I’m told there were some firings at Fox Home Entertainment. My studio sources confirm that Steve Feldstein, Dorrit Ragosine and Chris Reichert were all dismissed. There are lots of rumors as to the reason why, some very juicy, but all I can squeeze out of insiders is that there were hush-hush “policy issues”. Others describe the execs as very competent and express shock that the trio lost their jobs. I’ve got to get on a plane heading to the East Coast again for family business tonight. So I won’t be able to post more about this or other topics before Wednesday.

Am I crazy or does anyone else smell a turkey with the Jimmy Fallon show? Is this guy’s schtick going to work when it comes to interviewing people? He was a failed movie star. Funnish on SNL. I don’t know. I like the guy but something leaves me feeling uneasy about this show.
Are we so creatively tapped that we cannot find new talent. Let’s be Honest hear, can we? Carson Daly – - borrrring. Jon Stewart — smart but, boring. Jimmy Kimmel – - Not even your sixth funniest friend. Dumpy looking too. Colbert – - never going to cross over. Bill Mahr — terrific. Larry King — enough. Those faces (ticks) when he cuts to commercial are out of control. Charlie Rose – - the best!
Thank you.
Very shocked to hear this. I’ve known and worked with Steve and the Fox team for years. Steve is scary smart and has displayed a tireless work ethic and unwavering integrity on every project we’ve worked on together. Not to mention a great sense of humor. Any company would be lucky to have him. Hope this isn’t true.
This is too shocking for me.
I’ve worked with Steve for many years and he has been nothing but professional.
This must be some sort of conspiracy.
I have no idea what this is all about, but I do know Feldstein and he is a tough, hard-working, creative guy who brings a welcome dose of real-world perspective to his job.
I’m shocked and amazed. Having worked with all three of these talented execs over the years, I always found them to be outstanding at what they do and a pleasure to work with.
I’m confident they’ll each land on their feet sooner rather than later and personally look forward to working with Steve, Dorrit and Chris again wherever they end up.
Maybe if they hadn’t locked out their workers this summer than they would have some profits to look forward to. No it’s much better to watch the company tank and tell SAG I told you so over pennies that they only have to pay once a sale has been made. Ha HA HA! Now you know how it feels.
What did three video execs have to do with dealings with the guilds?
These firings are probably due to the fact that overall sales are down… Fox probably had a lousy 4th quarter and holiday season in DVD sales. Probably the 24 TV Movie DVD release just bombed big time and of course all of those Buy One Get One Free Sales at FYE stores across the country goes to prove the glut of Fox DVD titles in stores that can’t get sold off. Fox which also distributes MGM titles used to make a very nice profit off of Feldstein’s division and this would contribute nicely to earnings. Probably what Fox Home Entertainment Needs right now is some new fresh marketing ideas, they need to also be sure that stores don’t have a glut of extra Fox product on their shelves which only cheapen those brands future worth to consumers. Fox Home Entertainment distribution does do a great job filling stores like Walmart, Kmart, Frys, Best Buy, Target etc. with the glut of product that is sitting in their warehouse. Cheers to the Factory in Valencia.. whoever is running that “sell off our glut of factory titles division” gets big applause from me. That person annually does a fantastic job.
The trend is to cut the big salary earners, bring in young people who can be molded to exact methods particular to that organization, in essense get a twofer…as for Fallon, he’s just really terrific at any brand of comedy.
I am beyond shocked to hear that Steve was let go. He has been with the company for many years and is a TREMENDOUSLY talented executive who managed to do an outstanding job while keeping things lively. It’s a major loss for Fox that they let him go—nobody does it better then Steve.
Steve Feldstein has long been one of the most professional, honest and effective publicists in Hollywood. I hope these rumors aren’t true. If they are, Fox will have suffered a great loss.
If they are having issues with non-library DVD sales maybe they will get the hint that their theatrical output needs more TLC than it’s been getting for a while now.
