Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters is one of the first, and he wore it on the red carpet at Saturday night’s MusiCares benefit. So did musician Dave Stewart at the Grammies. Now its organizers are hoping Hollywood attendees and presenters wear it to the Oscars. It’s the “White Knot” in support of gay marriage. “The White Knot is the symbol for marriage equality. It takes two traditional symbols of marriage — white and tying the knot — and combines them in a simple way to show support for the right of gays and lesbians to marry. All loving couples deserve the same legal rights, benefits, and respect that civil marriage bestows,” say the organizers. Grohl, who is straight, told media Saturday night, “You know what that’s about? It’s ‘I believe in love and I believe in equality and I believe in marriage equality’.” The goal is to get White Knots on as many people as possible, keeping marriage equality in people’s (and the California Supreme Court’s) minds as the March 5th hearing gets underway determining Prop 8′s fate. Hypothetical situation: Let us say that somehow our country became the United Socialist States of America. If everyone who worked made around the same wage (typical marxist requirement), I can almost guarantee that all these pseudo-socialist actors would be crying to the high heavens. The actors and actresses benefit from living in a CAPITALIST country that celebrates their craft enthusiastically. I just can’t believe some of them, including Penn, who would give away half of their money to be redistributed to a cook and/or plumber. Their true colors would come out if the Government practiced what they preached.
As for the gay marriage issue, I don’t really care anymore. I am still against calling a homosexual, civil union “marriage.” That’s all. They can have every benefit married couples are afforded, but it cannot be defined as “marriage.” The problem opponents of gay marriage have is that the Pink Hand goes too far. They don’t want equal rights; they want MORE rights. I don’t think they (Pink Hand) think about the consequences of their actions. If anything, the divorce rate would sky-rocket. And I can almost see a situation where the community would force education officials to teach the little children about their lifestyle. Just because you’re confused and accept your sexual deviancy, doesn’t mean you have a right to force it on families who live traditionally.
And another thing, stop comparing your “movement” to the women/black civil rights movement. One main difference between those two struggles and the homosexuals’ complaints is that gays can hide their sexual orientation. Blacks and women cannot hide who they are.
Just wondering: why the pro-Prop 8 folks express so much violence in their comments and their screen names? What perversion of “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” written at a time when donkeys were more treasured than wives, people believed men’s “seed” carried the entire human essence, and the earth was both flat & at the center of the universe has gotten us to the threatening comments posted by folks like “AllFagsAndLesbosMustHang”
