It’s a real loss for Gersh’s Alex Yarosh since, working in 2nd position to her longtime manager Bill Perlman, he helped make Tisdale into a big moneymaker after three High School Musical installments — two for TV, the third as a hit feature film — and a solo singing career and now as a TV show producer. In August 2008, Forbes listed Ashley among Hollywood’s 10 top-paid young entertainers, and in December ranked her #17 among Forbes “High Earners Under 30″. She will star in 20th Century Fox’s new adventure comedy, They Came From Upstairs, this July. And her own production company, Blondie Girl Productions, is working on a Disney Channel series based on her early life as well as with FremantleMedia on a reality show. There is no way anyone can argue he didn’t take her tween stardom and make the most of it. So I can only imagine CAA’s pitch to her.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

I can’t believe she’s in the Top 10 Young Entertainers…. She can’t even act.
two words: punky/brewster
That’s just terrible. Alex is a decent guy who clearly worked hard to turn this mediocre talent into a commodity. This is how he’s repaid? Vile. I look forward to the day when this girl with a face only Picasso could love is wheedling to get on a revamped Hollywood Squares.
Shame on her for being disloyal.
I have been subjected to countless hours of Disney programming and I have to say, she is pretty good for what she does. She’s 22 and plays a 16-year old on tv, bumped up to a 17-year old in the High School movies, in which she is very well cast.
I feel bad for the agent that did all the heavy lifting for how many years, only to get dumped now. Her career is at the cliff’s edge now that the HSM movies are done, she’ll either make it as a grownup or she won’t, and switching now may not have been her best move. There’s no shortage of cute early 20s blondes in Hollywood who can sing, act and dance.
Do you think the CAA pitch included a slide show of famous brands like coke and mercedes, followed by a picture of her?
It’s a shame. He developed Blake Lively as well and lost her to CAA.
didnt abby bluestone find her, put her in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and then Yarosh took her?
Always funny to watch these actors leave the agents that launched their careers, then go nowhere…. If they don’t have the confidence in themselves to remain loyal, then they are usually compensating for the lack of something else – namely talent.
One does have to wonder why he didn’t leave Gersh when he had clients like Tisdale and Lively…? I mean, it’s not like he couldn’t have found a better deal. Don’t these agencies try poaching one another as often as they do the clients?
Ashley is done she’s finished because she destroyed her unique look with an ill-advised nose job the same way Jennifer Grey destroyed her unique beauty by getting her gorgeous nose chopped off. Ashley looks like she’s been mutilated and she’s ugly now. You’re toast now my dear. Your career is over. And all because you had to get your nose chopped. You are no longer uniquely attractive. You are stone cold ugly now. You never had much talent to start with but that cute little bump in your nose made you a star. Go talk to Jennifer Grey she’ll tell you how her career ended because nobody recognized her after her nose job.
What a vile bitch. The sad thing is she barely has an ounce of talent.
She was going to stay with Gersh, but then CAA offered to buy her another new nose.
She signed on the spot.
I’m sure there pitch was, “Look, Abby Bluestone got you in with Disney which got you High School Musical and the Disney machine has been responsible for most of your success since. Do you want to live and die by the Mouse or take the next step as an actress? You can stay where you are and do more straight-to-video films or features with Andy Richter and Tim Meadows or you can come here and enter the big time.”
Granted, the real question might be, why is CAA interested? Do people really think she’s going to be bringing in money in three years? I think she could be great second or third lead in a sit-com but I’m not seeing big time star there.
I would have rather seen CAA just take the agent ala their move taking Warren Zavala. Instead this just makes Ashley look like she just sucks at life… which she does.
i guess gersh couldn’t find her a movie on that 18 page deep studio grid of theirs.
Leland & All Hat: CAA has stated point blank that they feel it is easier & cheaper to just take the client than have to pay a salary, benefits & expenses for another agent. Welcome to the representation business in a faltering economy.
yarosh is a great agent……she just got mixed up in the caa factory
What does it say about me that I’ve never heard of Ashley Tisdale? Excuse me while I go back to watching Turner Classic Movies.
People who say she is not talented clearly have not seen her act. She is extremely talented. She can act, sing and dance – and I mean that in a Bette Midler kind of way. She has record deals, TV deals, movie deals. She’s a huge star among the people who have seen her – ie. kids, and guess who Hollywood makes movies for. You think they make Iron Man 2 for grown ups? She’s not that deep. She’s no Meryl Streep. But neither is Sandra Bullock and Ashley Tisdale is way more talented than she ever was. Nose job aside, she’s good.
Gersh is by far the worst agency in town. They are unresponsive and fragmented. It would not surprise me if they are swallowed up at some point.
Thank you.
The only high school musical star who seems to be going anywhere is Zac Efron but if his next two films outside of Disney flop, then where does he go? and Vanessa Hudgens is just riding his coattails…
CAA built me up – took the time and energy it needed. I would never leave – they’ve done all they promised.
Granted, it was a little Coke Logo-y at the pitch.
HA!
Ashley has been working since she was 3 yrs old, with a variety of agents. No agent can really take credit for a 20 year career, and Disney is not her only work product. Look at her IMDb–it predates Alex by a long way, and by the time any child actor gets to Gersh (or Innovative, or CAA) they have already been built by some other agent in the kid world who got screwed when the talent left.
As for loyalty, Ashley has been with the same manager her entire life, Bill Perlman at New Talent Management. HE should be credited with building a slow and steady career that is transitioning quite nicely into the adult world so far (she’s 23)–with no Britney/Lindsay behavior.
Give her a break.
No Actually it was her manager Bill Perlman who put her in HS Musical. They left Innovative because Bluestone dropped the ball and was basically useless as an agent.
alex is an incredible agent and great guy. period. her loss.
I say it every time:
CAA = Collecting All Actresses
Not that they can keep them all working….