That said if they get some of their evergreen stuff on Blu Ray the early adopters will evangelize for them for a bit. Of course this would take some investment on their part beyond what it would simply take to dump barely supervised transfers into stores.
You know who should be fired? Tom Rothman. Incompetent clueless fuckhead who doesn’t give a shit about movies. Well, not about their quality, anyway. He only cares about how much money they make. So, potentially good movies get fucked in the ass because Mr. Rothman just had to get his greedy hands on them. Not to make them better, of course. No, to make them more commercial. In other words, he completely ruins those movies.
Ditch that motherfucker straight away. He’s a cancer that must be eliminated.
In a good economy, with discretionary spending, consumers will take a chance on crap.
But in a bad economy, crap simply doesn’t sell.
Seems wrong to fire the DVD guys. I mean, if I recall correctly, FOX didn’t exactly have a great couple of years with theatrical releases.
You know the old computer saying, “Garbage in, garbage out.”
Or is that my colon cleanse?
Wow JaimeLyne – bet you’re one of those fools a professional just can’t and won’t suffer. Fox is such a toxic place that raging and self-obsessed is a job requirement. these three are lucky to be out of there.
Hush hush “policy issues” sounds like studiospeak for witchhunt and we shit on people so we don’t have to pay them. The guy was apparently there forever and was likely making good coin (that’s relative considering Fox is the cheapest place on earth) and the DVD biz is circling the drain.
Why is PR always the first thing that gets cut?
I’m an ex-fox employee. Never had direct contact w/ Feldstein but he had a rep for being an overbearing blowhard. However, i do think he was respected for the job he did, not his personality. Seems like he and the others are taking the fall for some truly horrid fox releases these past few years, their movies are such an embarassment. I do wonder if there was some sexually related scandal though, Steve had a rep for being un-P.C. (in a queer way).
Gee Anthony, you should talk to a professional about those anger issues of yours. Seems Feldstein must’ve gotten the better of you or like JamieLyne above you’re just another fool that that a pro can’t/won’t suffer.
Steve is a blowhard. But good at getting things done. Sure he’s rough around the edges…but dedicated.
I’ve worked directly for Steve Feldstein and can say, unequivocally, that he is the best boss and mentor ever. He’s wildly creative, strategically sound and inspiring and encouraging to colleagues and staff.
Those of you spewing venom are clearly the ones who are unprofessional and have obviously never worked with the man. Sure, he’s tough and has a big personality. He is also an aggressive advocate that is driven to win/succeed at whatever he’s doing.
In this industry known for wretched excess, out-of-control egos and finger-pointing blamers, Steve’s a stand-up guy – the cool head that prevails when everyone else is freaking out – and an incredible asset to any company or team.
In case I’m being too polite, here’s the vernacular: Fuck all of you malcontents, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Everything posted here about Steve is completely true. The bad AND the good…which makes him so unique. Steve will buy and sell all of us in about 3 years…watch and learn.
feldstein is a rarity – a free thinker and a shoot from the hip exec is a town full of mousy yes-people. this is fox’s loss. he’ll resurface somewhere huge and have the last, incredibly loud, incredibly in-your-face laugh. and to those of you who felt hurt by him, or offended, or that he was to loud – get a fucking backbone.
It is interesting that all of Steve’s supporters use expletives. Coincidence? I think not.
Steve was a very competent individual and part of me is very sorry to see that he was fired. However, let’s face it, he was one of the biggest assholes in the industry. He thrived on intimidation and it wasn’t until someone fought back at him that he earned their respect. What else would you call a person like that? As for Dorrit? She was never particularly nice to anyone either. The studio really needs to put someone in place there that has the business style and grace of Peter Staddon who is sorely missed by everyone who dealt with him. I suspect Steve and Dorrit will resurface as wardens in some maximum security prison.
Despite what I’ve heard about Steve, I’ve met him twice during my travels and he’s always played it cool for PR. I’ve seen only his friendliest side and not the negative of what is written here. When working with my job position (I criticize Fox product), he’s done his work well.
