Remember that big announcement about a new premium cable channel starting up by Viacom, Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate? Well, on Wednesday, Viacom prez/COO Philippe Dauman said at the McGraw-Hill Media Summit that "Epix" was on track for an October launch. According to Broadcasting & Cable, when asked whether Viacom was making contingency plans in case its partners Lionsgate and MGM get bought, he responded that programming would continue regardless of who owns them. 'There's always going to be mergers and acquisitions talk," the media mogul said. "We know we're going to be around."

Sweet. I’m excited. Bring it on.
I don’t know their specific plans, but this new channel can go two ways…
1. They’ll repeat the same bad movies ad nauseaum, because all the good movies are taken, and even they get repeated to the point where folks don’t want to see them again.
2. They’ll start out with some daring original programming, realize there are just too many channels to compete with, cancel the shows, and just run repeats of the movies from option #1, and cheap reality shows starring people with popular Twitter accounts.
I know I’m being cynical, but I just can’t help it.
I bet the dimwits at SighFigh are bopping themselves on the forehead, V8-style, saying, “Epix! Why didn’t we think of that?!”
Will someone please please PLEASE explain to me how a premium cable service with zero subscribers and not even ONE carriage deal intends to launch in six months?
wow, Viacom. Aren’t they the idiots behind TVLand I can see it now, beating people over the head with promos. Cutting off the end of the movie credits and going right into the next one.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
