely, 100%, one-in-the-same as that lame bunch of “Stoners” at SNL (Chevy Chase, Ackroyd, Murray, Franken, Fey, Newman, Newman (and “Newman”) and their peerless leader, Michaels. They need to keep their heads and noses buried in their cocaine bowls along with their candidate, Mr. “B.O.” Obama (stinky plane, stinky plane) and leave the politics to the more sober, and less dopey, and not nearly as stinky as their dopey pal Jim Morrison (what, do they just like living in their own filth?). What a bunch of maroons.
uh….. primary colors
This is a bad movie. It’s poorly written with sub-par performances. It’s a film that was written and shot to quickly and just doesn’t work. It’s uninteresting. It adds nothing to the national conversation or the historical record. Someday a better story about the Bush presidency will be told. Oliver Stones first take rush job will be quickly forgotten.
LOL. I’m glad that so many people have seen this movie, enough to already provide reviews on it.
It’s sad that so many people are so insecure about their own platform that they have to attack anything, including a hollywood movie, that might threaten their position.
I guess that all of that insecurity is going to come out now more than ever, when so many in the middle class have been screwed over by the upper class/elite loving policies of the last 8 years.
I can watch George W. Bush be a moron for free on CNN daily.
Where is the mention that this was half funded by the CHINESE? Oh, that is right, the liberal media is ill informed again.
