I hear 2 agents – one lit, one marketing – and 10 assistants gone in one fell swoop.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

just one I would like to hear that instead of firing people who can barely pay their rent, that useless executives are all taking a pay cut.
That sucks… what’s with firing 10 assistants? People gonna start answering their own phones over there?
APA isn’t letting people go…they hired 5 people this month
Yeah, 5 Volunteers.
Frank Reina and Leah Hennessy were among the casualties. Such a classy move by Department Heads Andrew Rogers, Steve Small and Michael Lazo to wait until Friday at 6:30 pm to inform people that they’re out of a job.
And yet strangely they continue to have room in the budget to keep Nate Bryson employed…
my boss did that to me a few years ago. Producer with a term deal at Sony, it’s a very traumatic thing to do to anyone, same classy behavior. whatever, it’s showbiz, everyone survives, I Escaped, some just rack up bad karma and lousy boxoffice
well, well, well, I just learned it was said para-dime.
Always thought, for a decade, it was para-dig-ham.
And no one ever said I was wrong.
And I even did biz with them off and on thru the years.
then you have reading issues
Frankie is a good guy. He will do just fine.
Sad but welcome to our current economic state. Everyone everywhere in every industry is cutting back and laying off. Everyone should be fearful of layoffs and paycuts. The corporate entities that don’t will (and are) suffer the consequences.
Anyone out there holding their breath for Obama’s big “change”??? Good luck with that…
This has been going on there for months. Rich Freeman and Rich Heuners were quietly let go late last year, and Ken Greenblatt recently left on his own to pursue another career. Among assistants, there’s been a steady stream of layoffs since the beginning of the year, including Friday’s that also included lit coordinators and some junior agents.
To all the haters out there who blame management and name names–I got a career tip for you–As with any business, normally it’s a pay for performance type of thing. Ask any salesman, athlete etc.
You have something to sell, or you sell it. That’s how it works. If you can’t do either, you don’t get a chair–especially in tough times. So all you Hollywood cry babies who shouldn’t be here–goodbye. It ain’t a charity. Hollywood doesn’t owe you anything–and neither does Paradigm. Sell something, or create something to sell. Your not little Angel’s either, trying to push that smut, violence, and nonsense on society and then getting mad when you got “cheated” out of that desk when you ain’t got sh*t going on!!
Stop hating, stop naming names, and stop posturing–get to work, or go see Joe Blaze on youtube to get some life coaching and figure it the f*ck out. And to those still sellin’ in Hollywood–congrats, let’s pop a bottle!! All those above comments are by rediculous people–just when is it the right time to fire someone–it’s never–so I guess it had to be Friday at 6:30 so they all could get drunk like they usually do.
Frank Reina is as big of a moron as there is out there. How he had a job always amazed me. He sees the 2nd rate clients out and doesn’t even know they are clients. About as bad as a negotiator as could be. Paradigm needs to get rid of the moronic agents like him in order to really compete out there.
It’s standard operating procedure at most businesses to fire someone on a Friday, end of day. Less chance of an incident and they have the weekend to cool off and not go postal the next morning.
Rich Hueners was let go too? I work with the agency and I didn’t even notice. Yet another example of why Paradigm can’t compete with the big boys. They just don’t have the internal talent.
Stop hatin Sebastian Lee…
Is this cost cutting procedure or something more?
Everyone is firing – it’s part of today’s world (welcome to it Barack!). What Paradigm needs is an image to identify it. What IS Paradigm? CAA is uberagency with big stars, Endeavor remains ‘upstarts’ known for developing (yeah, whatever), ICM now has a big lit dept., WMA is known for music and corporate and UTA is (was?) known for comedy. BRANDING people – that’s what U’re paid for!
Paradigm is Innovative with money…nothing special and run of the mill agenting.
Possible merger?
“Paradigm is Innovative with money…nothing special and run of the mill agenting.”
Good to see you are so proud of the place you work with. Have ever you worked at Innovative or with them? Just curious.
APA did not hire for the record, they let go of at least a couple of agents (and no I don’t name names here, these are human beings all you cowards gossip about here).
In their defense– I believe Paradigm didn’t layoff a single person during the WGA strike even though, under the circumstances, they would have been justified to do so. With the continued uncertainty of the SAG contract and the severe recession it doesn’t surprise me that they now have to start looking for ways to cut expenses.
FOR THE FINAL RECORD, and to correct Alex X.
In the last 2 months, APA has hired 4 new mailroom staff, 2 new assistants, and 5 agents. They let go of one agent in that time, and nobody else. They also promoted 3 mailroom staffers to assistants. APA is growing.
trust. i worked at paradigm for over a year; looking back now it felt like a waste.
