We’ll see if the new administration has a sense of humor when that Queen Of Mean (and that’s a compliment), Wanda Sykes, is going to be mocking Barack Obama. That’s the tradition at the White House Correspondents Association annual media-politics-showbiz schmoozefest in Washington DC where Sykes will be performing May 9th. “The first thing I did when they asked me to do this gig — I made sure my taxes were paid,” quipped Sykes (unlike a lot of Democrats). The openly gay co-star of CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine who’s also an outspoken Democrat and Obama supporter (and BFF of Jane Fonda) was chosen by the Association “because of her fresh style and engaging stage presence”. I just hope C-SPAN has a 7-second delay button.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

“We’ll see if the new administration has a sense of humor.”
Barack did that dinner with McCain last year while McCain had his attack dog with lipstick calling him a terrorist. And at his very first press conference Obama called himself a “mutt.”
So I think it’s safe to say the administration has a sense of humor. The real question here is does Sykes have a sense of class?
The last administration LOVED humor because we had a clown for president and the administration was a joke.
Craig Ferguson killed in that room last year … she’s a good choice to keep that tradition going.
This is going to be awesome.
Ohh, she’s gonna roast Obama good. I like her. Very sharp comedianne.
if Disney and MTV sends their stars again to the dinner, boy are they’re gonna get a roastin’ from Wanda…
Good choice, but it’s going to be tough to beat Colbert. Remember this?

I hope Wanda is vicious beyond belief!
We don’t need milquetoast over the hill comics, such as the booking of Rich Little a couple of years ago!

Why is that in question? What has Wanda said or done to make you wonder if she would have a sense of class?
And why is Nikki calling her the queen of mean? Wanda is a very direct, honest and funny comedian. I’ve never seen her once be mean or lack class? Where are these expectations coming from?
Nikki, do your sensibilities make you a possible member of the Parents Television Council or FCC? I’m psyched for Sykes!
Wanda is capital-F funny and irreverent, with a great take on social and political commentary (reference her quip in your post).
If C-SPAN uses a 7-second delay button…. well, all I can say is, thanks for youtube, google video, et al.
“The last administration LOVED humor because we had a clown for president and the administration was a joke.”
If the last one was a joke, this one is the punchline! Yep, by your logic they’ll just love her. Wanda is a very talented comedienne. She’ll do the job justice!
Was Margaret Cho not available?
I hope she has a good sense of humor, since some comics have a hard time making fun of Obama.
Did you hear the one about Obama? He isn’t completely perfect in every way.
Hilarious that everyone thinks she’ll mock The One and Democrats. She’ll just go after Republicans and Bush; they simply can’t let it all go.
Oh, and she’s not funny, either.
Obama already is a pretty big joke himself.
