I'm told that SAG executive director and chief negotiator Doug Allen send this message to the SAG National Boar toay responding to the 131 actors, many of them stars, who announced they are voting "no" on the Strike Authorization ballot:
To: SAG National Board of Directors
We received the email below earlier today from a group of SAG members regarding the upcoming strike authorization vote. Unfortunately, the vast majority of those who signed on have not attended informational meetings and have not taken the opportunity to learn the facts directly from Screen Actors Guild. Clearly, the AMPTP's rhetoric has had the desired effect.
We encourage every actor who put their name on this letter to attend the SAG member Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, December 17 at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel at 7 p.m. We believe every SAG member should know the facts and cast an informed vote on this critical referendum.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

So alan, EVERYONE on the list did not read or hear about YOUR “official” SAG party line and are ingnorant in signing the letter? Furst, it would have been impossible for all to attend the H’Wood meeting as it was booked in a tiny venue, second your assumption that since they signed the letter they could not have possibly visited sag.com or read their mail is anamazingly arrogant, foolish and insulting remark coming from the president of the Guild! You are not GOD and members can think for themselves!!!! Hang on baby, you’re in for a rough ride and you’re not wearing a lifejacket.
Oh come on – now Doug is calling anyone who disagrees with him stupid. Just because you differ doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re talking about.
Then sign this agreement! Fact is, most members haven’t actually read this awful contract. It is awful and make no mistake about it, it will be permanent. If you think the unions will suddenly unite in three years after the DGA and AFTRA sold everyone out BEFORE the recession, then you’re kidding yourself. We have gone through this with cable and DVD which the producers promised to compensate properly down the road. Well, now DVD increases are a non-starter. If the actors let themselves get suckered for a third time with the internet, then it’s their own fault for being so stupid.
And to all the stars who are also PRODUCERS, it’s called a CONFLICT OF INTEREST. You already tip the production budgets in your favor so absurdly that the rest of us are trapped in day player land without healthcare. Thanks but no thanks. I believe we already have a means to safeguard our interests against corporate abuse — it’s called a UNION.
The economy is terrible and after we ratify this garbage contract, actors will get to enjoy it permanently.
Here’s your rope… go sign it all away.
Wednesday at the Hollywood Renaissance, 7 p.m.
Every Union and Guild should use this opportunity to reinforce the “NO STRIKE” call put out by so many. IATSE, AFTRA, DGA, WGA…. All of us hold an interest in a unified talk in 3 years…
UNITY in 2011!
The truth of the 131 that signed the letter is that most of them will not be affected by this contract no matter what it says. They live in negotiations of their own and many are also producers (which IS a Conflict of Interest). This contract is ripping the fabric of being a Union actor and I fear that many will be tempted to vote NO for authorization simply because of the current economy…not realizing that it will effectively lock in horrible terms that won’t be changed ever by the AMPTA. Once it is approved we can’t take it back. A strike may be the only way to get any real terms. If not the days of the Union actor may be numbered as everything new media will eventually become all media.
I support our SAG team 100%. The AMPTP is only out for themselves and are UNION BUSTERS. If we do not unite we will fall. Trust me !! I am a long term union employee and have seen the worst in other companies. Learn from the past. The AMPTP is not our friends. They would put monkeys in every production and feed them bananas if they could. Its a new media world and the producers will do all they can to but the cards in their favor. VOTE YES on the strike vote. Don’t worry about what everyone else says. They ALL make more than actors. Craft services, PA’s, Grips, Etc. EVERYONE. Come on $23 for 6 months of reruns on the web. Wow. I’m gonna go buy some new socks. And 40 cents a mile when when the IRS standard is 56 cents. The AMPTP should get more into reality. I hope ALL of those SOB’s loose their homes if they cause us to strike.
Yes I am a Proud SAG Member. And am willing to go to all ends to support OUR UNION.
