This isn’t a spoof by some wannabe from Kansas. It was posted on The New York Times website. I’m embarrassed for David Carr and bewildered why he’d do it.

Eh, funny no, shocking no, sarcastic a lil bit.
Another example of a writer thinking he is too cool for school.
Not so much crazy as it was lame.
This is hardly as embarrassing as the rest of the daily New York Times Online.
“why he’d do it.”
Cocaine is a helluva drug? The man smoked crack for years on end.
…a ‘wannabe from Kansas’ would have actually made a point in his or her ~2 minutes of YouTube time. And he/she might have been funny or clever or have left the viewer with some positive impression.
This however is an embarassing waste of bandwidth bearing the NY Times brand. And in service of the coverage of a bunch of awards the public really doesn’t care much about. Sad.
It’s really not that embarrassing… just laaame..
ok yeah maybe it IS embarrassing… I pity the fool!
C’mon, it’s The Carpetbagger! His usual red-carpet coverage or film-fest-goer interviews hardly set the bar any higher than this clip reaches.
Embarrassed for him? WHY? Some things work better than others but this isn’t so outlandish that you can’t look the guy in the face next time you see him. Lighten up Niki.
Back away from the vodka and Bubba Kush David.
The strain is starting to show.
This video is to alcohol what “red asphault” was to driving.
take it easy. it’s an ineffective spoof. what’s the big deal?
this fool has been under the misguided impression that what he says
matters. if ever there was a text book example of a self deluded
idiot, carr is it.
i’m still disgusted with his magazine story retelling his halcyon days
of being a crack addict.
the emperor has no clothes and the body should not be seen in public
aside from a freak show.
I think you all miss the fact that he’s making fun of himself while doing this. If you follow his video series you’ll get that. He is one of the few people out there who covers the Oscars with a light touch. Everyone else is so deadly serious. I thought it was funny — and timely. He knows that the story of the season was whether or not The Dark Knight would be shunned or embraced. But to suggest that he did it because we was on crack is beyond what is called for here. We all say things online we would never dare say in person so that makes us all a bunch of cowards. We are what we all hoped we would never become.
I think the video is funny and entertaining. I “daily” read the NYTIMES.com and Carpetbagger. Get off the high horse and understand that The Dark Knight was the top grossing film of the year, second all time. The people have spoken, unfortunately the Academy won’t likely listen.
Can you even embarrass anyone working for The Times anymore by slagging their journalistic integrity? Seems moot.
Um…seriously guys, why so serious? It was a pretty harmless joke, it’s not like he was competing for some comedy awards trophy. It was slightly funny and a little disturbing, and in the end just icing on the cake of Carr’s typical spot-on Oscar predictions.
Agree with DC above, just read the “corrections” sections of the NYT every day, they’re already beyond embarrassment.
I would have to agree with Sasha. Everyone needs to lighten up. The Carpetbagger has been my only source for awards season news since its inception 4 years ago and that is Carr’s humor. He is self-deprecating, insightful, and occasionally his humor falls flat. Big deal.
Note to readers under 30: The NYTimes used to be a newspaper with a reputation for not only quality but also journalistic integrity.
