UPDATE: I’ve just confirmed that Guy Stodel will take over from Nick Meyer at Paramount Vantage to oversee that division and report to John Lesher. “The focus will be on acquisitions and international productions,” an insider tells me.

the sky is really falling
about time! wonder if he’s smart enough to know that lesher set him up for failure!
So there goes that- counting on Stodel to acquire shit is like hoping Lesher gets a personality- ain’t gonna happen.
Nick’s a great guy, and one of the best businessmen in town.
He will land well, and the place that gets him will be lucky to have him.
It’s a sad day for the industry as cuts are being made and people losing their jobs, just before Christmas. I’m sure Nick was good at his job and it’s probably just a budget thing. Having said that, I’ve worked with Guy and always liked and respected him. So I’m happy for him and sympathetic to Nick and the other bodies in the wake of Hollywood downsizing.
How bout getting rid of the prick Lesher!!
And amazing for a division that laid off people a few months ago, it’s just getting another overpaid exec. Why dont you just get rid of Vantage all together and let the other overpaid Paramount execs. do the job.
Looks like a couple of you have not had your calls returned by Lesher. Boo fucking hoo. The guy was an A+ agent and his ascention up the Paramount Corp. ladder or any other for that matter should come as no surprise. Not sure Grey courted him for his personality in the first place.
anybody but GUY……………….
Guy Stodel? Hahahahahahahahaha! He couldn’t find a good movie if you dropped him off in the “directors” section at Vidiots. Crap sure floats in this town…
if myer spent more time focusing on the job at hand rather than swinging his dick around and playing with his blackberry 24/7 he might be still there – ego run wild.
Hey, this one’s easy — Meyer is a good guy, Stodel is a good guy. Yeah, the exec shuffle is a zero-sum game, but I’ve got a feeling half the people ragging on either one of these guys has never worked with either one a day in their lives. Can you say ‘bitter d-boy’?
Beauty of Nikki’s open comment boards: Anyone can post.
Tragedy of Nikki’s open comment boards: Anyone can post. And often do.
a long long time ago, in a gaxlaxy far far away, Nick used to sell little movies to little buyers and was a typical sales guy. Didn’t have a clue about movies, didn’t have any passion for film, loved the money. Why would anyone think that a specialty division could suceed with no passion at the top. Say what you like about execs such as Barker and Shamus – these guys live for films and passionate film makers. At least they can reference film made before 1998. He’ll go back to sales and continue making bick bucks.
very sorry to hear about meyer. He really was one of the good guys in this industry. He motivated his people to want to be the best they could be and applied the same standards to himself as he did to employees. Anyone who really knows him- knows that he didn’t change.
look what lesher did got the job overspent millions pushing movies to get oscar nominations sucking up to the uncharged felon grey along the way so he could get promoted to run the studio and once he had the job figured out that he had lost all those millions so in his first official act fired everyone who he had hired proving that all he cared about was himself look at all the havoc he wreaked the independent business is an excellent business if its done the way searchlight does it but sucks if you have a moron like lesher doing it for his own personal aggrandisement with no understanding of distribution with dreamworks gone its only a matter of time before dauman figures out that grey and lesher know nothing about how to make tentpole films
Thank you, e e cummings.
Why all the emphasis on whether or not Meyer’s a “nice guy?” The man has the taste of a ten year old and should never have had creative control over his own screensaver. No doubt he’ll be able to find another position that suits him. I’ll save my sadness for the 99 other Paramount employees who were canned and may not have such cushy options right now.
count me in as one of the people that think Nick is good people that got caught up in a no-win situation… they made him the bad-guy for slashing Vantage and how he’s out too… sad.
The real person with taste at knowledge at Vantage was Rob Schulze. They got rid of him because he knew more than both Lesher and Meyer. Lets not cry for meyer. Lets cry for the rest of Vantage that are still pounding the pavement because of incompetence at the top
for those last few who apparently don’t know the story Lesher was so hated at endeavor that he tried to go to caa. when 2 top caa agents found out they went to mgmt and said they’d quit if he came over. caa quickly withdrew the offer. everyone at endeavor then found out the story and he was forced to leave for par. sucks being an asshole i guess
did he try to go or get an offer? Was he not also offered the PAR job earlier w/o taking it? Endeavor didn’t seem to mind rep-ing Scorcese among others. Oh and can you please make the distinction for me between being an asshole and being an agent? heck of a job, truedat.
Glad to hear this news. He’s a dick and has been ever since his quick rise at UTA. Good riddance.
I can confirm Lesher’s just as pervasively hated at Paramount
Like I said, Bring back Gordon Weaver. Early 70′s
Gulf and Western icon. You know who that is..
Support heavy metal music, bring it back, we need it now.
gee whiz..Paramount people pounding the pavement. If any of you H-wood dips knew people like Nick Meyer as regular people, instead of the faces on top of suits, then you would have the utmost respect and support for him as a good guy in a world of bad.
If anybody realy knows him, they will know he’s is one of the best people in Hollywood to work for/with. All else is just pure spite.
