I’m told that the board of the Motion Picture And Television Fund decided to fire its PR flack, 42West partner Allan Mayer, because of the way he handled (more like mishandled, in my opinion) last week’s unexpected announcement of the closing the MPTF’s acute care hospital and long term care nursing home by the end of the year, resulting in a huge outcry from the showbiz community.

WHO CARES whether or not their PR person could lie for a sufficient length of time?
The underlying facts are still as offensive!
The MPTF needs to ADDRESS THE PROBLEM!!!!
Good, and now that they’ve shot the messenger, let us continue on, to see the heads roll of the entire board and anyone else responsible, who with out so much as a “by your leave” put this embarasingly, self-serving, shortsighted plan into action! I cant wait until someone gets to the bottom of this and we find out what the real motive was behind this scheme to disenfranchise all of us industry lifers. -Don’t you believe for one second it’s about the money.
So does that mean they’ve reconsidered the closing or are they just pissed off the press turned against them and they fired the scape goat?
isn’t this just a case of shooting the messenger when the beancounters at MPTF should be under scrutiny?
Yeah, it’s shooting the messenger. But as a BTLer, it was a slap in the face to hear on the web about such an event without first being told by the MPTF. I did get a letter by the end of the week, but could barely read it since I was apoplectic about the mess.
Maybe they wouldn’t need to close if money was spent on healthcare instead of PR.
Don’t worry! Obama’s health plan is gone cover us. Thats what the studios are expecting. Then they can keep more profit!
