Twilight doesn’t open until two weeks from today (at midnight), but Fandango is reporting that nearly 100 show times for the November 21st release are already sold-out across the nation, from California to Florida. The Summit Entertainment vampire romance is looking like a low-cost blockbuster as it accounts for 63% of all ticket sales on Fandango, the nation’s largest movie ticketing destination. Twilight sales are outpacing those of Disney’s High School Musical 3 at the same point in that film’s sales cycle (two weeks before its release date). The same phenomenon is happening at major online ticketseller MovieTickets.com. Despite being more than two weeks from its opening, Twilight accounted for 34% of ticket sales at MovieTickets.com on Monday and Tuesday of this week, putting it three percentage points ahead of MGM/Sony’s Quantum of Solace (31%) which opens November 14.
MovieTickets.com says Twilight is boasting impressive “intent to see” numbers across the board: 77% of under-25 moviegoers aware of the movie intend to see it opening weekend, compared to 70% of 25-to-34 year-olds, 64% of 35-to-44 year-olds, and 70% of 45-to-59 year-olds.
On Fandango, an ongoing Twilight moviegoers survey found that as of Nov. 6th
87% of respondents said they saw the trailers and clips online
92% said the trailers and clips made they want to buy a ticket to the movie
73% said the one character they were most excited to see is Edward (Robert Pattinson)
31% of Twilight moviegoers are 17 or under
28% are 18-to-24
22% are 25-to-34
16% are 35-to-49
3% are 50 or over

the previews are total crap. Very Lifetime-ish, awful acting, bad dialogue, cheesy as hell.
This is probably going to be extremely front loaded and sink like a boulder the second weekend. Unless the movie is good, but then it’s left out every demographic but teenage girls and (single?)moms, who will be in school, so if I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a modest hit, not the raging cash machine people seem to be predicting. You need ALL demograhics going over and over for that kind of cheddar.
agree with Punk Girl
So this is what teenage girls are finding attractive now???
I weep for our society.
Summit stepped in shit…money coated shit
100 showtimes selling out among 5,000 sites on one day isn’t exactly impressive. I know that there will be some passionate “Twilight” fans, but I don’t believe the near-release tracking will show that they are as numerous as they are passionate.
The top of the range for “Twilight” for me is still $25 million. That’s about $5,000 per theater for the first weekend. Optimistic estimates are double that. I don’t even think “Twilight” will beat “Bolt.”
I am skeptical of the value of posting Internet survey information as an indication of anything. Fandango was the initial exclusive seller of “Twilight” tickets (or something like that), so a survey of people at Fandango about “Twilight” doesn’t provide much insight other than “Oh, the Twilight fans still like it.”
And, just for one moment, read the following rationally:
77% of under-25 moviegoers aware of the movie intend to see it opening weekend
70% of 25-to-34 year-olds
64% of 35-to-44 year-olds, and
70% of 45-to-59 year-olds
“70% of 45-to-59 year-olds.” That’s just ridiculous.
Sure the movie will suck just as much as the book. On the other hand, hanging outside a theater showing this piece of crap would be a great place to pick up horny fat chicks.
the book has a pretty loyal fan base of young girls & women. not surprising that advanced tickets are doing well. as far as cheesy goes the book are a step above most ya books and the film looks better then a lifetime movie. it is just the sort of genre that you are into or not.
Holy crap! Forget about the loot from ticket sales, think of all the concessions purchased by all the chunky, gluttonous goth girls.
Twilight is a beautiful story and I’m sure the movie will do amazing at the box office. I think many people are really underestimating the fanbase. Not to mention Twilight fans will be serious repeat viewers. I think this movie is going to be huge.
ROLE MODELS: I saw it. It stinks. Trying to be what you think it is going to try and be. Pass.
screw this movie Trueblood rocks!
Remember Titanic? Did great business, but it was mostly well after it’s premier. Not the sort of guy “gotta stand in line, see it first” sort of thing for Batman, Iron Man, comic-book / Star Wars movies.
The bulk of Titanic’s box office came AFTER it’s release.
It could be that Twilight does the same.
One explanation for that is Date Night. No guy I think could sit through either. Whereas the comic book / Star Wars movies are probably not that objectionable for girls. Guy usually pays, veto power over choice of movie.
I love the books and can’t wait to see the movie. I know it’s going to be awesome. Very cute actors too. If you don’t like the books or the movie, you should stab yourself in the eye with a pencil. Bye.
“If you don’t like the books or the movie, you should stab yourself in the eye with a pencil.”
Thanks for the advice. Don’t mind if I do. In fact, if I had to choose between watching Twilight and stabbing myself in the eye with a pencil, I would definitely choose the latter. Although it may seem more painful than watching Twilight, it’s actually less painful than watching Twilight.
But, hey, I’m sure it’ll do well. Crap has always done well and this is no expection.

Our future, ladies and gentlemen. I’ll be over there weeping with mheister.
Movie will do well on opening weekend for sure. To many people across this country loved the books, especially young girls who are tech savvy and they will turn out in droves to see this movie. Turnout problems will be in the following weeks after the opening and for the sequels. I have friends who have seen the movie. They said the director stayed in line with the books, which is a good thing for the fans but a bad thing for anyone over 21. I guess there is nothing to hold anyone’s attention besides those who already know the story. Supposedly it’s kind of slow and boring too. And the casting was really bad. All the actors are cute, but they can’t act. My prediction: $30 million opening. $50 million overall.
I too expect it to do extremely well opening weekend and then have a major drop-off. The story, which I’ve read, is just plain stupid. (Sorry, fans, but it is.) However, if the movie looks pretty enough, it’s possible it could attract more people than I’m expecting.
I don’t know what all you haters are talking about.I’ve read the books and they are amazing. If you hate Twilight so much why are you looking up articles about the movie and leaving comments? I call that sad. And all of the actors for the movie are exactly what I saw in my head. They are pretty good at acting, too, except for the girl that is playing Bella. She sort of sucks at acting. That is all I have to say.
Harold doesn’t know a&$@! I’m a 35 yr. old hottie with a college degree. Just because you’re an arrogant male doesn’t mean you can pass judgement on Twilight fans! Keep your chauvinist opinions to yourself!
