Every major star, director,producer should take a tax write of of 5 thousand to 500,000. Life shows us one thing, we wont be young again and some of us will spend what we have, become disabled and need a place to go.
Does this have anything to do with the workers trying to go union there last year?
If, somehow, there is a restructuring of these units, that will allow them not to be thrown on the dung heap, then the board should immediately be held accountable and shown the door – Don’t let it hit them on their collective asses on the way out – and a completely new, clean and transparent Board installed that will, at long last, be responsible for their actions.
Hollywood should be ashamed of itself for allowing this to happen. The level of corporate greed and star greed in the industry is unconscionable. What would it take for Steven Spielberg to write a check? What would it take for Katzenberg to write a check? I can’t imagine an industry as wealthy and self indulgent as this, in a town that promotes change, that fancies itself a champion of Barack Obama, would allow something like this to happen. It’s disgraceful. It’s sad. It’s shameful.
How can those of us not on the West coast tomorrow help?
Maybe a fundraiser would be better than a rally. I mean a protest is all well and good, viva free speech, but if the money’s not there, it’s not there, and has to be obtained somehow.
In the old days someone would rent or donate a theatre, and all the big stars, comics, and singers would do a benefit show. In fact, it was traditional in Vaudeville to reserve one Sunday night each month for benefit shows. Perhaps they could put together a special and sell it to NBC to make up the shortfall. They’ll air anything, they’re that desperate.
Why can’t they have a joint venture with a hospital that can help these people.
I understand the the facilty is not up to snuff and it would be better to have them in a state of the art center. But to turn away people who need acute care after they dedicated their life to the arts is wrong and cruel.
But why does responsibility always fall to someone else?
Isn’t it better to ask *everyone* to give what they can?
Donations made to MPTF now will be made in vain. The money will not go to long-term care. It will not save the residents who are being evicted or the hospital. Donations and tax-write-offs are a wonderful and meaningful gesture to the MPTF that takes care of its own, but a BOYCOTT of the MPTF that takes care of its own by evicting them may be more effective. If and only if the decision to close is reversed, then donate donate donate.
Support the MPTF healthcare workers at their rally for the residents, rain or shine!
I was at an informational meeting for residents at the hospital yesterday. As you can imagine there were a lot of upset people. In response to a question of, how much money is it going to take to save the hospital and long term care facility. Dr. Tillman, the Head administrator for the MPTF responded that money was not the only factor in this decision that he and the board had voted for! Dr. Tillman stated that the board also had a different vision for the future of the Fund and had decided that they would like to take the campus in a new direction! One of the things that they envision is state of the art, high density condos in place of the hospital! Really unbelievable. I think that it is becoming clearer and clearer that the reason that there has been no public out reach before this decision was made is that the Boards were never interested saving the hospital and long term care. They want to remake the campus into an old folks resort!
I am not a member of the movie biz, so this does not affect me in any way, other than as a human being. I also don’t know all the ins and outs of how the hospital works. However, it is my understanding from reading the comments here that people who check into the long term facility sign over their pensions in exchange for care at THIS facility. If this is true, since this is America, could there be a lawsuit for breach of contract? That could grab some attention while working out details to fix the problem over the long term (including getting a new Board that will carry forth the true vision of the Foundation).
Well, just got laid off today from my daytime health clinic job.
This was not quite the change I was looking for…
I think I figured this out: With this facility closing and Guantanamo Bay facility being ordered closed today (by the end of the year as well), could there be a nefarious swap going on? The patients will be transported to Cuba, which has great health care and the needed “world class facilities (and we have heard Mr. Katzenberg’s partner, Mr. Spielberg rhapsodize previously about Castro and Cuba).
And then the detainees at GITMO will be transported to Woodland Hills and stay in the bungalows there. MPTF can then charge the government for this and thus not deplete the Fund’s treasury. Call me crazy, but I think I’m on to something here. Someone get to Helen Thomas and make sure she brings this up at the next WH press briefing.
What has happened to the MPTF corp board membership?
Sources say its half the people from 2008. Half the members than last year…..HELLO…Those Did Not Agree With Young Hollywood….So we drop Of the Board….Shame on you Ms Kalif……and others
Who is no longer on the board and why…Lets hear from them.
How sick does someone have to be to no longer fit within the ever narrowing definition of “to sick” to be worthy of health care at Motion Picture? How feeble is too feeble to be worthy? How well is well enough to be provided the basic services promised in the charter? To say that “showbiz people” require (“demand” was implied) only “state of the art” facilities and equipment is not only insulting to the people who have paid into the fund for many years but both a petty and feeble attempt to pass the fiscal buck. I haven’t heard any of the residents complaining about the care they receive. In fact, quite the opposite is true. The people who were planning to live out their days in peaceful continuity in their rooms have nothing but praise for everyone on the staff and everything provided by the stellar health care professionals at Motion Picture. This decision was made without inviting the perspective of those whose opinions matter the most, the residents of Motion Picture and their families. Why is that? Because it was “uncomfortable”? Many things are uncomfortable. Because the financials of the fund took a hit in ’08 and are down by a third? Whose isn’t? My children cost me more than they make and are likely to keep doing so for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean that I am going to send them an eviction letter and turn their rooms into a duplex in 90 days.
The facility is there for members of the Motion Picture Industry and very few showed up to protest the action of this board. It was terrible to see elderly people wheeled out of their hospital rooms onto the sidewalk to fight for their rights and dignity. What is wrong with us? You have had people die from terror of the unknown-as in what is going to happen to me a month or two months from now. Now even the patients not being asked to vacate are fearful. What if they get sick? Will they be asked to leave? Imagine living under those circumstancea. So the next time there is a gathering out there show your support to keep the facility open by coming out.
Call your union reps about this issue? And your California State Assemblymen or State Senator. Let your voice be heard.

