There was a bad batch of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs released without the special features advertised on the box. Missing are “The Making Of” featurette and the “Deleted Scenes” among other promised content. Needless to say, a lot of buyers are complaining to Amazon about it. The web seller has added this note:
DVD Alert: We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs. Fox has set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for those consumers who may have purchased a version that does not contain special features. Upon calling the hotline, these consumers will be able to have their disc replaced for one containing special features. Fox regrets any inconvenience this has caused.

That’s not the only thing FOX screwed up.
The following is not an April Fools Joke!
The internet is going crazy about a DVD quality work print of “Wolverine” being leaked online yesterday. Many many people have seen it, the verdict is not very good.
I know you don’t do geek, so I figured I’d let you know. It’s pretty crazy for a big Summer to be leaked online in DVD quality a FULL month before it’s release.
Warners may not have been able to give this film a proper platform launch and the solid Oscar campaign it deserved but they certainly wouldn’t have f*cked up the DVD release so badly.
…just saying is all.
Hardly Fox’s worse screw-up of the day. Wolverine, anyone?!
this is also a great way to spike sales by making the general population aware that that overrated POS is now out on DVD…
Phone number doesnt work… of course. Another genious company who couldnt take the time to “double check” their work and now nobody wants to take responsibility.
The same thing happened with Live Free or Die Hard DVDs also from Fox. Wasn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last.
That doesn’t sound like a “bad batch”, that sounds like bad packaging. A DVD can’t magically have stuff missing, if anything is missing it’s because it was authored that way. If they had said the content was CORRUPTED, then it’s a bad batch.
Who cares? So long as the frakin’ dvd was mastered and duplicated properly so there aren’t any digital hits or other glaring technical issues, then Fox did its job. Most of the time the “bonus” material is worthless filler. There is a reason that the deleted scenes were deleted. Who wants to hear some pretentious director stroke themselves or be filated by kiss ass actors and other stooges. This is a non story.
I just called the phone number. After about 10 rings, the line disconnected. This is ridiculous! All a result of Fox’s supposed new policy of stripping down the rental DVDs to remove the special features, forcing people to buy them instead. And look what happens to those of us who do?
Amazon may be trying to divert disgruntled consumers to Fox, but if you have a problem with the DVD, just send it back to Amazon. They will feel obligated to keep their customers happy, as they sent you an incomplete product.
And don’t use your own dime for shipment–just use the parcel box it came in and mark “Return to Sender” on it and dump it in the nearest postbox. It will get to Amazon. I’ve done it a dozen times and no problems. Amazon gives the postal system a lot of business and so they have at least a tacit understanding, but this also works with regular parcels/mail.
Inexcusable…and who will be fired ? No one !
Seems the geniuses at 2121 Ave of the Stars put the stripped down rental rip off disc in the consumer up-charge version packaging. Serves them right for trying to force people to buy the movie rather than rent it to see the crappy extras. Any hope of incremental revenue they were trying to get is now shot when they have to replace and fulfill screwed consumer product. Way to go!
Fox is canceling dvd extra’s for their rentals. They probably mixed something up along the way and sent the dvd’s meant to be rented to retail stores.
So a batch of the rentals got shipped to the retail sales outlets. Ha ha ha! Serves them right. With Warner’s really stupid decision to remove Special Features from the rental DVDs, they’re hoping to get more buyers for the retail version (which does include extras). Way to go WB. Let’s just piss off the one audience (renters) who actually are paying by short-changing them from the full product. Somewhere, some renters are getting all the special features. They’re just not telling anybody about it.
I knew this would happened when they announced they would strip the special features off from the “rental” version discs…to…wait for it…”cut cost.”
hahahaahaahahahhhahahaa!!!
I knew they would screw up! saw it coming a million miles away! so dumb, Fox, so freaking dumb. try to be cheap, then end up paying for it. seriously, what kind of thinking went into this “cost-cutting?” let’s see, instead of burning one master copy, now they have to burn two separate batches of discs, and print different covers. just how much are they saving to do a rental barebone and a retail version? stupid. now it waste more of their money to ship out the right discs to consumers, bad for the environment too for those plastic disc and shipping cost. idiots.
I hope someone got fired for this fuck up. What a bunch of tools they have over at Fox Film.
To anyone with one of the feature-free discs, going to slumdogdvd.orderassistance.com will take care of it.
I called 888-223-4FOX on Friday morning and got an automated message that gave me the website slumdogdvd.orderassistance.com or I could stay on the line for a rep. I did the website option & answered a few simple questions. I quickly got a response E-mail from Fox, followed by another E-mail with a UPS tracking number. Monday morning, it showed up Overnight UPS with a postage included return envelope for the original DVD. They told me to keep the case. Props to Fox, this was a piece of cake.
Is this number legit? i want the special features but my dad keeps saying it’s just a scam… Back up?
I called the number and within 5 minutes issue resolved. Got a email verification and expect the new movie in a few days.
