The rally is 11AM to 2PM at Fox Studios at 10201 Pico Blvd. (Unvalidated free parking across the street at Rancho Park.) “Peter Chernin, CEO of Fox, has stated that there will be no reruns on Fox network and all programs will go directly to streaming on the Internet, eliminating our residuals and contributions to health coverage and pensions,” the protest organizers, who are SAG activists but not members of SAG leadership. “We must express our concern at this attack on our ability to earn a living and make it clear that we intend to vote NO on the contract.”

Let’s see if ther’s any fire in the belly. I sure do hope so. You know what these AMPTP people would do, faced with a united SAG and, perhaps, IATSE?
They’d fold like an origami dragon
if recent history is any indicator, the actors wil screw this up as well. United SAG is a oxymoron
One more reason to fight for NewMedia fair compensation and online usage residuals. I’m waiting for my ballot to authorize the strike.
I’d like to know more about this protest march. Who’s organizing, what the unified approach will be, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: SAG’s Moron-Majority is NOT organizing this rally. So, come one… come all! This affects everyone in Hollywood. The AMPTP wants to do-away with residuals! Not just residuals for actors, but residuals for everyone that works on AMPTP productions who currently receive them…. So, get there by 11:00am and show how important residuals are to you!
Evil will always Triumph because Good is Dumb!!!
Gee… couldn’t see that coming.
Let’s just sign the contract for the sake of our country and receding economy because let’s face it, nothing’s more patriotic than fucking yourself.
To all the stars like George Clooney and Tom Hanks, thank you for sharing your two cents. I’m sure it made quite a dent in the millions you’ve made as… PRODUCERS!
Please remove yourself to your Italian villas and stay there til the actors finish this job. Our livelihood (and now health insurance) kind of depends on it.
Many Background and Day-Players will join this rally. This is our future. This is our daily bread. This is our Health and Pension. This is life line of grassroots.
11AM? By then everyone should be comfortably in their offices, far removed from your nonsense. You should be out there at 8AM, when you’ll have your largest audience. I’ll bet you’ve also failed to alert the media. No wonder you guys are f’d.
Reason no. 52183 why unions need to exist in Hollywood. Whatever union you belong to, please show up at this rally. Solidarity is now more important than ever.
Sat down with someone who runs a famous post house for television this morning and he expressed something that has been plaguing me since the beginning of this…how could SAG, which expertly inserted itself into TV over the last 20 years, lose the ENTIRE BUSINESS in one negotiation cycle? He has not seen one new pilot go to SAG. It’s all entirely AFTRA. ALL OF IT. Is anyone getting this?
And yet not one of our leadership wants to address this question…except with the utterly lame idea that SAG and AFTRA should merge. As if any other guild wants to be associated with our sterling record of negotiation savvy and membership unity.
And yet blah blah blah about rallies and how awful MF is and how awful U4S is and how awful the AMPTP is…
God, we’ve blown it.
Let’s call for Chernin to resign!!! Who’s with me??
Im a member of a Union and I wouldnt show up to support you twits if my life depended on it. Thanks to you morons, I haven’t worked for over 6 months. So screw you, and screw your residuals. Any support you had from me (and almost everyone else that I know) was lost months ago.
All the unions and guilds have to get together to target a specific studio each week, and shut them down. Let them know how desperate the times are, and how desperate you are to have a decent wage and health package.
Take Fox one week. Sony the next. But you need ALL the guilds. One cannot do it alone.
In the not too distant future it will be…”George who?” and “Tom who?” and when their old residuals run out and their DVD’s are in the $1 bin and all their old films are streaming on new video streams for free, they’ll turn to the Union they once stabbed in the back and say, “What happened?!”
It’s pretty clear to me that all the “Vitriolic Nay Sayers,” are getting their advice from Rush Limbaugh; and like the rest of that movement, want SAG, Organized Labor and The Country; to fail. Hope you choke on your own Poison.
Yo brokeasajoke,
You really should direct that anger where it’s deserved. The AMPTP. They are the ones responsible for this de-facto lockout Hollywood finds itself in, not the SCREEN ACTORS GUILD! Set your alarm clock and WAKE UP to reality! Remember their name… the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Then, once you get your sad-sap-broke-ass out of bed, you might want to contribute to the effort to draw attention to the real problem, by joining us at the FOX rally Wednesday morning and express your anger to it’s source. Or perhaps you could turn over and go back to sleep, only to dream of better days. Sweet Dreams!
Rush Limbaugh? What the Fuck? What the fuck does Rush Limbaugh have to do with this? As a general rule, I tend to stay away from Union protests… I just pay my dues, send in my ballot, and steer clear of political discussion. But if I was anywhere near LA, you can bet your ass I’d be out there in front of Fox Studios tomorrow. I moved away from Southern California years ago, and my residual checks have dwindled down to a pathetic trickle. As each day goes by, I think I need to move to Los Angeles… get back into the system… start building my career all over again, instead of dying on the vine here in a “Right to work” state. This Fox fiasco could spell the end for this industry. Where is the incentive in working your ass off, looking for the next gig that will pay you today, and add a trickle to your income stream for the rest of your life, if that residual trickle is cut off? How many of us can afford to live on a few days of work each month, and continue to market oursleves, searching for the next couple of days work?
