Bizarrely, it also involves Barry Levinson and Lucille Ball. He was on Kimmel last night:

He reinvented history. He begged Alan Carr to let him do that number, rather than just be part of the “Young Hollywood” ensemble. He wanted to show his singing and dancing “talents.” He’s also wrong about Lucy. She was a presenter with Bob Hope (not receiving a lifetime award as Lowe said), and she died about a month after the show, not 10 days (as he said).

Allan Carr gave the academy EXACTLY what they asked for; a larger share of the viewing audience. The buzz it created outweighed everything else.He also was the one who changed the verbage of ” And the winner is” to “and the Oscar goes to” noting everyone nominated is a winner.
the previous comment is correct..Lowe wanted to be in that position and has padded his involvement to get the spot…Overall the show was a success…Snow White and the opening number was the ONLY thing that critics ; and obviously an BITTER LOWE remember.

Chip…So you’re basically saying he’s a liar. If that’s so, I wonder if he’s lying about his former nanny’s lawsuit for sexual harassment?

Go to YouTube and call up the Rob Lowe/Snow White number. As you are watching it, keep in mind what Nikki wrote on her live blog of the Oscar telecast, about this year’s witty opening number:
Alan Carr’s showstopper of Snow White and Rob Lowe (remember how our jaws went slack?) is starting to look like a masterpiece in comparison.
That’s a quote, folks.

Man what a Putz Lowe is.
His demeanor during his version of his Lucille Ball encounter seemed pretty disrespectful of a truly great woman.
I can’t fathom how he could talk about her like that given the womans body of work.
What an asshat.

Chip’s facts check out, at least about when she died. It was about a month later. Check the broadcast date of those Academy Awards with her date of death.
