This comes as something of a surprise since Kathleen Kennedy’s and Frank Marshall’s production company has been a fixture at Universal and they’re marquee names. But that was before all the cost-cutting with studios under pressure to reshape their term deals. I’m hearing Kennedy/Marshall may land at DreamWorks 2.0 before too long. Makes sense because of their long relationship with Steven Spielberg. Universal also isn’t renewing director Darren Aronfsky, even though The Wrestler is Oscar touted. Then again, he’s not exactly a commercial helmer.

Very surprised to hear that such a successful duo who have brought highly praised films will be let go. Any information if this situation will impact the proposed fourth installment of the Jason Bourne franchise?
Thank you.
Gobsmacked by this. They must have been very costly to keep. Otherwise, can’t imagine why Universal would make such a boneheaded move.
I think that they were the reason why M. Knight’s first 3 movies were watchable.
I’m surprised that Uni would have done this…current economy aside, I’m surprised they wouldnt have kept them on nonetheless.
I agree with Nikki that DW 2.0 is likely.
This seems like a foolish move from U., unless the cost was waaay too much for the overhead. But K/M will most assuredly wind up at DW2.0 – they’ve made too many successful films w. Steven et al for K/M simply to go on their own.
Talk about cutting off your nose….I am shorting Uni immediately..
A shocking move, even if tighter times.
Well, think about it. If K-M goes to Dreamworks 2.0, Uni will still have them, in a way, because of the distribution deal DW has with Uni. And Uni won’t have to pay their overhead. But how will DW support all their deals — Parkes-McDonald, Red Hour, Kurtzman & Orci, etc. — with no money yet? It means a cage match for producers for money and distribution slots. (And yeah, I read the chipper post about how the rest of the DW deal will be funded by April…we’ll see…who really is going to want to buy those bonds in this market?)
