Today, I received this email about my news that Christina Wayne left AMC (for Starz?). There has been considerable speculation among DHD's comments about how much Wayne contributed to the shepherding of Mad Men. Now creator and showrunner Matthew Weiner has asked me to post this from him:
Nikki, I just wanted to set the record straight, since anonymous posters seem to be speaking for me on your site. It's very important to me that people know how I really feel, and I would appreciate you getting this out there. I've always had a wonderful creative and personal relationship with Christina Wayne. She is a person of great character who has incredible intelligence and taste. I feel as I know the people at AMC do, that her vision and insight will be missed and wish her the best in her future endeavors. Thanks, Matt Weiner

If you want to know how a writer feels about his producer, the last person you ask is the writer. But his remarks are appreciated.
That read like a canned PR statement. Just put “Ben Silverman” in for Christina Wayne and I think we’ve seen the future.
Wow, heartfelt. You can tell this guy is one of the best writers on TV.
When you wish someone the best in Hollywood, you…well, y’all know the drill…
As a writer/producer I have had the good fortune to work closely with Christina Wayne on two projects, including AMC’s Emmy-winning mini-series BROKEN TRAIL. The première set ratings records which actually made the national news.
BROKEN TRAIL was Christina’s project from start to finish.
The star and executive producer of BROKEN TRAIL,
Robert Duvall, who doesn’t suffer fools gladly, and certainly would never praise them, singled Christina out for appreciation in his Emmy acceptance speech.
I have always found Christina to be intelligent and creative.
Her ideas have been unerringly valuable and her manner
has been unfailingly personable.
She is also a talented and accomplished writer-director
(TART with Melanie Griffith, Brad Renfro and Dominique Swain), and I experienced her talent as a writer, a few years ago, when she wrote a project for David Gerber and me.
Whatever Chrstina’s current plans are, her new colleagues will find themselves fortunate to be working with her.