You know… the heirs of dead playwrites still get a residual check every time I perform one of their works on stage in community theater. I’m working for free… keeping my craft alive… and some dead guys kid gets a check every time I put a paying patron into a seat in the audience? Now I’m going to be seen in perpetuity on the internet… advertisers will pay to put my work on the web… producers will collect every time my work is viewed… yet I will never again receive a dime in my lifetime?
Screw That!
Mark
Despite my criticism of MF for not acting when they had the chance – their stance has been clear from day one regarding this contract – it is unsignable.
The irony of all this time passing, all these many months, as the “moderates” within SAG did everything they could to sabotage MF – the so-called “hard-liners” – what is beginning to become obvious to all but the most in-denial members of SAG – such as Richard Masur and all his acolytes at USAN/NY/RBD/UFS and the list of “stars” who just completely screwed the pooch by not supporting the membership, which the membership will NEVER forget, by he way – is the AMPTP is dead serious about wiping out as much of their financial obligations to SAG (and all the other creative unions, including IATSE) as possible going into new media.
Yet, SAG, instead of focusing on that threat, has been totally incapacitated by the internecine, decades-long feud between “moderates” and “hard-liners” over “merger.”
I swear to god – if I hear that damn word one more time, I’m going to jump off the freaking roof.
Here we are, facing the biggest threat to the middle-class actor in the history of the guild, and we’ve got complete partisans trying to use the whole thing as an excuse to push their same old, let’s beat the dead horse yet again issue – merger.
It is INEXCUSABLE behavior, and the union is nowhere NEAR out of the woods as a result of it.
The obvious need for unity and solidarity to fight off the REAL adversary – this contract and the AMPTP, has been squandered by individual personalities with anything BUT the best interests of the membership in mind, but rather their
The result has been critical inaction, and the new reality that people OUTSIDE the leadership, such as Scott Wilson, have brought more pressure to bear on the common threat “moderates” and “hard-liners” both face – THE AMPTP!
There has been miserable communication with the membership, we now are in the completely untenable situation where our own damn President can’t even communicate with us – there has been inexcusable partisan warfare, which has wasted huge amounts of valuable time, and now, here we are – SAG middle-class actors FINALLY waking up to the reality brought to you by people like Scott Wilson who has had to go totally outside the union to get the damn point across – that this is a serious threat, and that if SAG members DON’T come together – hopefully with IATSE members, and whatever support we can get from the other creative unions who have laid down for this deal – we will have NO ONE to blame but ourselves.
How much more information about the networks and studios forays into new media, this transition that, despite the talk of a lack of “monetization” IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW – do SAG members new to hear, before they finally understand WE NEED TO ACT.
Either we protect ourselves from the AMPTP, from the ineffectiveness of our own union, or we get locked into a contract that will wipe us out.
It is STILL our choice.
Guess my reference to Rush Limbaugh was too much of a stretch for “Mark In Florida,” but it was intended for all the ‘hate mailers,’ that are trying to get us to cave into the demands of everyone in the Industry, instead of standing up as we are, as we have been to fight off an organized effort to “kill the union.” David White, even made that statement to m, (“they want to kill the union.) after three days of having his ass handed to him by the AMPTP. Sorry, Mark In Florida, but if you’d been around for the last couple of years, you would see and hear the movement of a political party, corporate powers and enemies within our own union; that would have us give in, surrender, roll over, however you want to put it; and realize that the only strength we have now; is the numbers we can put out on the street in a protest, and the courage to say “No,” to a deal that would indeed; “Kill Us.” See the rest of you on Wednesday, 11 to 2, at Fox. And I agree; 8 A.M., might have been more effective. Maybe next time.
U4S–
You provide neither Unity nor Strength.
Now that the negotiations are in shambles — with your own people driving — where the hell are you? Where are the public pronouncements? Where’s this new burst of leadership you promised to bring?
Has anyone also stopped to think that Fox is still considered cable?!?! These rats have been reaping the benefits of these huge shows for years! They’re not part of the big 3!!! It’s absolutely disgusting that they have the nerve…. but it figures. No one wants to stand up for themselves anymore. We’re all just gonna sit by and watch our livelyhood go down the drain. Enjoy your “reality tv”… cause in the next couple of years that will be the majority of what’s on tv. It’s easy to pay next to nothing to a bunch of idiots who just want to see themselves on the boob tube. Good times. : (
My “?reruns?” are already running on the internet with advertising all around them and not a penny to me or any of the other performers, let alone any of the directors and writers…But, “someone” is making a nice buck!
It’s New World Order brought to you courtesy of the the AMPTP…
Be there, or starve. It time to get up, and stand up for your rights!
See you tomorrow 11 am.
WE NEED TO MERGE, IT’S THE ONLY WAY
