I'm told that Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger made the announcement just minutes ago at a town hall meeting for the company. Both Shmuger, Linde and Universal Studios prez/COO Ron Meyer were addressing about 2,000 employees in person and on closed ciruit TV at the Globe Theater at Universal Studios. Shmuger and Linde have been running the movie studio since 2006, so it's no surprise they have extended their deal from 2009 for another 4 years. What was unexpected is the studio's decision to have Shmuger share power equally with Linde, who previously was co-chairman to Shmuger's chairman. But the two guys get along great and have led Universal Pictures to what it claims have been two of the most profitable years in its history.

Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
…thanks in no small part to producers like Sean Daniel, Apatow, Howard. Uni seems to be the quiet studio that gets it done lately. No dramas in the boardroom, no bad reps on the street. Smart relationships with smart producers…
Seriously, what’s the difference other than more money for these two guys while GE is making cutbacks all over the company. Sounds like a great morale booster.
Shmuger is possibly the luckiest man in Hollywood…Ron Meyer didn’t want him at first, then picked him when all other candidates passed, and then this glum guy gets all the marbles, but is not gracious enough to be equals with Linde. I highly doubt Universal has had two record years, this company had some amazing rolls when Stacy was there and before with Jurassic Parks, etc.
