I just received this email from inside William Morris: ”WMA, despite losing nearly every client they’ve ever had and despite the cratered economy, has gone ahead and given sweet holiday gifts to all assistants and support staff: Amazon Kindles. Everyone’s overjoyed and quite surprised. It might even outdo the goodwill garnered by the iPod gifting of 2006. (… Last year lumps of coal were passed out as a result of the writer’s strike.)”
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

That’s the nicest news we’ve heard all month. Thanks
I was wondering why there was an influx of Kindles posted on Craigslist today.
do you mean craigkestelslist
Jim Wiatt made time to hand out the Kindles himself, thanking us for our hard work.
that’s a great idea, it will help them green up too since scripts can be read on those bad boys.
So Elliot,
What you’re saying is that they gave them a xmas gift so they can work more?
I didn’t realize a $359 item (retail) can buy good will for a year of indentured servitude.
Not sure about the scripts part? I didn’t think Kindle read .pdf’s or final draft files?
And most people don’t write their screenplays in word. Also, I don’t think you can make notes on Kindle either.
Scripts on Kindle…not so much, yet. formatting still screwy.
yeah you can email a pdf of a script to a kindle and it displays, but as has been pointed out the formatting is screwy.
a better choice is the latest line of e-ink based readers from i-rex. the new line has 10.4″ screens – so they fit an 8.5″ x 11″ page quite nicely.
GREAT for reading scripts – I can carry enough scripts to last a lifetime in the space and weight of one hard copy. unfortunately the software on the irex BLOWS but it’s truly a great device for reading scripts. i’ve been thinking about pinging some agency heads to promote their use. as soon as the software is better..
There is free software available to allow Kindle users to view PDFs, but I haven’t tried. Enjoy.
No way you can read scripts on the kindle, but you can take notes. Great for reading books, traveling…but it reformats any type of screenplay or play your try to get on it.
Actually, you can make notes on the Kindle (and easily look up words with an on board dictionary). Amazon needs to fix it so scripts will format correctly. Just think, agents could send secured specs that can’t be copied. Sweet!
Wow. Some present. Can’t do the ePub eBook file standard print publishers have adopted and can’t borrow free books from public libraries.
Do they rep Oprah?
