Marley and Me? You’re joking right? That movie looks like pure crap, although Variety gave it a praising review so uhhh…
Im seeing Benjamin Button tomorrow, can’t wait
Wow. Who knows Marley and Me will edge out the rest of the lots!
Seems like a winner with many. Guess I will be spending my dollar on it this weekend
MARLEY & ME is supposed to be unwatchable. Online sales may be strong, but the movie will die a quick death like its studio sister movie, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.
Looks like Valkyrie won’t be the cruising vehicle Tom needed for a comeback. When will the studios realize this guy is a dud. If someone basis their entire career on being a leading man (a movie star rather than artist), sooner or later their appeal fades as they get older and audiences get younger. Tom has never been anything but Tom Cruise. That’s the problem, the man became larger than his roles. The exception being his hilarious turn in Tropic Thunder but otherwise he deosn’t disappear into his characters. Same thing happening with Will Smith. I mean how many times do we have to see Smith as the superhero/savior without wanting to cut off his self-righteous balls? He’s a horrible actor yet they still keep plugging him in films. As 2009 approaches I think Hollywood needs to take advantage of a new year and make a resolution to reach out to new actors and new material because this rehash isn’t going to improve the BO.
Yeah, and wasn’t DESPEREAUX leading the pack last week in pre-sales?
Its grosses weren’t exactly overwhemling…
Marley and Me is taking advantage of the season. Tis the season for mushy, family oriented films. Also, it has the success of the book to guarantee some success. It certainly isn’t because of Jennifer Aniston. She is much like Tom Cruise, plays every character the same way.
Regarding Tom, MI3 might have been a success but put in perspective, it was part of a trail of diminishing box office returns for Cruise. Then came the infamous couch jumping event. While the Minivan Mafia loves him, he’s lost too big a chunk of his fanbase to ever truly recover to where he once was. He can credit Scientology for building his career and now he can credit it with irreparably damaging it, too.
jbb, Cruise star didn’t start to fall until he went psycho on National television. If he didn’t go all Christian Bale on the world, his movie will still be making money.Smith on the other hands has been damn near teflon for years, and one bad film is not going to do much to stop his brand.Seven Pounds is a drama made in the middle of the worst financial crisis in decade; I doubt many people wanted to see such a downer at the moment. Not to say the Seven Pounds is a complete dud, since it hasn’t run it’s entire theatrical course and it has made nineteen million domestically, against a fifty five million dollar budget. So until Smith fails in a big budget blockbuster, he’s still a bankable star. Also, if Cruise can really reshape his image, he too will be back making decent to good returns for studios.
“If someone basis their entire career on being a leading man (a movie star rather than artist), sooner or later their appeal fades as they get older and audiences get younger”
Seriously, if this statement were true, how does Adam Sandler,Nicholas Cage, and Ben Stiller still have careers?
Since when is 20-25 million for a Tom Cruise flick not a flop? This is an expensive film with a huge marketing push (I think the only thing Tom Cruise didn’t do was show up at my house to ask me personally to see the film). Normally one would expect a Tom Cruise “Thriller” to open huge. Boy, you really do love the MGM marketing team.
how sexist of you – marley is really an aniston pic
Marley and me Is a very good movie. Take the kids.
NO MORE ANISTON MOVIES
It would seem that Jennifer Aniston continues to give Brad Pitt a run for his money…
I love jennifer as an actress and as a woman for keeping her head up and taking the high road despite the whores in her life she was subjected to…May they rot in hell. Adultery is a sin. I will pay to see Marley and me anyday. As for Changeling and Benjamin button, I’ll wait until it comes out on cable. HAHA