After contributing to the Motion Picture Industry Fund for nearly 50 years, this news makes me physically sick.
Are we now joining the ranks of Wall Street and the Banking/Real Estate people who are no better than common theives? This is BULLSHIT! Am ashamed that the those who have made so much from our Industry can allow this to happen….are you listening Mr. Katzenberg?
Call Mr. Geffen for help if you need to.

Shame on the LA Times now-RE: Motion Picture Hospital long term care closing
Shame on the MPTF and Jeffrey Katzenberg when they decided to close the MPH LTC unit that cares for the most vulnerable and most needing patients, but now shame on the LA Times too. They didn’t cover the protest rally held at the MPH yesterday at all in today’s (Friday) LA Times newspaper as opposed to the LA Daily Newspaper which had a front page picture and article. But the LA Times did a nice bang up job on the Oscar nominees on the front page and Calendar section. Maybe they were afraid they’d piss off or embarrass the elitess Hollywood fat cats and celebrities including the gazillionaire Jeffrey Katzenberg, head of the MPTF. What, are they afraid they might embarrass him enough not to get the latest interview with him about some upcoming deal or film. That is why the LA Times is hemorrhaging money, loosing readership and ready to go bankrupt. Screw them. It is for this reason I’m dropping my subscription to their paper and going with the Daily News. For the record, my Mother is living at the MPH in long term care. I now feel you are all complicit in signing my mother’s death sentence.

QUESTION 1.
To Dr. Tillman and the Board: How many elderly at Long Term Care have died since the announcement, as compared to the number of deaths in a week from all of last year?
If our understanding is true that 7 residents have died in an approximate 7 day period since they were all told they must leave their homes.
Question 2.
Are any of the elderly deaths linked to stress and fear from learning they must leave their homes?
Some sources understanding of the situation believe there to be a connection.
Question 3.
Does Tillman and the Board have any fear of legal ramifications if deaths are the result of their behavior?

What is the name of the company that conducted the study and gathered the facts for the MPTF’s decision to close the Long Term Care facility?
This is my understanding,
As the investigation will unfold, an inside source with information will expose the truth of David Tillman’s administration. The Board will find the irresponsible parties, and bring them to justice. Administration actually could be faced with convictions. Due to the understanding that there have been deaths since the poorly delivered news of the MPTF’s decision to close the Long Term Care (LTC) nursing facility. Innocent helpless residents have been subjected to fear and anguish, because of Tillman’s coverup. People inside know the truth and are coming forth secretly. Look to see the names of those being terminated by our present administration. This is going to be very bad for the immediate outlook of the MPTF. In the long run, the three Boards that make “ALL” the ultimate decisions will be more hands-on with the power they give to future CEO’s. The Board needs a watchdog to keep an eye on the highly paid administrators they employ. The most important action to be taken is to stop the eviction and let the residents calm down! Tillman with his immediate partners, created the ability to sell all of the people OUT! And by “ALL”, I mean “ALL”. This has been going on for years, and several people knew it. Get ready because here it comes. Let’s hope for the “BIG” guys sake, they step up and take immediate action. So far since the release of the closure, NO word from any of the Board members. If this doesn’t get defused within the next 5 days, the Board members names are soon to become front page news. Then lets see who can smile at the residents being told which van to get in when they are being taken from their homes.
As one caregiver said, “I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE THE DAY”!
Well it came. And for some inside employees, they say they KNOW why, and couldn’t believe it took this long for Tillmans’ administration to be exposed.
The boards should meet with the residents and families, and reach a solution to “Saving The Lives Of Our Own’.
It”s not too late.
