I’ve already posted my scoop that Mickey Rourke will play the Russian villain in Iron Man 2 in a Marvel Studios deal that started out lowball and went up a lot. Now I’m told that Emily Blunt won’t be in the sequel and Black Widow will now be played by Scarlett Johannson. (Interesting because Scarlett actually screen-tested for the role and didn’t get it.) But I hear that, unlike Mickey’s money, the deal for her is “just the opposite, a terrible deal made by CAA,” one of my insiders says. “It’s as bad as any deal that I’ve heard. It’s lowball money. And it ties her to countless movies, including that ensemble The Avengers, which is what makes this brutal for a lot of actors.” As for Blunt, I’m told she fell out not by choice but only because Fox exercised an option that the studio had from The Devil Wears Prada to make her do the upcoming film starring Jack Black, Gullivers Travels.

I normally don’t respond to commentators. But with Emily/Ella I can’t resist. It was Scarlett’s ass shot that got Lost in Translation into contention and Sofia her Oscar. Everyone heard about it, and with Bill Murray the movie gathered wings to Oscar heaven.
As for being in the biz. We just write about it.
As for Emily she has that static look that could be say like Joan Crawford used in very interesting ways but let’s look at her numbers.
According to by the numbers she’s been around for five years and bought in 250 million. But look at her movie choices. The only notable is Charlie Wilson’s war.
As for her agents, hell if I was an up and coming actress I would sign a tag along deal just to keep the money coming. Besides according to the numbers she has the wolfman and if they don’t kill off her character that’s good for at least eight films.
All you ScarJo haters need to focus on the REAL villian of Irom Man- Fox for screwing Emily Blunt out of the role! And also GOOP!!!
Scarlett gets lowball money? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. What? Oh…I feel SO sorry for her and especially in this economy. So sad. Why doesn’t EVERYONE look at all the zillions of other actresses who would die to get this role.
Who cares, Scarlett Johannson is hot as hell and I don’t care if she ruins the whole movie. I will watch it 10 times just to see her. Screw all you homos.
Michael Keaton is a very good actor–but he was miscast in the first BATMAN trilogy. Sorry.

Scarlet Johansson being cast in IM-2 was a mistake. She tested for the role before, but lost to Emily Blunt. With the departure of Ms.Blunt, enter Ms.Johansson. I’ve read other posts from comic and movie sites and they almost all univerally pan Johansson. I couldn’t agree more. As one of those comic book nerds and a film buff, I couldn’t be more disappointed in Johansson’s role in the IM franchise. I’ve seen her previous films and I haven’t been impressed with her acting. Why she is touted as a great actress is beyond me. She’s way too overated. The IM fans are, myself included, not pleased with her in the film. Total miscasting, but it’s too late now the damage has been done. They’re already started filming and the rest is going to be history as they say.

Good point you brought up. People thought the casting choice was blasphemy. He was Mr. Mom and Beetlejuice!
Another casting choice that had people confused; Heath Ledger as the Joker. Even though he was an Oscar nominated actor, people thought the choice was strange and wanted more obvious choices (Johnny Depp for example). And we all know how much they proved the general public/fans wrong.
I think we should all keep an open mind.
When Emily Blunt became unavailable Marvel should have begged Saffron Burrows to be the Widow. SJ is a stiff, good enough for Woody Allen movies but not good enough for Iron Man.
Iron man 2 may be about more stark… a therfore more scarlet.

Natasha Romanova is my absolute FAVORITE comic book character EVER. I even look like her, and I speak Russian, guns, martial arts, you name it. I would die to play her, and to see someone as talentless and imperfect casted for this role enrages me AND breaks my heart. Emily Blunt would be perfect, PERIOD. She even looks like Romanova! SJ, is to round and chubby to play her and the ONLY resemblance she has to Romanova is her big boobs. F**k you Fox for pulling Blunt out of this role! You just ruined what could have been an amazing role. AUGHH!
All of you that are worried about Scarlet Johansen not being right for this part need to get a life and stop worrying about little things like that. So what if it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. Its just a movie and there are plenty of other good movies out there.

SJ was the most annoying part in IM2 and on the DVD (why she was interviewed so much in the featurettes is beyond me, she hardly can string 3 sentences together) Her acting abilities are next to nothing. Give me RDJ, Rockwell, Gwyneth, Jeff B., Mickey R., Sam L Jackson and Shandling any time! Please no shallow actors for IM3…..
